Abstract

Hormon Replacement Therapy is a common therapy for estrogen deficiency but in other side it will increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Another alternative therapy which relatively more safe is using phytoestrogen. The Citrus reticulata’s peel contain flavanone and polimethoxyflavone which are suspected to give estrogenic effect, therefore it is potential to be used as phytoestrogen. The purpose of this study was to examine the estrogenic effect of Citrus reticulata’s peel extract in modulation of bone density and blood cholesterol profile of ovariectomized rats (OVX), an animal model of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Thirty six 7-weeks-old female Sprague Dawley rats were assigned to six groups: a SO group, an OVX group, an OVX+CMCNa group, an OVX+extract dose 500 mg/kgBW group, an OVX+extract dose 1000 mg/kgBW group, and an OVX+estradiol group. After 7 weeks, the rats were killed then blood and femoral were collected immediately. The rontgenogram indicated that extract and estradiol administration increase the bone density. And the data analysis with Oneway ANOVA test ,followed by Shceffé test (P 0.05) showed that extract can improve blood cholesterol profile in dose depend manner. These results suggest a possible role of Citrus reticulata’s peel extract as women’s health agent because of its beneficial effects on bone and lipids.

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic happened 100 years after Spanish Flu which caused high mortality in the world. It raised awareness about the importance to have drug development strategy acceleration. One of the drug development methods is drug repurposing. The urge for a deeper review of this method will be discussed in this article. The research method was reviewer literature that describes the terminology, the use of drug repurposing in cancer, COVID-19 and other diseases therapies and also the advantages to using drug repurposing method in drug development. The results showed some similar terms in drug repurposings such as drug repositioning, drug reprofiling, and drug rediscovery that makes drug repurposing preferred for old drug in new indication. Drug repurposing for anticancer are thiotepa, doxorubicine, gemcitabine, and raloxifene. Drug repurposing for COVID-19 are dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, sarilumab, heparine, enoxasaparine, rivaroxabane, and fondaparinux. The other uses are zidovudine, minoxidil, sildenafile, rituximab, and ketoconazole. The advantages from this method are higher time and cost-efficiency. Hesitance, drug therapy with drug repurposing method should be a priority for drug development nowadays.

Abstract

In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. As a result, elementary school learning was primarily conducted online. However, in January 2022, the Government of Indonesia announced that limited face-to-face meetings in schools could be conducted due to the vaccination of elementary school students. Nevertheless, these meetings are still subject to health protocols, including wearing masks. This study aims to examine the types and brands of masks used, as well as elementary school students' knowledge regarding the layers of masks and sources of information on mask usage during limited face-to-face meetings. The research utilized a descriptive method and cross-sectional study design. The sample was obtained through purposive sampling of elementary school students in the Jabodetabek area, with a total of 408 students included in the study. Univariate data analysis was performed using SPSS 25 to describe the observed results. The findings indicate that the three most used types of masks were duckbill masks (33%), medical masks (25%), and KF94 masks (21%). The two highest response groups reported that 41.4% of respondents believed the masks to consist of only one layer, while the other 35% believed they consisted of three layers. The most used mask brands are those produced in China. Teachers and parents are the primary sources of knowledge regarding the use of masks among elementary school students. According to the study's findings, there is a strong correlation between the information received and the use of masks by these students.

Abstract

Liver cancer is a serious health concern characterized by abnormal cell growth, but currently, available treatment options are limited, suggesting the need for a new therapeutic method. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the potential of chemical compounds obtained from the cangkring plant (Erythrina fusca) as anti-liver cancer agents targeting Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2 (VEGFR-2). The investigation was conducted in silico through molecular docking and dynamic method. Molecular docking was performed using AutoDock Tools, followed by visualization with Biovia Discovery Studio. Additionally, molecular dynamics simulation was conducted using GROMACS software and visualized with Grace. A total of 36 chemical compounds from E. fusca were used as ligands for molecular docking. The results showed that Isobavachalcone (ISB) was the most effective test compound with a binding energy of -11.45 kcal/mol, compared to the positive control Sorafenib with a value of - 11.51 kcal/mol. In this context, hydrogen bonding, as well as hydrophobic, electrostatic, and unfavorable molecular interactions were identified. Moreover, molecular dynamics simulation provided RMSD, RMSF, Radius of Gyration (Rg), and hydrogen bond parameters. Analysis of these parameters further confirmed the superior stability of ISB in binding to VEGFR-2, suggesting the potential to suppress angiogenesis by blocking the receptor.
