Abstract

The marginalization of particular groups or people as a result of the idea that one group or person is better than another is known as the "othering" process. This article discusses how a film adaptation of Dee Alexander Brown’s book on Native American history, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (BMHWK) performs this act of othering. First of all, it is done by negatively portraying the heroic figure in the book. Sitting Bull, a Teton Dakota Chief who united the Sioux tribes in North America, the Great Plains, in mid 19th century is reduced in the film into a weak figure. The Native American chief is overshadowed by White figures like Elaine Goodale and Senator Henry Dawes. In the film adaptation, the social hierarchy-building process, which put the Whites on top, educated natives in the middle, and the rest of Native American population in the bottom, serves as a vehicle for a further process of othering. The film represents Native Americans as people who need to be governed and who can only survive if they abide by White people's laws.

Abstract

The crankshaft is one of the main components that works in a combustion engine as a converter of the up-and-down motion of the piston into a rotary motion against the shaft used to drive chain wheel components, gears, or other components. In the research conducted, namely the analysis of the use of materials on the crankshaft using Ansys software with the aim of knowing the stress distribution, displacement, and safety factor. conclusion where the value of the radial free force of the crankshaft is 15 N, and the data that takes place on the crankshaft as follows: Based on the results of the analysis using Ansys, the maximum stress of 0.0866 N/mm2 is obtained. The displacement that occurs using Ansys analysis is 1.3461e-03mm. The safety factor that has been analyzed is 1.5 + 10.

Abstract

This research breaks down into two main goals: first, it aims to reveal the suicidal acts of the characters in Kathleen Glasgow's Girl in Pieces; second, it will examine the way in which the characters' suicidal narrative is constructed. The Sigmund Freud psychoanalytic theory and narratology were employed in this study to address the research objectives. Girl in Pieces, a novel by Kathleen Glasgow, serves as the data source for this qualitative investigation. This study demonstrates how the interaction between outside factors and internal conflicts illuminates the reasons behind suicide. The presence of ambivalent emotions, the impact of the superego's influence, and the regular reaction of loss to the withdrawal of libido caused the complex five characters to experience melancholy and mourning. This condition demonstrates how the novel's suicidal narrative is represented by the characters' psychological suffering. The manifestation of melancholy and its effects highlight the crucial role the superego plays in encouraging self-destructive behavior. The superego functions as a metaphorical "Thanatos," driving people toward self-destruction, including the potential for suicide, because of its punitive nature and internalized critical voice. With its intense sadness, self-loathing, and conflicting feelings about oneself, melancholia seriously jeopardizes people's wellbeing. The weight of melancholy and the destructive influence of the superego draw attention to how dangerous this mental state is.
