Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning paradigm on the problem-solving abilities of tenth-grade students at SMK Negeri 2 Kediri. The study uses a quantitative approach. Participants in this research were students from class X Hospitality 2 at SMK Negeri 2 Kediri. Students’ cognitive abilities acquired during the formal operational stage were considered when selecting the population. Each class was randomly sampled under the assumption that all classes were homogeneous. Not all students occupied seats in class X due to the study being conducted in a school environment, where researchers were required to comply with institutional regulations. Based on the research results, the experimental class scored 63.29 on the pre-test before receiving the Realistic Mathematics Education model and 86.32 on the post-test after being treated with the RME learning model. The problem-solving abilities of tenth-grade students at SMK Negeri 2 Kediri can be influenced by the application of the RME learning paradigm.

Abstract

Abstract

The lack of availability of HOTS math questions in the field makes it difficult for teachers to teach students higher order thinking skills. Most of the hots questions developed were based on Bloom's taxonomy revised by Anderson et al. This study aims to produce valid and reliable HOTS questions and to measure students' higher-order thinking skills. This study uses a Tessmer model development research. This development model consists of 2 stages, namely (1) the preliminary stage and (2) the formative evaluation. Instrument testing was carried out in class X MIPA E SMA Negeri 1 Kediri. The data collection instruments included a question grid, a HOTS class X maths question sheet based on Krulik-Rudnick's, a validation sheet, and a question readability questionnaire. The data analysis technique uses item analysis which consists of validity, reliability, level of difficulty, and distinguishing power. This research has produced 11 items that are valid, practical, and reliable. In addition, this study produced a reliable item with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.921. The results of the test questions concluded that the high-order thinking skills (HOTS) of class X students in mathematics were good with an average score of 33.17.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' learning outcomes in the subject of Social and Natural Sciences on the topic of electrical energy and its applications through the implementation of a problem-based learning model supported by circuit experiments. The research was conducted in the fifth grade of SD Negeri Sukorame 2, Kota Kediri, involving 26 students, consisting of 16 boys and 10 girls. The research method used is classroom action research carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observations and evaluation tests comprising five essay questions administered at the end of each cycle. The results of the study showed an improvement in students' learning outcomes from the first cycle to the second cycle. In the first cycle, the average learning score was 70, with a classical completeness rate of 42.31%. Following the implementation of the problem-based learning model with experimental support, the average learning score in the second cycle increased to 88.5%, with a classical completeness rate of 88.5%, exceeding the predetermined standard. This study demonstrates that problem-based learning accompanied by experiments is effective in enhancing students' understanding of the material, critical thinking skills, and independent learning.
