Abstract

United States as the victim of 9/11 tragedy launch the Global War on Terror to combat global terrorism and to secure its national security. Sahel as a region passed by the Sahara Dessert is becoming a place to hide, recruit, financing and training camp for global terrorist network. The rise of terrorist network in the Sahel cannot be separated from Sahel States condition which been categorized as least developed countries. To counter the rise of terrorist threat in the Sahel Region. United States deploy its military forces in Niger. This research analyzes and describe the objective of United States military deployment in Niger, especially from 2013 until 2017. This research used security and counterterrorism framework to explain the objective of United States military deployment in Niger. Methodology that used in this research is qualitative-descriptive. Data in this research were gathers from multiple sources such as book, journal, and government reports that related with this research. Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper seeks to explain the reason behind China’s decision to ban plastic waste import in 2018. China’s import on plastic waste were increasing significantly since 200 Within ten year since 2006, China imported half of world’s plastic waste. China’s recycling industry turned plastic waste into synthetic fiber called polyester. However, since 2018 China decided to ban plastic waste import. This research is analyzed using qualitative research methodology with secondary data collection focusing on state level analysis. This paper refers to two conceptual frameworks, which are rational choice actor and environmental security. The findings on this research leads to a conclusion that explains China’s decision is based on its profit calculation from textile industry and plastic waste recycling. Abstract

ABSTRACT The Chagos Archipelago is one of the British territories in the Indian Ocean and play a role in safeguarding the security interests of Britain in the region. The British government in safeguarding its security interests in the Chagos Islands has designated the archipelago as a no-take Marine Protected Area (MPA). This was done to safeguard the security interests of a joint military bases between Britain and the United States. The military base is located on one of the islands in the Chagos Islands named Diego Garcia. Britain's decision to establish the Chagos Archipelago as a no-take MPA was taken after protests from indigenous people of the Chagos Islands and Mauritius who wanted to return to their territory. This study analyzes the security interests of British in protecting its military bases by implementing environmental policies. The Theoritical Framework used in this study is National Security and Military-Environmentalism. Keywords: Marine Protected Area, military base, national security, military environmentalism

Abstract

ABSTRACT The issue of spying has an important role in the dynamics of two countries. There were incident of the arrested Russian spies in United States. The arrested Russian spies incident happenedwhenRussia and the United States build the cooperation in economic and military. Russia's decision to accept the United States offer helps improve the country's image. Russia also wants to save the economic and military cooperation that just begin with the United States. This study analyzes the influence of Russia's image in foreign policy. This research has a span of time between 2005-2010. Research data is collected from various sources of network sites and scientific research relating to this research. The concepts usedin this researchareespionage, image, and foreign policy.This study focuses on Russia's decision to accept United States offers of spy swap to build an image and continue the cooperation that has been established. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to describe what is the reason for Hungary has built a border barrier in the border region using descriptive qualitative methods. Hungary, which is a member state of the European Union, facing a contemporary security threat, which is the flow of immigrants. To cope with this issues, Hungary issued a physical development policy in the form of a border barrier. Although it did not get funding from the European Union in the process of building the border barrier, Hungary continued to carry out the construction process.Therefore, researchers use the framework of immigrant as a contemporary security threat and border barrier as a foreign policy to answer what is the reason for the construction of the border fences in the border region. Abstract

This qualitative research aims to describe the Chinese Government’s effort to resolve opium trafficking through the Opium Substitution Program in North Myanmar from 2005 to 2010. The author perceives the problem of opium trafficking on the border of China and Myanmar has influenced the Chinese Government to make an effort through the implementation of alternative development models which is applied to the opium substitution program. The opium substitution program is implemented through bilateral cooperation in Shan and Kachin areas of Northern Myanmar. The author finds that the opium substitution program is a sustainable long-term program with the aim of building local people's economy in the territory of North Myanmar that is adjusted to the social, cultural, and economic characteristics of local communities. Opium substitution program has been implemented by the Chinese Government through the provision of training and agricultural assistance for former opium farmers, as well as the implementation of agricultural investment schemes in North Myanmar. Abstract

ABSTRAK This research explained Timor Leste’s strategy on hoisting Batek Island ownership issue which is used to gain advantages in negotiation of southern sea border, which is Block Greaater Sunrsie. Qualitative method was used as a means to collect secondary data through the documentation and literature study. Aftewards, all of the secondary data was analysed by using foreign policy theory, concept of national interest and also concept of power to explain the reson behind Timor Leste’s hoisting the ownership issue of Batek Island issue based on intentions to gain one of natural source of power, which is natural resources. By getting that power sources, that’s closely related to the national interest of Timor Leste, that is to pursuit their state survival. Abstract

This research aims to describe the causes of ASEAN’s failure in making the Code of Conduct for South China Sea dispute during the period of 2002-2012 by using the concept of international organization’s weaknesses and influence of external actor. The above-mentioned dispute involves four ASEAN member states; there are Vietnam, The Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and China, which is not an ASEAN member state. This research perceives that the failure of ASEAN in making Code of Conduct is influenced by internal and external factors. By using qualitative method, the author found that there are three internal factors that challenge ASEAN, namely different national interest among member states, decision-making process based on consensus, and weak dispute settlement mechanism. The external factors are economic relations between ASEAN and China, China’s persuasion efforts to ASEAN, and China’s ability to prevail strategy towards Cambodia. Abstract

The increasing demand of the world market for Indian cotton, made the Indian Government issued a policy regulating the production, distribution, and management of cotton seeds called the Seed Bill Act 2004. After the implementation of Seed Bill Act 2004, problems arose directly related to the life of Indian cotton farmers. The Seed Bill Act 2004 is considered do not reflect the interest of Indian cotton farmers. This study analyzes the phenomenon through the response of cotton farmers after the implementation of the Seed Bill Act 2004. This study was analyzed by qualitative descriptive method and also using public policy and Intermestic concept. The data in this study were obtained from various sources such as books, journals, and other sources directly related to this research. The tempus of the study is the years 2004 - 2010. This research found that the obligation of seed certification and the inclusion of GMO seeds in the Seed Bill Act 2004 gave the bad impact on the social and economic life of cotton farmers that resulting respons up to form mass suicide. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to describe Japan’s attempts in accomplishing their economic interest through investation in Myanmar by using qualitative method. Japan encounters the declining human resource which causing labour shortage. This phenomenon leads Japan’s manufacturers to a major bankruptcy. Through Japan’s cooperation with Myanmar, Japan aims to expand their manufacturing companies in Myanmar in order to gain Myanmar’s labour force. However, there’s a large gap between the skill of Japan and Myanmar’s human resource. The researcher uses the concept of Foreign Policy and Infrastructure Investment as the framework. This research perceives that infrastructure investment impacting the skill of human resources and helps the expansion of Japan’s manufacturers in Myanmar.
