Abstract

Daemonorops draco (Willd.) Blume fruit has been used as a traditional medicine which is well-known as an antiseptic, stimulates blood circulation, anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-tumor, wound medicine, diarrhea, fractures, gonorrhea, minor burns and others. Daemonorops draco (Willd.) Blume belonging to the Arecaceae tribe contains a class of chemical compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids/triterpenoids, and glycosides. Flavonoid compounds, saponins and tannins are chemical compounds that have potential as antibacterial and antiviral. This study aims to determine the characteristics of simplicia, phytochemical screening, antibacterial activity test of the ethanol extract of Daemonorops draco (Willd.) Blume fruit.Simplicia characterization includes organoleptic, macroscopic, microscopic examination, determination of water content. Extraction was carried out by maceration using ethanol as a solvent. Phytochemical screening was carried out on simplicia powder, fruit ethanol extract Daemonorops draco (Willd.) Blume, assay of antibacterial activity of extract using diffusion methodagar by observing the zone of inhibition against several test bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella thypi. The results of simplicia characterization obtained water content of 4.65%. The results of the phytochemical screening test of simplicia and ethanolic extracts contained groups of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, tannins, steroids/triterpenoids. Having the highest antibacterial activity was ethanol extract from Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus bacteria followed by Gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Salmonella thypi at a concentration of 500 mg/ml with an effective inhibitory diameter of 15.5 mm, Escherichia coli at 14.3 mm, Salmonella typhi at 14, 8 mm.

Abstract

Background: Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) contains medium-chain saturated fatty acids (MCFA), particularly lauric acid, which is known for its antibacterial properties. VCO has the potential to be formulated into a practical and hygienic paper soap dosage form. In paper soap formulation, glycerin acts as a plasticizer that affects the physical properties of the preparation, but its effect on antibacterial activity has not been widely explored. Objective: This study aimed to formulate VCO paper soap with variations in glycerin concentration and to analyze its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Methods: This experimental research formulated four paper soap formulas with variations in glycerin concentration: 0% (F1), 10% (F2), 15% (F3), and 20% (F4). The preparations were evaluated through organoleptic tests, pH tests, foam height tests, and free alkali tests. Antibacterial activity was tested against Staphylococcus aureus using the disk diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer) with a positive control (commercial paper soap) and a negative control (aquadest). Results: The evaluation results showed that all formulas met the physico-chemical quality standards for soap. Formula 3 (15% glycerin) was the best preparation based on overall evaluation. The antibacterial test showed that all four VCO paper soap formulas (F1-F4) had moderate antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with inhibition zone diameters that were not statistically significantly different. The negative control showed no activity, while the positive control showed strong antibacterial activity. Conclusion: It was concluded that VCO paper soap was successfully formulated and exhibited moderate antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Variations in glycerin concentration (0-20%) did not significantly affect the antibacterial activity, which is presumed to be more influenced by the lauric acid content in VCO.

Abstract

Gel scrub is a skin care product containing scrub granules to remove dead skin cells and dirt. Gel scrub is made using a gelling agent, namely carbopol. The community service activity was implemented using lectures, demonstrations, and a question-and-answer session. The purpose of this outreach is to enable the community to process coffee grounds, which are usually useless waste, into a pharmaceutical preparation, namely gel scrub, which has high economic value, thereby improving the community's economy (entrepreneurship). The outcome of this community service is to increase community knowledge and enable the community to process coffee waste into a gel scrub with economic value, thus improving the local economy. Based on survey results, the level of community knowledge regarding gel scrub education during the pretest was 15%, while after the posttest it was 80%.

Abstract

Abstract

Corn is a popular ingredient in facial skin care products. Corn contains thiamine, which can dry wounds and eliminate acne scars that appear as holes on the face or black spots. Corn starch is made into a gel mask with the gelling ingredient hidroxy prophyl methyl cellulose (HPMC). This research intends to establish if a gel mask manufactured from sweet corn starch (Zea mays saccharata) can meet the requirements of the physical quality test assessment results, as well as the stability requirements. The research approach is experimental, employing a sample gathering methodology known as purposive sampling. The evaluation of gel mask preparations includes evaluating the physical quality of the preparations, irritant testing on 10 participants, and drying time tests on the preparations. The evaluation of the preparations revealed that all gel mask formulations were semi-solid gels with a yellowish white color and a distinct corny smell. The results were homogeneous, with an average pH of 7.5–7.7, spreadability of 5–7 cm, and viscosity of 22133-67566. The preparation also exhibited stable stability at room temperature and did not irritate volunteers' skin. Therefore, both the stability requirements and the physical quality test assessment results are satisfied by the preparation.

Abstract

Glibenclamide, another name for glyburide, is one of the antidiabetic drugs oral (ADO) which works by closing the K+-ATP channels in pancreatic beta cells thereby increasing insulin release. 4-trans-hydroxyglibenclamide is the main metabolite of glibenclamide which also has hypoglycemic effects. This study aims to determine the maximum wavelength of glibenclamide and its metabolite 4-trans-hydroxyglibenclamide. The results showed that the maximum wavelength of glibenclamide was at 300.60 nm, while 4-trans-hydroxyglibenclamide was at 299.50 nm and the glibenclamide calibration curve was obtained using the regression equation Y= Y=0.010x+0.001 with a correlation coefficient of 0.998, while 4 -trans-hydroxyglibenclamide Y= 0.0102x-0.0098 with a correlation coefficient of 0.99
