Abstract

Cancer is not only a health problem for adults; it is also a major health problem for children. The pediatric oncology polyclinic in Riau Province, particularly in Pekanbaru City, recorded 1,918 cancer patients. Generally, cancer sufferers are more closed to themselves, withdraw from the environment, and reject what has happened to them, so that most cancer sufferers surrender, lose motivation, and lose self-confidence. Empathic communication can help cancer survivors motivate, understand, and understand their feelings and attitudes, as well as their hopes and desires for the future. As a result, parental empathic communication is required. The purpose of this study was to determine the empathic communication between parents and children with cancer at YKAKI Pekanbaru. This study involved three informants who were parents of children with cancer and one support respondent. Methods of data collection using interviews, observations, and documentation techniques The results of this study indicate that empathetic communication between parents and children can take the form of prioritizing communication, providing motivation to children, showing patience and sincerity, influencing children's responses, and growing a sense of comfort in children. All findings from this study show forms of empathic communication between parents and children with cancer at YKAKI Pekanbaru City.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a neurological disorder and a serious type of mental illness that affects the patient's perception, thinking, language, emotions, and social behavior. Communicating with individuals suffering from schizophrenia requires special techniques because they tend to experience self-concept issues, immerse themselves in their own world, and exhibit physical well-being but mental unhealthiness. Effective communication with schizophrenia patients necessitates skilled nursing techniques and the ability to communicate effectively. From the perspective of communication science, the relationship between the nurse and the patient falls under interpersonal communication, or from the standpoint of health communication, it is therapeutic communication. The communication between the nurse and the patient creates interpersonal interaction using linguistic symbol systems, such as verbal and nonverbal systems. This study aims to describe and analyze interpersonal communication between nurses and Schizophrenia patients at Rumah Sakit Jiwa in the Riau Province. The research utilizes a case study method. The results show that the interpersonal communication used by nurses with schizophrenia patients at Tampan Mental Hospital in the Riau Province involves empathy, positive attention, and sincere acceptance demonstrated through both verbal and nonverbal forms. This fosters trust and openness in patients towards nurses, ultimately contributing to the improvement of schizophrenia patients' healing process.

Abstract

Self-concept is an individual's view and attitude towards oneself. Self-view is related to physical dimensions, individual characteristics, and self-motivation. The purpose of this study was to determine the self-concept of Generation Z users of the Tik Tok application in Rokan Hulu Regency. This study uses the theory of Looking Glass Self with three indicators as an analytical. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method by interviewing 5 informants, namely Generation Z with an age range of 11 to 23 years. The data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the self-concept of Generation Z in Rokan Hulu Regency is a Positive Self-Concept. This study reveals that Generation Z in Rokan Hulu Regency uses the tiktok platform as a tool to gain fame by going viral on social media, becoming an effective promotional media. The perceived self-reflection included the satisfaction of receiving a positive response, receiving praise fairly, accepting criticism and suggestions openly, and wanting to improve themselves with a better collar.

Abstract

Trash talking, as a form of cyberbullying, is often found in internet gaming cafes such as White Wolf Arena and refers to harmful actions such as insinuating, insulting or verbally abusing other players. This phenomenon occurs through voice or text messaging features in anonymous virtual communication, triggering negative behaviours such as trolling and AFK. The vocabulary of Trash talking includes animal words, adjectives, objects, conditions, and human organs. This study aims to analyse the Trash talking behaviour of Valorant players using a descriptive qualitative method with seven purposively selected informants. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, and analysed using the Miles and Huberman technique with data triangulation. The results showed that Trash talking behaviour is influenced by sociopsychological and situational factors. The communication media used include voice chat, text chat, and stickers, where the detection system is more effective on text. Virtual communication showed varied Trash talking vocabulary and different levels of offensiveness between voice chat and text. This research identified behaviour, media and virtual communication as the main aspects of Trash talking in Valorant.

Abstract

The Doa Padang Tradition is a cultural heritage or tradition carried out by the community of Padang Kunik Village, Pangean District, Kuantan Singingi Regency. The purpose of this research is to analyze the communicative situation, communicative events, and communicative action related to the Doa Padang tradition. This type of research uses a qualitative method accompanied by a communication ethnography approach. There were seven informants in this study, consisting of the Village Head, Village Officials, Tuo Banjar, Farmers or community members, youth and young women. The results of the research show that the communicative situation in the Doa Padang tradition consists of the location where the tradition is carried out. Communicative events in the Doa Padang tradition include the type of event, event topic, massage from, massage content, sequence of actions, interaction rules, and interpretation norms in this tradition. The communicative actions of the Doa Padang tradition consist of verbal messages and non-verbal messages. Keywords: Etnography of Communication, Doa Padang Tradition, Kuantan Singingi Tradition

Abstract

Masyarakat Kampung Bali di Desa Jambai Makmur Kecamatan Kandis memiliki sebuah tradisi unik yakni ritual yadnya sesa yang dilakukan setiap hari selesai memasak di pagi hari dan sebelum menikmati makanan tersebut. Upaya menganalisis makna interpretasi dalam ritual yadnya sesa merupakan tujuan utama dari penelitian ini. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, metode yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi secara langsung, wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi. Riset ini menemukan bahwa makna interpretasi ritual yadnya sesa berhubungan dengan tindakan komunikasi pada individu pelaku ritual yadnya sesa saat melaksanakan ritual yadnya sesa. Tindakan tersebut meliputi tindakan terbuka dan tindakan tertutup. Tindakan tertutup meliputi motivasi pelaku ritual yadnya sesa yakni sebagai wujud rasa syukur atas nikmat yang telah diberikan Tuhan kepada manusia dengan perasaan bahagia dalam menjalankan kewajiban sebagaia warisan dari para leluhur. Tindakan terbuka yakni ekspresi wajah yang ditampilkan pelaku ritual yadnya sesa pada saat pelaksanaan tradisi yaitu dengan ekspresi wajah bahagia dan penuh senyuman.

Abstract

Communication activities in the Information and Communication Technology are progressing very rapidly and the use of the internet is increasing every year. Technological advances require public relations to shift from conventional to modern. Many social media developments are increasingly like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Tiktok and others. Public Relations of Abdurrab University is one that utilizes Digital Public Relations to provide information and increase the value and reputation of the University. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of the application of Abdurrab University Digital Public Relations in managing the @univrab . Instagram media account. The main theory used in this research is Phillips & Young's Online Public Relations which consists of Transparency, Internet Porosity, Internet as an Agent, Richness in Content and Reach. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection methods interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that Abdurrab University's public relations have implemented Digital Public Relations seen from the context of the @univrab Instagram account in publicly open posts, anticipate accounts, use various kinds of social media and conduct outreach interactions to the public. Digital Public Relations needs to maximize Philips and Young's online theory to broaden the reach of interaction as well as make referrals in finding information.

Abstract

Kuda Lumping is a traditional art form originating from Java, combining elements of dance, music, and drama while using woven attributes shaped like horses. This art contains symbolic meanings embedded in the attributes and movements. However, in the Kuda Lumping Pangeran Kuda Putih performance in Desa Perkebunan Kanopan Ulu, Kecamatan Kualuh Hulu, there have been changes in the procession and attributes used, including the removal of some attributes due to certain factors. This study aims to analyze the symbolic meanings found in the situation, social interaction, and interpretation of this art form. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method with Herbert Blumer’s symbolic interaction theory as the theoretical framework. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, with six purposively selected informants. Data validity was ensured through method and source triangulation. The results indicate that the symbolic situation meanings in the Kuda Lumping Pangeran Kuda Putih performance consist of physical objects, namely the attributes used in the performance, and social objects, such as mantras and movements performed. The meanings of social interaction products vary among the older generation, the youth, and the performers. Interpretation meanings include open actions, which are directly observable expressions of the artists, and hidden actions, which are not directly visible and not fully recognized by others. Abstract

The rapid growth of digitalization has made digital marketing crucial for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). However, many MSMEs in Siak Regency have not fully utilized digital marketing strategies, limiting their market competitiveness. This community service aims to enhance digital marketing skills among MSMEs through training and mentoring. The method used is a participatory approach, providing training on digital literacy, social media usage, and e-commerce platforms. Continuous mentoring ensures that participants can apply the strategies learned to their business activities. The results of this community service show a significant improvement in digital marketing skills among participants, contributing to increased sales and market reach of MSMEs. Additionally, active participation in training and support from academics fostered a more adaptable business ecosystem towards technological changes. Thus, this program successfully helped MSMEs in Siak Regency become more competitive in both local and national markets.

Abstract

Konten menjadi salah satu cara paling efektif dalam menyampaikan pesan kepada khalayak. Konten memainkan peranan penting dalam memenuhi kebutuhan akan informasi khalayak. Pembuatan konten konten digital tersebut dapat menjadi cara kreatif untuk meningkatkan dan mendorong sumber daya yang ada di masyarakat. Seperti desa Dayun yang pada tahun 2022 menjadi percontohan desa kreatif Nasional. Kementerian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi kreatif dalam programnya desa kreatif telah memilih Desa Dayun sebagai desa percontohan. Tingginya potensi Desa Dayun di siak ini membuat pengabdian yang akan dilakukan menjadi relevan karena dalam upaya pengembangan program pemberdayaan masyarakat ekonomi kreatif tentu akan menghadapi beberapa tantangan. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi digital seperti pembuatan konten kreatif. Tim pengabdian dari Universitas Riau akan turun untuk membantu memberikan solusi bagaimana membuat konten dari pemanfaatan media digital sehingga dapat membantu masyarakat desa Dayun dalam meningkatkan visibilitas, memperluas jangkauan pasar, dan meningkatkan penjualan. Penggunaan literasi digital dan platform seperti Canva dan Capcut. Kegiatan pengabdian ini akan menghasilkan luaran berupa publikasi artikel dalam jurnal akreditasi nasional Sinta 6, publikasi kegiatan pengabdian pada media online, video dokumentasi kegiatan yang dipublikasikan pada youtube fakultas, dan laporan akhir pengabdian. Diharapkan bahwa kegiatan pengabdian ini akan membantu Masyarakat di Desa Dayun Kabupaten Siak dapat mengubah ekonomi lokal dan berkontribusi pada pembangunan berkelanjutan. Dengan meningkatkan kapasitas dan keterampilan digital mereka, Masyarakat tidak hanya akan mampu bersaing di pasar lokal dan nasional, tetapi juga akan membantu menciptakan lapangan kerja baru dan meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat setempat lainnya. Pada akhirnya, tujuan dari program ini adalah untuk membangun ekosistem masyarakat ekonomi kreatif yang dapat membantu pertumbuhan ekonomi Kabupaten Siak dalam jangka panjang
