Abstract

Background: Nutritional status is an indicator of growth, and the first two years of a child's life should be closely observed because it is a critical period for development. Failure to grow during this period will affect nutritional status. Many factors affect a child's nutritional status, including sociodemographic factors and patterns of complementary feeding of breast milk. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the influence of sociodemographic factors and patterns of complementary feeding on the nutritional status of children under two years old in coastal areas of North Sumatra. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional approach involving 212 mother-child pairs aged 6-23 months in Pantai Labu District. Data collection involved structured questionnaires and interviews covering family characteristics, initial food introduction, breastfeeding status, and child age. Nutritional status was assessed through child length and weight measurements. Multiple logistic regression tests were conducted for multivariate analysis, and bivariate tests using chi-square. Results: The results showed that there was an influence of maternal knowledge (p-value=0.008; OR=2.678), maternal education (p-value=0.005; OR=2.807), and economic status (p-value=0.0001) on children's nutritional status. Most mothers (78.8%) provided timely complementary feeding and maintained hygienic practices (81.1%). Despite this, 15-20% of children exhibited poor nutritional status across weight-for-age, length-for-age, and weight-for-length indicators. Conclusions: Children's nutritional status in coastal areas is significantly influenced by sociodemographic factors. Integrated interventions targeting maternal capabilities and family economic conditions are crucial for improving child nutrition.

Abstract

Anemia pada remaja putri merupakan masalah kesehatan yang serius, terutama dalam kaitannya dengan kesiapan prakonsepsi dan kualitas kesehatan reproduksi. Prevalensi anemia di Desa Bandar Labuhan mencapai 32%, lebih tinggi dibandingkan angka nasional sebesar 15,5%. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan ibu-ibu PKK dalam mengolah daun kelor menjadi jajanan sehat bagi remaja putri sebagai upaya pencegahan anemia. Metode yang digunakan adalah pelatihan partisipatif dengan pendekatan pemberdayaan masyarakat yang melibatkan 24 ibu PKK sebagai peserta. Program dilaksanakan melalui empat tahap, yaitu sosialisasi, penyuluhan, pelatihan praktik pengolahan daun kelor, dan pendampingan. Produk yang dihasilkan meliputi keripik daun kelor, dimsum kelor, stik ikan kelor, kue kering senyum, puding kelor, dan minuman segar kelor. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan peserta mengenai manfaat dan kandungan gizi daun kelor, serta peningkatan keterampilan dalam mengolah produk pangan berbasis kelor. Selain itu, terjadi perubahan persepsi masyarakat terhadap daun kelor, dari yang sebelumnya hanya dimanfaatkan sebagai sayur bening menjadi bahan pangan bergizi yang memiliki nilai ekonomi. Program ini menyimpulkan bahwa pemberdayaan ibu-ibu PKK efektif dalam meningkatkan pemanfaatan daun kelor sebagai alternatif pencegahan anemia pada remaja putri. Untuk keberlanjutan program, disarankan adanya pemantauan berkala serta pengembangan usaha mikro berbasis produk olahan daun kelor.

Abstract

This study used cross-sectional data from the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey to examine vitamin A supplementation, dietary diversification, and stunting in North Sumatra, including a group of 7,973 children aged 6–23 months. The results indicated that 62.7% of the youngsters took vitamin A and 39.4% had diversified diets. Multivariate analysis indicated that children lacking vitamin A supplementation were associated with a 1.43-fold increased proportion of stunting (CI: 1.27-1.61), and children with non-diverse diets had a 1.21 times higher risk (CI: 1.10-1.37). Regional stratification analysis revealed that a lack of vitamin A supplementation in rural areas increased the risk of stunting by a higher factor (OR: 1.49; CI: 1.25-1.78) in cities (OR: 1.38; CI: 1.18-1.61). The impact of dietary diversity on stunting was more substantial in rural areas (OR: 1.28; CI: 1.07-1.53) compared than in urban areas (OR: 1.15; CI: 0.98-1.35). The results recommend improving program coverage and nutrition education to account for local differences.

Abstract

Rata-rata persentase kecukupan energi pada baduta di Desa Wonosari masih rendah yaitu 76,5% dari AKG usia 6-11 bulan dan hanya 28,4% dari AKG baduta 12-23 bulan. Problem nutrients pada kelompok usia 6-11 bulan adalah zat besi dengan tipe absolut sedangkan problem nutrients pada usia 12-23 bulan adalah asam folat dengan tipe absolut. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan ibu baduta tentang PMBA dan gizi seimbang berbasis pangan lokal. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Puskesmas Pembantu Desa Wonosari, Kecamatan Tanjung Morawa, Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Tahapan kegiatan meliputi penjajakan lokasi, sosialisasi, kordinasi pelaksanaan kegiatan, pembuatan media edukasi dan pelaksanaan edukasi. Hasil evaluasi pelaksanaan kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan ibu baduta mengenai PMBA dan gizi seimbang berbasis pangan lokal. Selain itu, hampir seluruh ibu baduta telah terampil dalam mengaplikasikan gizi seimbang berdasarkan hasil praktek mandiri tentang jenis dan jumlah setiap kelompok bahan pangan dalam hidangan sekali makan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the patterns of fastfood consumption, nutritional status, and prevalence of anemia among female students in the Nutrition Department of Poltekkes Medan. An observational method with a cross-sectional design was used on 73 female students. Data on the frequency of fastFood consumption was collected using a semi-quantitative FFQ, nutritional status was assessed based on BMI, and hemoglobin levels were measured using the Cyanmethemoglobin method. The results showed that 45.20% of respondents frequently consumed fast food, with an obesity prevalence of 35.70% and anemia prevalence of 35.60%. There was a significant relationship between fast food consumption and nutritional status (p=0.042), but not with anemia status (p=0.540). In conclusion high fastfood consumption correlates with obesity and anemia. Efforts are needed to increase the availability of healthy food on campus and further research on the long-term impact of ast Food consumption on student health.
