Abstract

Community Service Activities in the form of training to make banten pejati, aims to develop human resources as support for spiritual tourism in Suranadi village, West Lombok Regency. This activity is motivated by the absence of traders who provide banten pejati in the village, even though as a spiritual tourism area it is an attraction for tourists who want to pray. The availability of banten pejati sellers in spiritual tourism areas can also make it easy for tourists, especially those from outside the region. Based on these observations, to accommodate and develop Human Resources in Suranadi village, a training program for making banten pejati in simple packaging is needed without losing its philosophical meaning. Data collection methods used in this training program are observation, interviews, and documentation. The training begins with strengthening the understanding of the philosophy of banten pejati, then continues with demonstrations and practice in groups. The results of the evaluation showed that the participants were enthusiastic about participating in the training and showed their respective creativity in the form of the ability to make tetuasan, the design of banten pejati which was minimalist, practical, economical, and fast (in a short time). Participants are expected to be able to build the skills gained from this training in an ongoing and independent manner.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has significantly transformed the way society accesses, shares, and disseminates information across various online platforms. This transformation has not only influenced the fields of communication and entertainment but has also played an important role in the preservation, promotion, and revitalization of local culture in the modern era. This study aims to examine how the Omed-Omedan tradition, one of Bali’s unique and meaningful cultural practices, is represented through the TikTok account @melali.bali, as well as how public perception is shaped and influenced by this digital representation. Using a descriptive qualitative content analysis method, the study explores visual forms, narratives, and user interactions with content featuring the Omed-Omedan tradition. The findings reveal that the @melali.bali account consistently presents content with high aesthetic value, educational narratives, and strong social and spiritual messages. TikTok has proven to hold great potential as an inclusive, participatory, and educational medium for cultural representation. The positive audience response demonstrates that social media can serve as an effective tool in maintaining the relevance of local culture while broadening its understanding in the global context.

Abstract

Implementation of sustainable ecology from a Hindu perspective through tree planting and beach clean-up activities was conducted by by the academic community of IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram, Lombok, Indonesia. This Community Service Program (PkM) was conducted as a collaborative action with local communities. The outcomes of the program were measured using a qualitative case study approach through participatory observation, unstructured interviews, and document analysis. The activities showed that tree planting supports vana kertiḥ (forest preservation), while beach clean-up efforts contribute to samudra kertiḥ (marine ecosystem conservation). Guided by the principles of ahiṁsā (non-violence) and niśkāma karma (selfless action), the program enhanced ecological awareness among participants. Aligned with SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water), this initiative demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating Hindu values into environmental management and offers a replicable model of religion-based community service for other educational institutions, despite ongoing challenges such as limited resources and low community involvement.

Abstract

This study discusses the Melukat ritual practice in Suranadi Village, West Lombok, as a form of ritual communication that reflects Hindu spiritual values while also serving as a means of strengthening religious moderation in a multicultural society. Through a qualitative approach involving observation, interviews, and analysis within the framework of symbolic interactionism theory, this study found that ritual symbols such as tirtha (holy water), mantras, and bodily movements in Melukat are not only religiously meaningful but also form symbolic communication that connects humans, nature, and God. Hindu philosophical values such as tat tvam asi, ahimsa, and tri hita karana are manifested in the actions of the faithful, creating harmony within the self, society, and the cosmos. In the context of a diverse society, Melukat has proven to be an inclusive and tolerant practice. Its implementation is open to the participation of people of different faiths and is respected as part of the local cultural heritage. Thus, this ritual functions as an instrument for maintaining interfaith harmony. This study also emphasises the importance of symbolic interaction in the formation of shared meaning and collective identity. Recommendations are directed towards the development of comparative, interfaith, and interdisciplinary approaches to expand understanding of religious communication based on local traditions.

Abstract

The death of Juliana Marins, a Brazilian national who fell while hiking Mount Rinjani, received widespread attention from both national and local media, each presenting the event with different framing approaches. This study aims to analyze the news framing of Kompas.com (national media) and Lombokpost.jawapos.com (local media) using a qualitative descriptive method and Robert N. Entman’s framing theory, which includes four elements: defining problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and suggesting remedies. Eight articles published between June 21 and July 1, 2025, were analyzed to examine differences in perspective. The results show that Kompas.com framed the event from a structural and formal viewpoint, emphasizing institutional roles and critiques of safety procedures. In contrast, Lombokpost.jawapos.com highlighted emotional aspects and human interest stories, focusing on the local guide’s account and volunteer efforts. These differences reflect each media’s editorial orientation and geographical proximity. The study affirms that media framing is influenced by social context, institutional positioning, and narrative strategies toward audiences.
