Abstract

This research is aimed at whether using scramble cards improves the students’ vocabulary. It is also aimed at the enrichment of the students’ achievement in teaching learning process using scramble cards. The materials used in this research were scramble cards. Some steps in this research start from identifying the problems, planning the action, implementing the action, observing or monitoring the action, reflecting the result of the observation, and research findings. The research was conducted in four meetings. A meeting for pre-test, 2 meetings for treatments and a meeting for post-test. The sample of this research was 35 first-year students of a polytechnic in Indonesia. The technique in collecting the data was quantitative method. In the quantitative method, the researcher used tests to examine the students’ achievement. The test consisted of the pre-test and post-test. The technique to analyze the test result was by comparing the mean score of pre-test and post-test. Besides that, this research also used descriptive statistics and the t-test of non-independent. The research result shows that scramble card can enhance the students’ vocabulary mastery, it can be seen from the aspect of the vocabulary mastery, such as the students could understand, grasp, remember, pronounce, write about 80 until 90 % of the words correctly and use the words in some sentences appropriately. Second, the improvement also can be seen from the pre-test and post-test of the students’ score. The mean score of the pre-test improves from 5.67 to 8.85 in post-test. Then, the scores of the pre-test and post-test show that there is also an improvement in students who achieve the minimum standard score, that is 60. They are from 3.2% to 100% of students. As the conclusion of this research that the use of scramble cards improves students’ vocabulary mastery.Keywords: vocabulary, scramble card, classroom action-research, improvement

Abstract

The research entitled Implementation of Flipped Classroom in English learning at APMD Yogyakarta aims to help students understand English courses in the first semester of students. Flipped Classroom is one of the teaching methods where students get learning materials along with exercises and assignments (individual or group) in the form of videos and access them online through Google Classroom, to be done outside the classroom to be discussed during course hours. So, during class, what the teacher does is to review the material, discuss assignments or exercises, and answer questions from students who still don't understand the material given. Meanwhile, students who come to class are expected to have gained an understanding of the material presented. This method is tried to be applied to overcome the time constraints given for this course, which is only 1x a week for 2 hours of lectures (@ 45 minutes). It is hoped that by implementing this method, student will enhance their English skill and can easily understand the material presented marked by increasing students’ score.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the students’ writing skill through Teacher Feedback strategy at First Semester Students of English Letters Department UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta in 2024-2025. The subjects of this research were 27 students of A class.  This research used a cycle of Classroom Action Research, and it consisted of five meetings. The CAR cycle contents are Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. This research used two types of data, and they were qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were obtained through observations during the teaching learning activities. Moreover, the quantitative data were the scores of the students’ writing recount text before the implementation of the Feedback (pre-test) and after the implementation of the Feedback (post-test). The students’ pre-test scores showed that the total was 1250. In this degree, the mean that the researcher gained in students’ pre-test score was 46.30. Furthermore, the students’ post-test scores showed the total was 2062. In this degree, the mean that the researcher gained in students’ post-test was 76.37. It can be seen that there was an improvement on students’ mean scores. Most of the students’ scores were increased from the pre-test and the post-test scores. It was from 29.63% (8 students) who passed the minimum score to 81.48% (22 students) of the 27 students. It can be seen that there was a significant improvement from the percentage before and after treatments. In short, applying Teacher Feedback strategy in teaching learning process can significantly improve the writing skills of the students.
