Abstract

Literacy Numeracy skills (LNS) are fundamental for facing global challenges in the 21st century. LNS can help people achieve their goals. However, there has not been a thorough study on literacy and numeracy research. To improve the quality of literacy and numeracy research, researchers must study much literature for further analysis. This research aims to analyze students' literacy and numeracy skills in facing 21st-century challenges. The research method used is the Systematic Literature Review to read 27 documents by searching for the keywords "literacy", "numeracy", and “Literacy and Numeracy”. This type of research is library research with the stages of determining research questions, searching literature, selecting articles, reading full papers, making abstractions, and conducting analysis. The data analysis technique used is content analysis. The study results show that the dominant research methodology used is quantitative; the instruments often used are tests and assessments. The chief field is mathematics; the overall educational level is junior high school and early childhood education. Some motivational results research related to literacy and numeracy skills includes digital competencies, learning videos, and games, effectively improving literacy and numeracy skills. Furthermore, not all learners have strong reading and numeracy abilities. A strong recommendation for further research is to develop learning media based on local wisdom using the Android platform. In addition, researchers must embed emergent literacy in the design and case study of didactically and pedagogically oriented research.

Abstract

Primary school curricullum lays the foundation of geometry knowledge; students learn geometry by exploring their environment. Many researchers found that students have difficulties in understanding quadrilaterals. Most of them assumed that quadrilateral is square. Therefore, the aim of this research is to develop activities that support students to know the different types and forms of quadrilaterals. A teacher and thirty nine of fifth grade students were invole in this research. We used Cak Ingkling -Indonesian hopscoth- as a context in line with PMRI -Indonesian version of Realistic Mathematics Education- approach. The research finding showed that the use of Cak Ingkling context can help students understand the definitions and types of quadrilaterals. Students have had the understanding that it has many quadrilateral shapes such as square, rectangle, rhombus, parallelogram, trapezoid, and kite.

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning is an essential ability that must be possessed by students when studying at university or in real life. Mathematical reasoning ability is one of the material sub-topics tested in the 2019 computer based written exam. In solving mathematical reasoning content questions, students often make mistakes in answering questions. The mistakes made by students occur due to various factors. Therefore, this research aimed to describe student errors and the factors that caused student errors in solving computer based written exam questions on the topic of mathematical reasoning according to Newman's theory. This research used a mixed method with 28 class XII students as the research subjects. The research instruments were written tests and interviews. The factors that caused reading errors were because students could not interpret the questions properly, misunderstandings occurred because students could not determine the necessary information in the problem, transformation errors occurred because students could not determine the correct method to solve the problem, process skill errors occurred because students were less thorough in solving questions and because of previous mistakes, mistakes in writing the final answer occurred because students were not used to writing conclusions and also because they were in a hurry.
