Abstract

AbstractListening skill is commonly used in daily activities. Nevertheless, there are a lot of students who still got difficulties when it comes to listening activity. One of the solution to solve listening problem is to use the existance of media, namely song and podcast to help students improving their listening comprehension. In this paper, researcher employed quantitative method with quasi-experimental design using two-group pretest-posttest. The aim of this research were: (1) to find out whether there was a significant difference in achievement of students’ listening skills after being taught by using song and those who were taught by using podcast, and (2) to find out which media that gave more significant effect in students’ listening skills. The data was analyzed by using Independent Sample t-test in SPSS 20. This paper showed that there was significant difference in achievement of students’ listening skills between the students who were taught by using song and those who were taught by using podcast. From the results of the data, teaching listening through podcast gave more significant effect to increase students’ listening skills.Keywords: song, podcast, listening skillsAbstrak  Keterampilan mendengarkan selalu digunakan dalam kegiatan sehari-hari. Meskipun demikian, masih banyak siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam kegiatan mendengarkan. Salah satu solusi untuk memecahkan masalah mendengarkan adalah dengan menggunakan media, yaitu lagu dan podcast untuk membantu siswa meningkatkan pemahaman mendengarkan mereka. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen semu dengan membandingkan menggunakan two-group pretest-posttest. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian keterampilan mendengarkan siswa setelah diajar dengan menggunakan lagu dan mereka yang diajar dengan menggunakan podcast, dan (2) untuk mengetahui media apa yang memberikan pengaruh yang lebih signifikan dalam keterampilan mendengarkan siswa. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Independent Sample t-test di SPSS 20. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian keterampilan mendengarkan siswa antara siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan lagu dan mereka yang diajar dengan menggunakan podcast. Dari hasil data tersebut, kegiatan mendengarkan melalui podcast memberikan pengaruh yang lebih signifikan terhadap peningkatan keterampilan mendengarkan siswa.Kata Kunci: lagu, podcast, kemampuan mendengar

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether there was an improvement in students’ reading comprehension by using the NHT technique among the twelfth-grade students of MAN 3 Solok. This research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research data were collected through observation and tests. The test is given to the students in the form of a reading comprehension post-test at the end of learning at each cycle. The subject of this research was the twelfth grade of religion students of MAN 3 Solok. The total number of students in the class was 28 students. The result of the analysis showed that the NHT technique could improve students’ reading comprehension. It was shown from the result of students’ reading comprehension test in two cycles. The result of the reading comprehension test showed that there were improvements in students’ reading comprehension scores by using the NHT technique. On the initial score of students (pretest), the average score of the class was 56,08. The result obtained by students in the cycle I (post-test) the average score of the class was 72,59. In the cycle II results obtained by students, the average score of the class was 79.10. Based on the students’ results in cycle I and cycle II can be concluded that the minimum criteria of score was reached. The minimum criteria for the score (KKM) was 75. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the use of the NHT technique could improve students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the perception of using Zoom Meeting Applications as an application for learning English for students. The use of Zoom Meeting Applications in learning English had been used by English teacher. The kind of this research was a survey through a quantitative method. The population was the second grade of SMK Kesehatan Prima Nusantara in the Academic Year 2021/2022. The researcher used the total sampling technique because the population was less than 100 students. The instrument of this research was a questionnaire that consisted of 45 items.The total percentage of data analysis was the highest category that was chosen was disadvantages of Zoom Meeting Application (70%), during zoom advantages (68%), advantages of Zoom Meeting Application (64%), and the lowest chosen category are features of Zoom Meeting Application (62%). The result of students’ perception of using Zoom Meeting Application in English learning was 66%. The researcher concluded that students’ perception is enough perception by finding the average of each process chosen by the students. Thus, the result of the research showed that the students dominantly neutral the use of Zoom Meeting Application in English learning.

Abstract

This research was due to discover the effect of using impromptu speaking method toward students’ fluency in speaking. This research is quantitative research and the kind of this research is experimental research. The design of this research is Pre experimental research with one group pretest posttest design. The population of the research was the eleventh grade student at SMAN 2 Bukik Barisan, which consisted two classes. In taking the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling technique, in which IPA class became the sample of the research, which consisted of 15 students. The data were gotten from the students’ speaking test that were given before and after treatment was given. The result of the research indicate that the score of the students’ posttest is higher than the score of the students’ pretest. The mean score of pretest is 59.867 where the mean score of students’ posttest is 69.50. It mean that the impromptu speaking speaking method gave contribution toward the students’ fluency in speaking. In addition to test hypothesis, the t-obtained is 14.61 while t-table on α= 0,05 is 1.761. It mean that the t-obtained is higher than t-table. In other words, the Ha was accepted, which stated that there was significaant effect of using Impromptu Speaking method toward students’ fluency in speaking at the Eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Bukik Barisan. It can be concluded that, using Impromptu speaking method gives significant effect for students in learning speaking especially in speaking fluency. In short, impromptu speaking method can improve students’ fluency in speaking that the teacher gave for them.

Abstract

The research was due to several problems found in the field: the students less vocabulary in English. It was indicated when I tried asked some students to translate about some vocabulary, some of students knew the the meaning of those vocabulary but much of the students did not knew what the meaning is. The research is aimed to find out students perception on vocabulary translation in Learning English at the second grade students of SMKN 4 Payakumbuh.The research used descriptive quantitative research by using questionnaire as an instrument. The result of the research: first students perception on word to word method with 26,7% in rating quality is almost of half with the mean of the respondent’s answer moderate option. Second, students perception on free translation method with 30,2% in rating quality is almost of half with the mean of the respondent’s answer moderate option. students perception on teacher’s facial expression with 36,4% in rating quality of good. Third, students perception on literal translation method with 25,02% in rating quality is fraction with the mean of the respondent’s answer is hard option. It can be concluded that almost of half students have moderate opinion about all indicator of translate method on vocabulary translation in Learning English at the seventh grade students of SMKN 4 Payakumbuh in Academic Year 2020/2021.
