Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the integrity crisis of Indonesia's 2024 General Election as portrayed in the documentary film Dirty Vote through the classical Islamic political thought of Abu al-Hasan al-Mawardi and Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali. The study employs a qualitative multi-method design by combining Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of the documentary's empirical claims with library research on major Islamic political texts, including Al-Ahkam as-Sulthaniyyah, Ihya Ulumuddin, and Nasihatul Mulk. The findings indicate that electoral engineering—including manipulation of candidacy age requirements, gerrymandering through Papua's regional expansion, bureaucratic mobilization, weakened oversight by the KPU and Bawaslu, and pork-barrel politics through the politicization of social assistance—constitutes structured, systematic, and massive violations. From Al-Mawardi's perspective, these practices breach the social contract (bay'ah), misuse public funds (Baitul Mal), and produce a moral defect in leadership (Al-Jarh fi al-Adalah). Al-Ghazali's perspective interprets them as political moral decay (fasad al-siyasah), reinforced by the separation of religion from politics, exploitation of poverty (al-faqr), and declining intellectual integrity among opportunistic scholars (ulama al-su') within oversight institutions. The study proposes electoral reconstruction based on institutional accountability (amanah), regulatory transparency (shiddiq), impartial law enforcement ('adl), and the institutionalization of independent civil-society oversight as public control (hisbah).

Abstract

This research discusses Islamic inheritance law with a focus on the wisdom and urgency of obeying the inheritance provisions as stated in QS. An-Nisa verses 13–14. Inheritance is an important aspect of Islamic law because it directly relates to the rights of heirs and justice in the distribution of inherited property. However, its implementation in society often raises problems due to lack of understanding, the influence of customs, and a tendency to ignore Sharia rules. This research aims to analyze the concept of Islamic inheritance, the historical development of inheritance law, as well as the wisdom and urgency of obeying inheritance law based on Wahbah az-Zuhaili's interpretation in Tafsir Al-Munir. The research uses a library research method with a thematic interpretation approach to inheritance verses. The main data sources are the Qur'an and Tafsir Al-Munir by Wahbah az-Zuhaili, while supporting data sources are obtained from hadith, other books of interpretation, and literature related to Islamic inheritance law. The results show that the provisions of inheritance are among Allah's limits (hudud Allah) that must be obeyed. Obedience contains the values of justice, benefit, and protection of rights. Conversely, violation of these provisions can lead to family conflicts and contradicts the goals of Islamic law in realizing social justice

Abstract

Declining student participation in student organizations at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra has become a concern because these organizations play a vital role in character building, social skill development, and leadership education. This study analyzes the level of student participation, identifies the factors contributing to low participation, and examines its implications for leadership education. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using interviews, observation, and documentation involving 20 informants, including active, semi-active, and inactive students as well as student organization administrators. The findings reveal that student participation remains low to moderate due to high academic workloads, the dominance of digital technology, limited organizational interest, weak leadership development, economic constraints, and poor time management. These factors weaken leadership regeneration and reduce opportunities for developing leadership competencies. This study contributes to the higher education literature by demonstrating that improving leadership education requires adaptive organizational governance and inclusive cadre development, rather than relying solely on student motivation. Therefore, strengthening cadre development, innovating organizational programs, utilizing social media effectively, and fostering an inclusive organizational environment are essential to increasing student participation and leadership development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the construction of religious meanings embedded in the Nasi Berkat Mayit tradition in Sei Mencirim Village and to reconstruct the tradition from the perspective of Wahbah al-Zuhaili’s Tafsir al-Munir. This research employs a qualitative approach through field research within the framework of Living Qur’an studies. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with 13 informants, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, combined with thematic Qur’anic interpretation of verses related to charity, social solidarity, and the principle of removing hardship in Islamic teachings. The findings reveal that the Nasi Berkat Mayit tradition consists of three interconnected dimensions: theological dimension as an expression of charity and prayer for the deceased, cultural dimension as a form of Javanese collective identity, and social dimension as a mechanism for strengthening community solidarity. Through the analysis of Tafsir al-Munir, this study argues that the tradition can be maintained as long as it fulfills three Qur’anic principles: al-birr (commitment to goodness), ta’āwun (cooperation in righteousness), and raf’ al-ḥaraj (the removal of hardship). This study proposes a maslahah-based reconstruction model through value selection, critical evaluation, and transformation of traditional practices to ensure their relevance within contemporary social conditions while preserving their Qur’anic substance. These findings contribute to Living Qur’an studies by demonstrating that the relationship between the Qur’an and local traditions operates through a dialogical process of negotiation and social reconstruction
