Abstract

Developing lesson plans which significantly influence the successful teaching learning process is not an easy thing for some teachers in three different school levels. It is because there are some influential aspects which should be considered in developing it. Thus, this research was conducted to investigate the aspects taken in developing lesson plan as well as to investigate whether there is any difference between the lesson plans developed for three different school levels. It employed qualitative method with descriptive design towards teacher of elementary school, junior high school, and senior high school. The data were obtained through document analysis and interview as the confirmation. There were 6 lesson plans gathered from 3 English teachers of different school levels. This research was analyzed using theories adapted from Reiser and Dick (1996) and Brown (2001). The research revealed that generally the aspects consisted in most of lesson plans analyzed were likely consistent with the theories proposed except in terms of coherence in using specific verbs stated in objectives and activities. In addition, it was revealed that there were no any significant differences between lesson plans developed for Elementary School, Junior High School, and Senior High School except in terms of Bloom’s ability level (1965) stated in objectives. Thus, further research might investigate how teachers can use more coherent specific verbs stated in objectives and activities to make the better lesson plans and teaching learning process.

Abstract

Community Service or Pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PkM) is one of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education (teaching, research, and community service) must be fulfilled by lecturers. Contributing to the surrounding community is one of the forms of responsibility that should be carried out. This Community Service program is the follow- up of the previous one. English Department of the Faculty of Humanities Widyatama University has developed a village website, given training to students and teachers for making and writing website content for Desa Karyawangi as the partner of this community service last year. The second batch of this community service is maintaining web content and adding translation features to the website so that people from different language users are able to gain information displayed in the website. Desa Karyawagi, located in Kecamatan Parongpong Kabupaten Bandung Barat is the partner of this community service. Lack of knowledge and skill of using digital media and English mastery are the problems Desa Karyawangi has. Therefore, it is urgent to give them assistance in promoting tourism and disseminating information. This research employs descriptive qualitative research. Data collection is done by distributing online questionnaires, conducting interviews towards user’s experience. This community service has enabled the community of Desa Karyawangi to be more aware of the importance of being technology savvy. The results of the research show that 1) the villagers are aware of the importance of using websites for spreading and gaining information and 2) Translation features added to the website gives a positive effect to the tourism and economy aspects.

Abstract

Communicating through social media requires proper communicative strategies to avoid any social conflict and disharmony that might happen for the improper strategies applied. Those related to politeness and impoliteness in utterance turn to be generic as in speech in the YouTube comments. This research proposes an analysis of impoliteness strategies as firstly proposed by Culpeper (2005). The proposed impoliteness strategies are classified into five categories; Bald on record, Positive, Negative, Sarcasm, and Withhold Impoliteness. This research applied a descriptive qualitative method in presenting analysis based on data collected from YouTube comments sourced from KOMPAS TV. The data from 100 comments containing impoliteness strategies on that video indicated that there were four categories of impoliteness in Culpeper (2005). The four categories of impoliteness identified include: 1)bald on record; 2) positive; 3) negative; and 4) sarcasm/mock. Based on the analysis, it was revealed that the majority or 44% of comments indicated the negative impoliteness category. The positive impoliteness and bold on record were found in the same percentage, 19% throughout the comments. While the other 18% of comments showed impoliteness in the form of sarcasm/mock. The impoliteness strategies were potential to appear in a public room such as online comments as responses to controversial contents that trigger the viewers' or reader's negative attitudes. Apart from that, some factors such as age, gender, and educational background might influence the use of impoliteness strategies and can be taken as a focus in further studies.

Abstract

As technology advances, traditional games are becoming less common, and children are spending more time indoors with digital devices. This shift raises concerns about the impact on a child's physical, social, and emotional development. Based on these facts, this Community Service program was held with the aim of increasing the understanding and awareness of Early Childhood Education (PAUD) teachers about traditional games in building early childhood character. This activity was carried out by involving 100 PAUD teachers in Cikaum Subdistrict, Subang. This program begins with the distribution of questionnaires to see preliminary data related to the understanding and awareness of ECCE teachers regarding the use of traditional games as one of the supports for the process of teaching and learning activities in the classroom, especially with its relation to building children's character. Data shows that the majority of ECCE teachers in Cikaum Subdistrict, Subang quite understand and realize the benefits of traditional games in shaping children's character. This is supported by data where 100% of participants apply traditional games in the process of teaching and learning activities in the classroom

Abstract

Preschool age that ranges from three to five years old is considered as a critical period for children’s development in several aspects. This development is highly suggested to be stimulated through activities that can be enjoyed by the children. Starting from this point, this study aims to investigate how Sundanese traditional games can promote the development of children’s cognitive, affective, and psychomotor abilities that are widely recognized as the three crucial learning domains proposed by Bloom (1956). The study that was conducted in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) in Cikaum Subang employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study were taken from questionnaires that were distributed to 92 PAUD teachers as the participants. The study reveals that about 85% of the participants implemented traditional games as one of the teaching methods in their classes. Based on the analysis, it was found that the various types of traditional games employed by singing, guessing riddles, doing role play, and involving physical activities could promote the development of children’s cognitive, affective, and psychomotor capacities in three main ways. First, they provided children with game activities that could stimulate their thinking, counting, remembering, and solving problems capacity. Second, they helped develop children’s emotional quotient through the values learned and rules implemented in the games. Lastly, they involved physical activities that could improve the children’s strength, durability, flexibility, and balance.

Abstract

In accordance with articles 31 and 32 of the 1945 Constitution, as amended in Chapter XIII, it is stipulated that every citizen has the right to education because through education, every citizen can prepare themselves to play a role in society. This right extends to migrant workers, including all members of their families working in Taiwan, who are entitled to the same educational opportunities. Recognizing the awareness and responsibility of Indonesian students pursuing undergraduate (S1), master (S2), and doctoral (S3) studies in Taiwan to assist migrant workers in furthering their education, in 2015, they established an educational institution promoting equality in the form of a non-formal education programs, later known as the Community Learning Activity Center of the Indonesian Student Association (PKBM-PPI) Taiwan. The available programs include Package A (Elementary School), Package B (Junior High School), and Package C (Senior High School). The participants are migrant workers employed in Taiwan as caregivers for the elderly, aged between 20-50 years, predominantly female. Despite the PKBM activities commencing after their regular working hours, from 21:00 to 23:00 local time or 20:00 to 22:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), participants remain enthusiastic about attending the PKBM initiated and conducted by Indonesian students. This enthusiasm extends to participating in the Basic English Conversation Program, organized through collaboration between PKBM-PPI Taiwan and the Community Service Cluster of the English Language Program, Faculty of Humanities, Widyatama University, spanning one month (8 sessions).

Abstract

This is a study of the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI), especially in language learning and teaching, especially in the 2021 stages. AI has taken significant roles in learning activities that focus on student-centered learning, namely the customization of the learning speed, direct feedback, and assessment which have benefited their intended users. It has also addressed language learning-teaching challenges, including pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, cultural differences, and motivation. However, some issues need to be addressed and regulated to ensure the safe and effective use: privacy and security of the user, technical expertise, bias, cultural sensitivity, a lack of human interaction, ethical considerations, and over-reliance on technology. Furthermore, the benefits and limitations have yet to be determined based on their dominance or balance: On one side, AI enables the learners to decide how they want to learn, while the instructors have a virtual assistant to construct curricula, materials, and assessments. On the other hand, its impact on the students in general in other learning aspects must also be considered. Therefore, it is essential to investigate further its effectiveness in how One approach is to integrate AI-based language learning tools with traditional language instruction, providing learners with a comprehensive and balanced language learning experience. For example, AI-based tools can provide learners targeted instruction and feedback on specific aspects of language use. In contrast, traditional language instruction can provide learners with opportunities for authentic language use and interaction with native speakers and peers (Lambelet & Chassot, 2019). Abstract

Implementing digital learning systems in Higher Education presents a challenge for educators as they strive to incorporate technology in the educational process in a manner that is active, interactive, and conducive to achieving student learning objectives. The goal of this study is to outline the capability and preparedness of instructors in utilizing digital learning, focusing on the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework established by Mishra & Koehler (2006). The study, which used a qualitative approach, involved 25 lecturers from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences of a private university as participants. The data was gathered by distributing surveys using Google Forms on the internet. The collected data were then processed and analysed. The output of this research is expected to be an additional reference for TPACK studies at the Higher Education level which can also be an input for the development of lecturer performance in an institution, especially in increasing lecturer competence in digital learning.
