Abstract

Anxiety conditions and sleep disorders in pregnant women will affect theBrain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) level of the baby's umbilical cord blood, which will then affect the growth and development of the baby. This study aims to assess the relationship between maternal anxiety and sleep quality with neonates' BDNF levels. The research design was a cross-sectional study. Pregnant Women who gave birth by cesarean delivery method with a gestational age of ≥ 37 weeks, Totally 78 pregnant women were recruited. Anxiety levels and sleep quality were assessed by questionnaire, and BDNF levels were taken from the umbilical cord blood and then checked using the ELISA method. Data were analyzed by One-Way-Anova and Independent T-test. There was a significant association between anxiety levels and sleep quality with Neonatal BDNF levels (p = 0.000). The results obtained for pregnant women without anxiety, the mean level of BDNF is 2.017 ± 0.138 ng /ml, mild anxiety the mean value of BDNF level is 1.792 ±0.134 ng/ml, moderate anxiety the mean value of BDNF level is 1.708±0.177 ng/ ml, severe anxiety the mean value of BDNF levels was 1.585±0.257 ng/ml . Pregnant women with good sleep quality had the mean BDNF level of 1.969±0.211 ng/ml, while the mean BDNF level of poor sleep quality was 1.673 ±0.188 ng/ml. Conclusion: The higher the anxiety level of pregnant women, the lower the average Neonatal BDNF level is. The worse the sleep quality of pregnant women, the lower the average Neonatal BDNF level is.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence pregnancy poses risks for both mothers and infants, often due to insufficient prenatal care resulting from societal stigmatization and lack of awareness. Around 16 million adolescents aged 15-19 years in the world give birth each year; in Indonesia, the first pregnant women aged <20 years are 45.10%, while in West Sumatra, it is 33.7%. To address this issue, integrated programs and midwifery care have been implemented. However, providing such care to adolescent mothers comes with its own set of challenges.Purpose:  This study aims to conduct a midwifery assessment and intervention protocol for adolescent pregnancy.Method: Qualitative approach The Delphi method involved two rounds of evaluation, with twenty-one participants who were independent practice midwives, six midwives involved in the mother and child health program, and nine midwifery lecturers from accredited educational institutions A (excellent). Participants had at least five years of clinical experience and were selected using purposive non-probability sampling. Participants evaluated statements related to midwifery care during the Delphi process. The validity of these statements was determined by participants providing a minimum score of 3, and the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) was calculated. Statements with a CVR greater than 0.8 were considered valid. Results: Based on expert consensus, important assessments for adolescent pregnant women include addressing issues of gender equality and domestic violence, reproductive and sexual health, risks associated with smoking and substance abuse, maintaining a healthy pregnancy, and adequately preparing for labor and parenthood. Conclusion: Midwifery management and midwifery information were deemed valid dimensions of midwifery care; relational care had one invalid item.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of an infant’s life offers significant benefits for both the infant and mother. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia remains below the national target. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between husbands' knowledge level, number of children, and husbands' support with exclusive breastfeeding practices in the working area of Puskesmas Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta. A cross-sectional design was used involving 52 respondents selected through one-stage cluster sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test. Results showed that only 32.7% of mothers practiced exclusive breastfeeding. As many as 59.6% of husbands had poor knowledge, and 65.4% of breastfeeding mothers did not receive adequate support from their husbands. There were significant relationships between husbands’ knowledge (p = 0.001), number of children (p = 0.002), and husbands’ support (p = 0.001) with exclusive breastfeeding practices. These findings highlight the crucial role of husbands in breastfeeding success. Therefore, family-based interventions that enhance husbands’ knowledge and involvement are essential to improve exclusive breastfeeding coverage and support the achievement of national child health goal.

Abstract

Stunting among children is a serious global concern including Indonesia since it has a negative impact on children's growth and development. Globally, more than 148 million children are affected by stunting. In Indonesia, the prevalence of stunting was 21.6% in 2022, which reflected a serious problem that needs to be addressed. This study aims to explore the correlation between exclusive breastfeeding, nutritional status and stunting among under-five children in Indonesia. The current study explored the correlation between exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) and nutritional status with the incidence of stunting among under-five. The inclusion criteria consisted of original articles, open access, written in English/Indonesian, 2020-2023, discussed EBF, nutritional status, and stunting. Databases involved ScienceDirect, PubMed, BMC journals, Google Scholar. Article selection used keywords and MeSH, and the results were presented in a PRISMA diagram. It was conducted an analysis of 10 articles, which were grouped in a matrix based on author, year, journal name, title, methods, and results. The results revealed that exclusive breastfeeding practice was correlated with a 3.1-fold reduction in the risk of stunting (CI 95%=1.5–6.4). Factors such as good nutrition and breastfeeding for at least 6 months provided protection from the risk of stunting. In conclusion, exclusive breastfeeding and good nutritional status were required, along with strengthening education and promotion regarding nutritional fulfilment patterns. Integration of the study findings should be made in child health guidelines, which may further guide policy and practice, support concrete steps to reduce the prevalence of stunting, and ensure optimal growth of children. Recommendations in this study include improvement in maternal education, nutritional support, and child health policy advocacy. For next steps, in-depth research is needed to evaluate the impact of specific nutritional interventions, understand the social and cultural factors that influence nutritional practices, and assess the effectiveness of cross-sector programs in reducing the prevalence of stunting.

Abstract

Maternal mental health in the postpartum period is a critical factor influencing infant development, especially during the First 1,000 Days of Life. Postpartum depression may impair caregiving quality and contribute to developmental delays in children. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) scores and infant developmental outcomes based on the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire (KPSP) among infants aged 3–12 months. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 85 mother–infant dyads attending Posyandu in East Jakarta. The EPDS was used to screen for postpartum depression, while KPSP assessed infant development. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation. A total of 83.5% of mothers were at risk of postpartum depression (EPDS ≥10). Only 16.5% of infants showed age-appropriate development, while 56.5% were questionable and 27.1% showed developmental delays. There was a very strong and statistically significant negative correlation between EPDS scores and infant development scores (r = -0.962; p < 0.01). Conclusions: There is a significant association between postpartum depression and delayed infant development. Routine screening and community-based interventions are essential to integrate maternal mental health assessment with child development monitoring.
