Abstract

The study is aimed to find out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and student’s English interest  toward student’s English achievement of the second grade students of SMPN 3 Sukoharjo; both partially and simultaneously. This study used a test, a questionnaire, and a documentation to collect the data. The population of the study is all of the second grade students while the sample is 50 students taken by cluster random sampling technique. The techniques used to analyze the data are simple and multiple correlation and regression by using SPSS 17. The results of the study show that there is a positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and student’s English interest toward student’s English achievement, both partially and simultaneously. The positive correlation indicates that vocabulary mastery and student’s English interest tend to go up or to go down together with student’s English achievement.

Abstract

This article refers to an experimental research about the effectiveness of Practice Rehearsal Pairs Method to teach speaking at TOEFL Training Class of Language Laboratory in STKIP Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung. The population of this research is the university students who took TOEFL Training Class of Language Laboratory in STKIP Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung. The sample of this research consists of two classes; class A was used as the experimental group treated by using Practice Rehearsal Pairs, and class B as the control group treated by using lecture method, each class consists of 30 students, so the total sample is 60 students. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The instruments used to collect the data are students? motivation questionnaire and speaking skill test. The data were analyzed by using multifactor analysis of variance (ANOVA 2X2) and Tukey test. Based on the results of the analysis, the findings of this research are: (1) Practice Rehearsal Pairs is more effective than lecture method to teach speaking; (2) the students with high level of motivation have better speaking skill than those with low level of motivation; and (3) there is an interaction between teaching methods and students? level of motivation to teach speaking. Based on the above findings, it can be concluded that Practice Rehearsal Pairs is an effective method to teach speaking for the university students who took TOEFL Training Class of Language Laboratory in STKIP Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung?. The effectiveness of the method is influenced by the students? level of motivation.

Abstract

The purpose of conducting this study is based on problem identification asking whether there are correlations among English speaking learning habits and self-confidence toward English speaking skills in promoting local tourism and culture of Bangka Belitung. The first-grade students of SMKN 3 Pangkalpinang in the academic year of 2018/2019 majoring in Tourism Travel Business Agent became the population in this study, and it took 50 students as the sample using a purposive random sampling technique. This correlational study used questionnaires and oral tests in collecting the data. The oral test was used to obtain English speaking skill data, while the questionnaires were used to obtain English speaking learning habits and students’ self-confidence data. The data were then analyzed using Simple and Multiple Correlation and Regression. The results of this study revealed that (1) there was a relationship between English speaking learning habit and English speaking skill, (2) there was a correlation between students’ self-confidence and English speaking skill, and (3) English speaking learning habit, confidence, and English speaking skill was simultaneously and positively correlated. In short, this study leads to a recommendation to the teachers and students to be aware of having good English speaking learning habits and high self-confidence to enhance English speaking skills.

Abstract

The objectives of this research determined the students perception of using the Padlet Application through writing activities. Padlet is the digital equivalent of sticking post it notes to the wall for organizing students' writing; the entire class can use it to organize ideas, brainstorm, comment, and create a stream of text and images. Students of EFL Writing Class were the subject of this research. The study used descriptive qualitative research with the questionnaire survey to collect the data. Based on the researchers survey, all the data was analyzed descriptively to describe learners views. The researcher offers some questions in the form of a questionnaire that focuses on using Padlet through writing class. The research results are based on students views that Padlet is easier to use, students enjoy the writing class, students are more interested in writing activities, and students feel motivated to complete the writing. Meanwhile, the challenge of using Padlet is the internet connection. So, most of the students believed that using Padlet to help their writing process was useful. Padlet is an effective tool for students to do writing activities and stay motivated.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out to introduce an understanding of literacy and numeracy, the use of technology in learning and understanding the importance of adolescent health awareness which is a contribution to the problems in the field, there is a lack of productivity of adolescents in the organization 1) less time to study especially for numeracy literacy content, 2) lack of ability to utilize technology in learning, 3) lack of understanding of adolescents in the organization in handling injuries during activities and lack of awareness of adolescents in maintaining health. The training was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah Pangkalpinang, and 30 high school students participated. The results of this activity are the presentation of material on understanding literacy and numeracy, an introduction to making flyers with Canva, and an introduction to a healthy lifestyle. This activity has been published in local mass-media articles in Bangka Belitung, and the videos have been uploaded on the official LPPMPP YouTube account of Universitas Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung. The participants from this event hope that the activity will always be carried out periodically because the participants' feedback was great, indicating a percentage of 83.57%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan jenis korelasi ganda. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa jauh hubungan antara penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris, dan minat Bahasa Inggris terhadap kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa Program TOEFL dari Mahasiswa PGSD STKIP Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung, baik secara parsial dan kesinambungan. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan dua jenis tes sebagai teknik pengumpulan data yaitu tes pilihan ganda untuk mengambil data vocabulary, tes essay untuk mengambil data kemampuan menulis, serta menggunakan angket untuk mengumpulkan data minat Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa yang mengikuti Program Kelas TOEFL, dengan diambil 30 mahasiswa secara random sebagai sampel penelitian. Teknik pengolahan data dari penelitian ini menggunakan analisis single dan multiple korelasi dan regresi. Hasi akhir dari penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif antara penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris, dan minat Bahasa Inggris terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa Program TOEFL dari Mahasiswa PGSD STKIP Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung, baik secara parsial dan kesinambungan. Hubungan positif ini menunjukkan bahwa penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris dan minat Bahasa Inggris cenderung naik dan turun bersamaan dengan kemampuan menulis Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Literal Listening is one of the compulsory courses in English Education. We are required to be able to understand at least 60 – 70 percent of what is being discussed and what is being reported by native speakers. Considering the decision of The Ministry of Education and Culture in Indonesia due to Covid- 19 pandemic that learning is carried online. Regarding that, several lecturers in the English Education Study Program chose to use the virtual technology in Google meet in order to keep the students engaged in Learning Process. This motivated the researcher to examine The Effect of Google Meet in Literal Listening Class for Second Semester Students of English Education Study Program. This research aims to know how the effectiveness of using google meets in Literal listening learning process and what the advantages and the weaknesses of using Google meet. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive and used questionnaires to students and interview the lecturer as the subject for this research. The finding of this research is that the motivation of students did not improve. Thus, the lecturer needs to use another technology to support Google meet in order to go to full potential of using it.

Abstract

Remaja harus siap bersaing tingkat global terutama pada masa industri 4.0 sekarang ini. Remaja perlu menjadi orang yang fleksibel dan serba bisa dalam segala hal. Dengan memahami adanya potensi diri remaja sejak awal ini mampu menciptakan dan menumbuhkan jiwa kreativitas. Mengajak remaja agar mempunyai jiwa kreatif dan lebih produktif dalam menciptakan lapangan kerja yaitu dengan mengenalkan konsep berhasil berwirausaha. Untuk mendukung kegiatan ini perlu diadakan pelatihan kreativitas dan memupuk jiwa kewirausahaan melalui hal sederhana yaitu pembuatan produk rumah tangga. Pelatihan ini dilakukan pada 20 peserta remaja yang tergabung dalam komunitas PIKR (Pusat Informasi Konseling Remaja) Mentari di Keluraha Ketapang, Kota Pangkalpinang. Kegiatan dilakukan selama 2 hari dengan tahap pemberian materi dan praktik pembuatan sabun cuci piring sederhana. Pada tahap akhir kegiatan ini dilakukan evaluasi dengan hasil peserta mampu membuat sabun cuci piring sederhana dan dapat membuat desain merk pribadi. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini yaitu remaja PIKR-Mentari mendapatkan materi dan pemahaman pengetahuan tentang jiwa kewirausahaan serta jiwa kreativitas, kemudian juga mendapat pemahaman tentang peluang produk rumah tangga sebagai alternatif wirausaha baru, dan berikutnya mereka mampu membuat desain kreativitas, selama kegiatan berlangsung, peserta merasa puas dan bangga pada hasil karya mereka.

Abstract

The new policy of the Indonesian educational system aims to engage all stakeholders, including teachers, in continually improving their capacity and adapting to changes. This study aims to develop an English language learning module titled "Knowing My World" for lower-grade primary students by adopting the ADDIE development model. The module integrates deep learning principles and local cultural content to enhance student engagement and contextual understanding, a development that has never been attempted before. This research was conducted at SDN 1 Kepulauan Pongok using a Research and Development (R&D) approach. The needs analysis revealed that students aged 8 to 9 years required visually rich, interactive, and culturally relevant materials. The design phase focused on structuring the module into six thematic units covering vocabulary related to colours, animals, food, daily routines, school, and nature. Instructional strategies included storytelling, songs, role-play, and group tasks. The module was piloted in one school, supported by teacher training and digital tools. The validity and practicality tests showed a valid result, with an average validity of 80.4% and an average practicality of 83% from both teachers and students. Suggestions for improvement included adding digital interactivity, bilingual guidance, and phonics-based activities. The results indicate that culturally contextualized and developmentally appropriate materials can support joyful and meaningful English learning in early education settings. Kebijakan baru dalam sistem pendidikan di Indonesia menuntut seluruh pemangku kepentingan, termasuk para guru, untuk terus meningkatkan kapasitas mereka dan beradaptasi dengan perubahan yang terjadi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan modul pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris berjudul “Knowing My World” bagi siswa sekolah dasar kelas rendah dengan menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE. Modul ini mengintegrasikan prinsip pembelajaran mendalam serta muatan budaya lokal untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa dan pemahaman kontekstual yang belum pernah dikembangkan oleh peneliti sebelumnya. Penelitian dilaksanakan di SDN 1 Kepulauan Pongok dengan pendekatan Research and Development (R&D). Hasil analisis kebutuhan menunjukkan bahwa siswa berusia 8–9 tahun memerlukan materi yang kaya visual, interaktif, serta relevan dengan budaya mereka. Pada tahap perancangan, modul disusun ke dalam enam unit tematik yang mencakup kosakata tentang warna, hewan, makanan, rutinitas sehari-hari, sekolah, dan alam. Strategi pembelajaran yang digunakan meliputi bercerita, lagu, bermain peran, dan tugas kelompok. Modul ini diujicobakan di satu sekolah dengan dukungan pelatihan guru dan pemanfaatan perangkat digital. Hasil uji validitas dan praktikalitas menunjukkan hasil yang baik, yaitu valid dengan persentase 80,4% pada uji validitas dan 83% pada uji praktikalitas rata-rata dari guru dan siswa. Beberapa saran perbaikan mencakup penambahan interaktivitas digital, panduan dwibahasa, serta kegiatan berbasis fonik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa materi pembelajaran yang kontekstual secara budaya dan sesuai dengan tahap perkembangan anak dapat mendukung pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang menyenangkan dan bermakna di pendidikan dasar.
