Abstract

Kata kunci: konvergensi media, difusi inovasi, media massa ABSTRACT The convergence of media is one of the developments of mass media that involve many technology factors in it. The existence of internet encourages the media to apply the concept of convergence of media such as online media, e-paper, e-books, radio streaming, social media, and others. Competition in media business is one factor driving the mass media to apply this concept because the mass media today does not merely rely on printted formats (newspapers, magazines, books) alone. Media convergence innovation is deemed necessary in order that the mass media be able to remain competitive in today's media business era. As one of the innovations in the mass media, media convergence requires a variety of processes and stages in the application. This paper will explore the process of diffusion of convergence innovation in the dailynews Pikiran Rakyat. This qualitative study describes how the media convergence is adopted by the mass media in stages. Keywords: media convergence, diffusion of innovation, mass media

Abstract

The on-street parking retribution generates a significant income for Bandung City’s local revenue. At the implementation level, agents who directly relate to the public (street-level bureaucrats) produce behavior contrary to the policy’s objective. In developing this behavior, the agent performs calculations that, in the process, involve non-human materials. This study will show how agents calculate space when dealing with the dilemmas faced in the practice of the e-parking parking policy. This study uses a qualitative method with the theoretical framework of Actor-Network Theory (ANT) as an analytical tool to describe the role of actors from both human and non-human perspectives in the calculation space. From the perspective of the calculation space, several concerns can be explored and considered in the implementation of the e-parking policy. Not even at street-level bureaucrats, behaviors contrary to objectives also occur at the agent level. The recommendation policy can be improved by considering the heterogeneous associations between human and non-human actors and the calculations and translations that occur through these heterogeneous associations.

Abstract

Abstract

The advancement of information and communication technology (ICT) has paved the way for the emergence of digital transportation service platforms worldwide. The emergence of this digital-based innovation in transportation service has triggered debates regarding its legal frameworks. However, digital transportation services have evolved vastly over time and significantly changed urban socio-economic life. The present paper aims to describe the evolution of digital transportation service platforms in Indonesia from the perspective of socio-technical transition developed by Frank Geels and his co-workers. The data used in the paper were obtained from interviews with various actors, field observations, reviews of relevant legal documents, and information from popular media. The results of this study reveal that the transition toward digital transportation services in Indonesia followed a dynamic path in which actors from the government levels, from business sectors as well from local and traditional communities, took part via contested interactions. Understanding this dynamic transition helps in making assessments and planning to achieve sustainability of digital innovation in Indonesia.

Abstract

Learning about slum upgrading, with a particular focus on activity transformation, is critical for addressing slum problems resulting from rapid urbanization. Consequently, this research focuses on ‘Kampung Berkebun Pajajaran’, Bandung, as a case study of a successful slum transformation. Previous research has focused partially on specific aspects of transformation. This article employs the development thinking framework to analyze the complete picture, examining the interplay between the program, community's agency, initiatives, and external support structures. This framework equips researchers with a critical lens to provide a comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of activity transformation that occurred. The findings indicate that development thinking framework offers a more comprehensive understanding of the transformation from a broader perspective. The results demonstrate that the community prioritized values of solidarity, self-reliance, and collaboration to achieve progress. Their vision of reduced dependency materialized through the urban farming initiative, generating social, economic, and environmental benefits.

Abstract

The Development of Kampung Susun Akuarium has caused many changes. The kampung community had experienced a downturn because they lost their homes, livelihoods and social environment, but they chose to rise again. This research uses a development thinking framework in analyzing the way of views or values of the community, ideas of progress, agents involved, resources, and patterns of change that occur in the kampung community. This framework makes it possible to see community change in various aspects and provides an alternative perspective on development. The qualitative method was carried out with observations and interviews with the community and local leaders, coupled with a review of related literature. As a result, we found that the values as a unified Kampung community continue to be maintained amidst the change. Then, independence and increased capability become the criteria of progress for the community that is being strived for. This is done by actors or institutions that mainly come from the grassroots, namely Koperasi and non-governmental organizations, through community empowerment efforts in improving livelihoods. The local government itself tends to be constrained by internal political dynamics, resulting in a lack of sustainability of the Development program. Finally, the revival of kampung communities is pursued primarily by the communities themselves.

Abstract

Waste management challenges have continued to evolve in tandem with rapid population growth, which directly contributes to increasing volumes of waste. This study investigates the innovation transition in waste management practices at PUSPA Jelekong, located in Bandung Regency, Indonesia. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research draws on primary data (observations and interviews) as well as secondary sources (literature and regulatory documents). The analysis is framed using Frank Geels’ Multi-Level Perspective (MLP), which conceptualizes sociotechnical transitions across three analytical levels: niches, regimes, and landscapes. The study delineates three key phases of transition: prior to 2019, the period between 2019 and 2022, and from 2023 onward. The findings reveal a substantial transformation in PUSPA Jelekong’s waste management system from a previously inadequate framework to a more integrated and innovative model. The MLP framework proves instrumental in identifying stable landscape pressures, cross-level actor interactions, and critical factors driving the transition. Moreover, the process reflects a broader shift in the social function of waste. Through PUSPA’s educational initiatives, waste has been increasingly a shift toward practices that may support the development of a community-based circular economy.

Abstract

ABSTRACT In the literature, it is common to view indigenous peoples in terms of places and territories, local cultures, and unique origins. Such studies go further to identify knowledge and wisdom, and to address the question of sustainability of indigenous peoples, in terms of localities. What seems to be lacking in this spatial view is attention to motions. The aim of this brief article is to bring the mobilities paradigm to the literature on indigenous peoples by presenting a case study. The empirical question that guides our research is how the locality of indigenous peoples be assembled and maintained. Our research addresses this question by examining the localizing factors that form the Cireundeu Village’s indigenous community in Cimahi, West Java. This community originated from the expansion of Kasepuhan Sunda Wiwitan Cigugur, Kuningan. We employ case study method to gather and analyze empirical data and make use of relevant information from secondary sources. Our findings indicate that there are circulations of things, people and information that form and maintain the locality of Cireundeu’s indigenous people. Among these are ideas, technical skills and knowledge. While there is boundary that defines inside and outside, this boundary is maintained through circulations. The capacity of Cireundeus’s indigenous people to adapt to changes seems to develop from their mobilities, instead of reliance on local fixities. With the findings of this research, we seek to contribute to the debates between spatial turns and mobility turns in social theories and argue for the relevance of mobilities paradigm in the study of indigenous peoples. We belief that a more inter-disciplinary understanding of indigenous peoples would lead to enriched insights into indigenous communities' social and cultural dynamics and provide a new approach to address sustainable development of communities within the increasingly interconnected world.
