Abstract

This research aims to elaborate the characteristics of the Qur’anic manuscript of Dolah Bakri (MADB) by using philology and historical analysis. In its chronicle history, it shows that MADB appeared in Wonolelo in the 19th century. The use of paper, the technique of writing, the layout and illumination show its character as a mushaf born with the nuances of Javanese locality. In addition, when his contemporaries used mixed rasm, ‘Uthma}ni} and imla}’i}, MADB consistently used the rasm ‘uthma}ni}. From the social context, in Wonolelo, MADB was not merely as a Qur’anic mushaf which is used as a medium of reading for local Muslim community, but it had social and economic function as well. MADB could be a symbol of an economic power of its owner. MADB could also be a symbol of the integration of Islamic movement and social class identity of economic society.

Abstract

A Woman’s Right to Marry without a Guardian According to Imam Syafi’i and Imam Ja’Fari To marry without a guardian and the issue of the marriage guardian are legal marriage issues that always  arouse debate among Muslims. In classical literature, “it seems” women do not have the right to marry without a guardian. This paper examines whether women have the right to marry without a guardian and the  issue of guardians. This matter not explained explicitly or in detail by the Prophet resulting in a multiplicity  of interpretations. Religious leaders and schools of thought, as well as the State, discuss and examine these issues from a variety of perspectives. This paper explains the view of Imam Shafi’i and Iman Ja’fari, based on content analysis ond library-based research. This study looks firstly at patterns of thought and socio-cultural life according to Imam Shafi’i and Imam Ja’fari. Secondly, it discusses their views on the women’s right to marry without a guardian. Lastly, it explores the implications of their thought on the practice of women marrying without a guardian in Indonesia.

Abstract

The historical traces of the spread of Islam throughout the archipelago cannot be separated from the existence of ancient manuscripts, which are one of Indonesia's assets. This paper discusses the study of manuscripts in the form of mushafs of the Qur'an in a village in Jombang district, namely Rejoagung Village. The problem that will be answered in this article is regarding the physical characteristics of the manuscripts of the Al-Qur'an in Rejoagung Village and the idiosyncratic aspects of their textology. Some of the things that the author will examine are the forms of rasm, dabt, and the verse numbering system. The method used is the single manuscript method with critical editions in the study of ancient manuscripts. The result of this research is that this manuscript has a different idiosyncratic style from the Mushaf Al-Qur'an manuscripts in Indonesia. Rasm used is a mixture of usmani and imla'i. The verse termination system does not adhere to a Kufah school of thought, which is familiar in the copying of the Qur'an in the archipelago. This shows that the copyist applied idiosyncrasy in the process of copying. Follow-up research is needed to obtain a description of the different patterns of the process of copying the Al-Qur'an mushaf from various ancient manuscripts spread across Nusantara.

Abstract

The Introduction to gender and their respective roles is crucial from an early age. Islam does not differentiate between the roles of women and men. The continuity of the relationship between men and women must be maintained within the corridor of Islamic law without gender intimidation. This article aims to build gender partnership in Era 5.0 based on the Qur'an, Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 13, and Surah Al-An'am, verse 165. Thus, understanding gender partnerships can be one way to address gender disparities, enhance well-being, and improve Human Resources (HR) quality. The research method used in this article is qualitative research in the form of a literature review based on sources such as books, articles, and works discussing gender partnerships. Data collection methods are conducted through a literature review of data obtained from various sources. The primary data sources are the Qur'an, Surah Al-Hujurat, and Al-An'am. From the study's results, it can be concluded that gender partnership means a condition where there is mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation with the different attitudes and strengths of the opposite sex. In efforts to build gender partnership in Era 5.0 according to the perspective of the Qur'an, Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 13, and Surah Al-An'am, verse 165, it is crucial to establish equal and humane rights for both women and men. This entails fully guaranteeing the rights of each gender and treating them well. Efforts to build gender partnerships include understanding and recognizing that men and women have different characteristics, paying attention to the gender division of labor, fostering good collaboration and coordination, mutual respect and non-discrimination, and offering differences in strategic needs for each gender.  Abstrak: Pengenalan gender dan tugas masing-masing penting dimulai sejak dini. Abstract

This article addresses the critical need for the preservation of Qur’anic manuscripts, focusing on the role of media transfer or digitization in safeguarding these valuable artifacts. The paper explores two main questions: the most effective preservation methods for ancient manuscripts and the contribution of mobile-based applications in disseminating information about these heritage objects. A qualitative research approach, combining philological and facsimile methods, was employed. The research focused on Qur’anic manuscripts held by individual collectors and pesantrens in the East Java region. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman technique, involving stages of data arrangement, organization, and categorization. The findings revealed that mobile-based applications offer an efficient and cost-effective solution for preserving Qur’anic manuscripts, which are in deteriorating conditions. More than ten manuscripts observed in this study face inadequate storage and maintenance conditions. The development of the MAQDA digital application is a strategic and practical step for preserving these manuscripts. The study also emphasizes the need to make privately held manuscripts publicly accessible, raising awareness about the importance of preserving tangible cultural heritage. This paper contributes to the field of manuscript conservation, preservation, and digitization, highlighting the urgent need to safeguard numerous manuscripts, other than Qur’anic texts that are at risk and remain in private hands without infringing on ownership rights.

Abstract

The tradition of wedding receptions created a new tradition in the art of reading the Qur'an. The Qur'an is recited at weddings with different rhythms. This difference is important to study. The purpose of the study was to determine the type of rhythm of the song recited by the qori at the wedding, the correlation between the theme of the wedding, the meaning of the verses of the Qur'an, and the rhythm of the recitation, as well as the response of the reciter and mustamik in the event. This research is qualitative research using field research for two months. The theory of ethnomusicology becomes a reference for the answers to the existing questions. The rhythm of the song at the wedding: ijᾱz, Rast, Sikᾱ,Nahᾱwand, Bayyᾱtī with various variations. The theme of the wedding ceremony focuses on verses that are following the meaning of the verses of the Qur'an about marriage, and the meaning of the verses of the Qur'an affect the reciter in reciting the verses of the Qur'an. Abstract

This article aims to critically examines the distinction between the Qur’an and Hadith in response to John Wansbrough’s revisionist-skeptical perspective on the origins of the Qur’an. Wansbrough argued that both corpora emerged from the same “sectarian” milieu and developed within a nearly identical historical timeframe. The present study addresses two primary questions: how Fred M. Donner conceptualizes the distinction between the Qur’an and Hadith, and how his arguments challenge Wansbrough’s theoretical framework. Employing a qualitative methodology with a descriptive-analytical approach, this research analyzes the principal works of both scholars to compare their arguments from textual and historical perspectives. The findings indicate that Wansbrough’s thesis lacks a robust historical foundation, as six key aspects religious and political authority, portrayals of the Prophet’s contemporaries, elements of anachronism, narratives of earlier prophets, depictions of Prophet Muhammad, and descriptions of ritual prayer reveal significant differences between the Qur’an and Hadith. These results support the conclusion that the Qur’an did not originate from the same sectarian environment as the Hadith but emerged in an earlier and distinct historical context. Consequently, the Qur’an is understood to have preceded the Hadith both chronologically and in terms of codification. This article contributes to clarifying the independence and authenticity of the Qur’an as the earliest and primary source of Islamic teaching, while enriching textual-historical scholarship in response to Western revisionist discourse concerning the origins of Islamic scripture.
