Abstract

This research explores the empowerment process for women former migrant workers through community-based education in the Desa Peduli Buruh Migran (DESBUMI) community in Jember Regency, Indonesia. It aims to examine community-based empowerment concepts and strategies to inform policies supporting women former migrant workers. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were gathered through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, followed by analysis through data reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings outline three empowerment stages: awareness, capacity building, and empowerment. In capacity building, an experiential learning cycle is used, tailored to the potential and needs of these women. Community interactions foster collective learning and mutual support, enhancing knowledge, skills, participation, and economic independence among former migrant workers. Additionally, the DESBUMI community provides a strategic platform for promoting local economic development. The research concludes that community-based education effectively strengthens both individual capacity and social networks, suggesting this model as a viable framework for empowering women in similar migrant worker communities across Indonesia.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) emerged as a leading online learning platform, providing essential support for educational institutions transitioning to remote learning. However, its role as a supplementary tool alongside traditional teaching methods in non-pandemic contexts remains underexplored in academic research. This study aims to investigate the attitudes of higher education student-teachers toward Moodle as an asynchronous online learning platform that enhances traditional classroom learning. The research employed a descriptive-quantitative method, focusing on students from the Teacher Training and Education Faculty, specifically those in the Elementary School Teacher Education Department at Universitas Tanjungpura, Indonesia. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, targeting individuals with experience using Moodle in online and offline learning environments. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire to assess student-teacher attitudes toward Moodle. It underwent a rigorous validation process to ensure the instrument's validity, including expert reviews. The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed through a pilot test conducted with 25 elementary school student-teachers from a state university. The results indicate that most student-teachers have positive attitudes toward Moodle, particularly valuing its effectiveness in enhancing their traditional learning experiences. Despite these favorable views, further research is necessary to develop a more comprehensive understanding of Moodle as a learning management system. Future studies should explore a broader range of educational contexts and levels to better understand the diverse challenges and benefits of applying Moodle in different teaching environments.

Abstract

Traditional games are culturally rich educational tools that support children's cognitive and social development. However, the increasing dominance of modern technology and online games has led children to neglect these heritage-based activities. To address this issue, this study aimed to develop a guidebook to help parents reintroduce traditional games to early childhood in a structured and engaging way. This research employed the Research and Development (RD) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation phases. The study was conducted at Posyandu Pandan Wangi, Pandan Lagan Village, Jambi Province. The guidebook was validated through product trials involving 1 material expert, 1 media expert, 5 posyandu cadres, and 30 parents. Validation results showed that the guidebook received high feasibility scores: 48 from the material expert, 68 from the media expert, and 97 from the posyandu cadres, all classified as “very feasible.” Additionally, an effectiveness test conducted with parents showed a significant improvement in knowledge about traditional games, with an N-Gain score of 89.67%, indicating a high level of effectiveness (75%). The study concludes that the guidebook is both feasible and effective as a learning medium for parents to promote traditional games to young children. Future applications of this guidebook in broader communities are recommended to help preserve cultural heritage and encourage educational play among children.

Abstract

This research aims to explore local language revitalization strategies as a pathway to children's participation within the Child-Friendly Village framework from a non-formal education perspective. Using a qualitative approach with the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method, this research involved 17 participants consisting of volunteers, community leaders, and parents, with data collection through focus group discussions, participatory mapping, and observation. The research results show that the local language revitalization strategy is implemented through participatory learning, the use of local languages in social spaces such as mosques and community activity centers, and children's activities based on outbound activities. As a result of this strategy, social identity is strengthened, communication accessibility is increased, and children's involvement in village decision-making is encouraged. However, challenges such as language shift, social stigma, and media limitations persist. In effect, this research confirms that integrating local language revitalization into non-formal education practices and village policies can be an important means of strengthening children's participation while maintaining the sustainability of local culture.

Abstract

The digital era has presented significant challenges and opportunities for teaching professionals, particularly in underserved areas. This study aims to examine the adaptation of educator professionalism to curriculum transformation, the integration of learning technology, and socio-cultural dynamics through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The analysis process involved identifying, selecting, and synthesising 136 studies from the database, using specific inclusion criteria, over the past 10 years. The results indicate that teachers in marginalised areas face infrastructure constraints, digital literacy issues, a lack of ongoing training, and socio-cultural challenges that affect curriculum implementation, technology utilisation, and character building. The findings also reveal the role of teachers as mediators between the formal curriculum and local values, as well as the importance of adaptive policy support and learning communities to enhance learning effectiveness. This study provides critical insights into contextual professional development strategies that are responsive to regional heterogeneity, with implications for improving the quality of education in the digital era.

Abstract

This research aims to (1) describe of forest farmers empowerment, (2) analyze changes in forest farmers behavior in management and preserving forest ecosystems as a result of empowerment activities, and (3) analyze the contribution of local resource-based empowerment to increasing the income and economic independence of forest farmers. This research used a qualitative method with a case study approach involving forest farmers on the slopes of Mount Arjuno in Dayurejo Village, Prigen District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java, specifically the Forest Farmer Group (KTH) under the auspices of the Loka Jaya Binangun Village Forest Management Institution (LPHD). Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and participant observation, while secondary data were collected through document analysis. Data validity was ensured through triangulation. Data validity was ensured through triangulation by collecting data from different sources and at different times. The data were processed and analyzed by grouping and integrating predetermined categories, which were then described and interpreted to draw conclusions. The results indicate that first, forest farmer empowerment in forest management emphasizes informal and participatory approaches, such as direct field practice, group discussions, community service activities, and experiential learning, rather than instructive and formalistic methods. Second, Behavioral change occurs effectively through a gradual process involving direct experience, collective practice, and learning based on real-life needs, transforming forest farmers’ perspectives and behaviors from passive and short-term forest management toward active, planned, and sustainability-oriented forest management. Third, environmental awareness is developed through lived experiences rather than coercive regulations. This contextual empowerment approach grows organically through shared practice and field-based learning, making the model adaptive to the local social-ecological context and the dynamics of cooperation among stakeholders, while maintaining the forest farmer group as the central actor in forest management.
