Abstract

Indonesia is one of the malaria-endemic countries commits to eliminate malaria in 2030. The implementation of malaria control program policy is a determinant to achieve the goal. This research was qualitative that described the implementation of malaria control program policy in Garut Regency, West Java Province. The data collected through in-depth interviews and documents’ review. The implementation of malaria control had referred to guidelines from the Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia. This control was also technically adjusted to regional conditions. Case detection of malaria was conducted such as a mass blood survey, rapid diagnostic tests and a microscopic laboratory test both passive and active. The malaria case surveillance has already accomplished. However, the vector was left. The malaria vector control focused on the distribution of insecticide-treated nets and the insecticide spray by the Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) technique. The analysis indicated that the cross-program cooperation at the central government was well coordinated. However, at the level of the district, this cooperation has to be tightened. Moreover, malaria control budget was still the under district level, so that controlling malaria program did not cover all aspects of the implementation.

Abstract

One of the effort for controlling Aedes aegypti as dengue vector is by using synthetic larvicide such as temephos. Continuous and repeating utilization of temephos may increase the risk of resistance. The objective of this study was to determine the susceptibility of Ae. aegypti larvae against temephos in endemic areas of dengue fever in Tasikmalaya. This was a true experimental study with a block-randomized design. The populations were Ae. aegypti larvae, which existed at household in Tasikmalaya City. There were 700 larvae of Ae. aegypti, which taken from households in each Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever endemic area, and have been bred to third generation (F3). Susceptibility of temephos was tested by Elliot and Polson methods using WHO diagnostic dose 0.02 ppm. Results showed that the LC95 of temephos were 0.00926 ppm in Village of Sukamanah, 0.01015 ppm in Village of Cikalang, 0.01137 ppm in Village of Kersanagara, and 0.02045 ppm in Village of Tugujaya. This research concludes that Ae. aegypti larvae from Tugujaya were indicated resistant to temephos.

Abstract

High cases of dengue fever in Jakarta lead to increased insecticides usage in Aedes aegypti control activity. Malathion and temephos are the most frequent used insecticide in Jakarta. These insecticides derived from organophosphates class. This sudy aimed to know the resistance status of Ae. aegypti in three municipalities in Jakarta to malathion 0.8 % and temephos 0.02 ppm. This study was an observational study with cross-sectional design. Research sites consisted of three municipalities i.e. East Jakarta, West Jakarta and South Jakarta. Each municipality represented by three public health centers. The study population were all houses located in highest endemic ares in each health centers. Larvae survey was conducted in 100 houses in each area. Collected larvae was then colonized to 3rd generation. Test of susceptibility to malathion 0.8 % was done using impregnated paper refers to the WHO method, whereas temephos susceptibility test was conducted in accordance with Elliot method. The result showed that Ae. aegypti in all research areas have been resistant totemephos 0,02 ppm and malathion 0.8 %. The usage of malathion and temephos in long term caused the resistance of Ae. aegypti. Need replacement insecticide with the active ingredient that is pr oven its effectiveness as well as increased mosquito eradication efforts in the community.

Abstract

The uncontrolled use of sound systems in mosques, especially after the call to prayer and iqomah, often leads to waste of energy and disturbances to the surrounding environment. This research aims to develop an Arduino-based automation system that can set the time of turning on and off the sound system in the mosque according to the adhan schedule, in order to improve operational efficiency and reduce electricity consumption. The system is designed using an Arduino UNO microcontroller, which regulates the sound device via a relay based on manually entered timing. Testing was carried out using Wokwi software simulations, and the results were then applied to a physical prototype. Testing is carried out with various time settings (5, 10, 15, and 20 minutes) to assess the accuracy and reliability of the system. The test results showed that the system was able to control the sound device with a 100% success rate in all the times tested. This system has proven to be effective in reducing the duration of unnecessary use of sound devices, potentially saving energy. The developed system provides a practical solution to reduce energy waste in mosques and improve the operational management of sound devices. Further implementation of this system in mosques can provide significant social and environmental benefits, especially in terms of congregational comfort and energy savings. Field testing as well as the development of IoT-based technologies in the future can expand the functionality of these systems.
