Abstract

Spiritual care is very important particularly for patients who are experiencing critical conditions. Although the priority of critical care is to maintain the function of the organ systems and to improve the patient's health condition, the patient's spiritual care should not be ignored. This study aimed to identify spiritual care practice among ICU Nurses at public hospitals in rural areas. This survey study used the NSCTS (Nursing Spiritual Therapeutics Scale) questionnaires to identify spiritual care in the ICU wards. This study involved 39 ICU nurses who work in the three public hospitals of Pekalongan Regency, Central Java Indonesia (Kajen Hospital, Kraton Hospital, and Bendan Hospital). Data were analyzed by using Microsoft excel. The result of this study revealed that the average spiritual care among ICU nurses is 3.79. In the context of the spiritual care item question, the highest mean score was "Offered to pray with a patient," whereas the lowest was "Documented spiritual care you provided in a patient chart." Despite the study limitation, this study encourages the ICU nurses to record the spiritual nursing care into nursing care sheets.

Abstract

Background: Pre-hospital emergency medical services (EMS) personnel are responsible for providing intervention outside of the hospital setting. Consequently, the pre-hospital emergency personnel demand high capability of the personnel to perform emergency aid at the scene and during transport to the hospital. Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore emergency skills competence among pre-hospital emergency personnel in the area on the north coast of Java. Method: This study used the Essential Knowledge and Skills Questionnaire (EKSQ) as the instrument. There was 42 pre-hospital emergency personnel participated in this study. Results: This study revealed that most pre-hospital emergency personnel are nurses (93%). Most respondents reported not having sufficient competency in resuscitation (2,78 of 5 points) and giving medication (2,81 of 5 points). Age and experience were significantly correlated with pre-hospital emergency personnel's competence. Conclusion: This study concluded that there was a lack of competence in resuscitation. Hence, continuous professional-development courses are necessary to maintain pre-hospital emergency personnel's professional proficiency.

Abstract

Psychosocial factors supporting patient treatment adherence significantly determine the success rate of tuberculosis (TB) management, in addition to the utilization of effective Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs (ATDs). In this context, self-resilience and social support are identified as two pivotal determinants. This study aimed to map the correlation between social support and resilience among TB patients, while exploring its implications for the optimization of pharmaceutical care. Utilizing an analytical survey with a cross-sectional study design, this research involved 51 patient families within the working area of the Doro I Public Health Center in Pekalongan Regency, recruited via a total sampling technique. Quantitative data were collected using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), followed by analysis using the Chi-square test. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant relationship between social support and patient resilience ($p = 0.004$). This finding indicates that enhancing social support can strengthen patient resilience, which in turn promotes the effectiveness of ATD therapy. Consequently, the integration of counseling, education, and family empowerment in treatment supervision is essential to be adopted into standard pharmaceutical care.

Abstract

Cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death from cardiovascular disease and requires immediate management through high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to improve patient survival. Primary healthcare workers at community health centers play a crucial role as frontline providers in delivering the initial response to cardiac arrest cases. However, healthcare workers' knowledge and preparedness regarding CPR algorithms may decline over time without regular training and refresher programs. This community service program aimed to improve healthcare workers' knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation through a health education intervention at Tondano Community Health Center. The program employed a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 31 healthcare workers. The intervention consisted of a pretest, interactive lectures, CPR demonstrations based on the 2020 American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines, group discussions, and a posttest evaluation. Data were analyzed descriptively, followed by the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed that the mean knowledge score increased from 39.35 ± 18.28 before the intervention to 54.84 ± 19.19 after the intervention, representing a mean improvement of 15.48 points. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.001). Health education was effective in improving healthcare workers' knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Therefore, similar educational programs should be conducted regularly as part of continuing professional development to strengthen the emergency response competencies of healthcare workers in primary healthcare facilities.
