Abstract

This article aims to find out the efforts made by English Teachers’ Descussion Group (MGMP) of West Sumatra to enhance pedagogic and professional competencies as English teachers and to find out their understanding and ability to implementing those two competencies in the teaching learning process. The data were collected by questionnaires  based on the indicators of the two competencies as explained in the standards of competencies published by national standards of education. Abstract

This research was motivated by observations and interviews of learning tools for reading skills lectures in the Indonesian Language and Literature study program, Bung Hatta University. It is known that reading courses are generally given in the form of minimal reading theory and practice. As a result, students have difficulty understanding the reading text because students do not know the genre of the text being read. To solve this problem, one of the alternatives proposed is to apply the AP4M Model in Reading Comprehension of Narrative Text Genres through E-Learning. The research objective was to describe students' reading comprehension skills using the AP4M model. This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods. The research subjects were students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program, Bung Hatta University, Padang, class 2019/2020. The results showed that the students' ability to determine themes and messages was 8.90; determine the type of narrative text and its description 8.90; determine the structure of the narrative text genre 9.80; determine the character of the character 7.8. The results of the research on the application of the AP4M Model in reading comprehension of the narrative text genre of students were 8.6 with the very good category.

Abstract

Recognizing the critical intersection of technology and education, particularly in language acquisition, the State Islamic College of Madina in North Sumatra undertook a study to investigate the innovation and development of English language learning media through Information Technology (IT) integration. The study aimed to address the following objectives: firstly, to identify the existing technological landscape in English language instruction; secondly, to assess the effectiveness of IT-based learning resources; and finally, to explore opportunities for improvement and future development in this domain. This research seeks to bridge the gap in literature by examining the nuanced impact of IT integration on English language education within the context of a religious institution. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were gathered from students, educators, and administrators to gain insights into their perceptions of IT-based learning resources. The key findings revealed varying levels of technological competence among participants, impacting their engagement with IT tools. Educators emphasized the necessity of seamlessly integrating technology into lessons to enhance student engagement and learning experiences. Meanwhile, students acknowledged the convenience of digital resources but highlighted challenges such as technical issues and content relevance. Notable trends include the importance of investing in educator professional development and improving IT resource accessibility.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk meninjau efektivitas penggunaan teknologi Artificial Intellgence (AI) dalam pembelajaran Bahasa. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisis konsep dengan menggunakan pelndelkatan systelmatilc liltelraturel relvilelw (SRL).  Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa seìbagai beìrikut.  Peìrtama, adanya peìningkatan yang signifikan dalam keìteìrampilan meìndeìngarkan, beìrbicara, meìmbaca, dan meìnulis seìteìlah meìnggunakan AI. Teìmuan ini meìndukung eìfeìktivitas peìnggunaan AI dalam peìmbeìlajaran bahasa. Keìdua, teìknoìloìgi AI dapat meìndukung peìrsoìnalisasi peìmbeìlajaran. Keìtiga, AI dapat digunakan untuk meìmbeìrikan umpan balik yang eìfeìktif keìpada siswa. Namun, ada beìbeìrapa tantangan yang mungkin timbul dalam peìmanfaatan teìknoìloìgi AI dalam koìnteìks peìndidikan. Salah satunya adalah keìkhawatiran teìntang privasi dan keìamanan data siswa. Seìlain itu, peìnting juga untuk meìmpeìrtimbangkan bahwa teìknoìloìgi AI tidak dapat seìpeìnuhnya meìnggantikan peìran guru, teìtapi hanya beìrfungsi seìbagai alat bantu yang kuat. Keìsimpulannya, peìmanfaatan teìknoìloìgi AI dapat meìmbeìrikan manfaat yang signifikan bagi guru dalam meìnghadapi tantangan di eìra digital. Deìngan meìmanfaatkan AI, guru dapat meìngeìloìla data deìngan leìbih eìfisieìn, meìmbeìrikan peìmbeìlajaran yang peìrsoìnal, dan meìmbeìrikan umpan balik yang eìfeìktif keìpada siswa. Guru dapat mengintegrasikan teknologi kecerdasan buatan dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Penggunaan AI telah terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan, berbicara, membaca, dan menulis. Oleh karena itu, guru dapat mencari atau mengembangkan aplikasi atau platform pembelajaran yang menggunakan teknologi AI untuk meningkatkan efektivitas pembelajaran bahasa

Abstract

In designing the course or part of the course such assessments, it is well-established to know the lecturers’ needs as the preliminary study. This study aims to investigate the lecturer’s needs regarding the assessment model for Basic Reading in higher education. The data were collected through interviews with three lecturers. The researchers used purposive sampling to select the participants from a private university in Padang City, West Sumatera, Indonesia. The data from the interview were analyzed qualitatively. It was found that the lecturers perceived that they needed to improve the quality of teaching and learning, especially in assessment. They need to implement an authentic blended assessment model oriented to self-directed learning in Basic Reading subject, because it helps students to be independent.

Abstract

Students need to comprehend and become proficient in the art of writing scientific articles in order to be able to generate quality works in the form of scientific articles that they have written themselves (Matarese, 2013). Background of the research, there are problems:(1) Students have trouble coming up with ideas for scientific articles. (2) Students have trouble putting the right words together. (3) Main ideas that don't match up with the best topics. The aim of this research is need analysis of the model for writing scientific articles. The research method is both descriptive and qualitative. It involves doing preliminary research, such as a needs and context analysis, a review of the literature, and a survey of students. The people who were studied Putera Batam University students in the odd semester of 2021/2022 in state administration and english literature. The study's results show that students and teachers need the model to learn how to write scientific articles that include reading references, article reviews, observations, information and creative ideas, case studies, article manuscripts, and activated publication. The research results show that students and professors need the model to be developed based on the results of tohe needs analysis. This is because the model can help students solve their problems and get them more interested in learning by making learning fun.
