Abstract

Currently, seaweed extracts are widely used as plant biostimulants to increase the efficiency of nutrient use, tolerance of abiotic stress, and improve plant quality. In this study, tested the effect of different Padina minor seaweed extract formulas (liquid extract and powder extract) and the frequency of application of Padina minor seaweed extract (b0 = control; b1 = 1 x application; b2 = 2 x application; and b3 = 3 x application) as a biostimulant to the growth of upland rice. From the results of the study, it was found that there was no significant effect of the application of the two extract formulas and the frequency of application, but the administration of Padina minor extract 3 times during vegetative growth increased all growth parameters, such as: plant height, number of tillers, fresh and dry weight of plants, and chlorophyll content. It was concluded that giving Padina minor extract 3 times could increase the vegetative growth of upland rice effectively.

Abstract

Research on Water Quality Bioassessment Using Macrozoobenthic in the Batang Arau River, Padang City was carried out in March - September 2021. This study aims to determine the composition and structure of the macrozoobenthic community and water quality in the Batang Arau River based on the BMWP-ASPT index. This research uses the survey method and station determination by purposive sampling, based on environmental conditions. Macrozoobenthic samples were collected by using Surber net 30x30 cm2 and Eckman grab 15x15 cm2, and physical and chemical factors were also measured. The results showed that the macrozoobenthic communities found in the Batang Arau River were 37 genera with the composition of 6 genera Gastropods, 28 genera Insect, 2 genera Hirudinea, and 1 genus Oligochaeta. The total density of macrozoobenthic ranged from 140-1775 ind/m2 with the highest density at Station V and the lowest at Station III. The predominant genus (KR ≥ 10%) found at each station varied, Station I and Station II were Orthocladius and Caenis; Station III was Polypedium, Orthocladius, Baetis, and Elophila, Station IV was Orthocladius, Caenis, Erpobdella, Hellopdella, and Tubifex, and Station V was Melanoides. The diversity index of macrozoobenthic (H') in the Batang Arau River was 2.38 ranging from 0.5-2.57 classified as low to moderate, and the distribution of the macrozoobenthic population (E) is 0.65, ranging from 0.25-0.8 classified as uneven to equally. The water quality in the Batang Arau River based on the BMWP-ASPT index at Stations I and II are classified as unpolluted, Station III was lightly polluted, Station IV was moderately polluted, and Station V was heavily polluted.

Abstract

The population density and growth of the cockle Anadara antiquata L. Pelecypoda in Pisang River bay area Padang city, west Sumatera. The research has been done from March to December in 2004. The cockles A. antiquata were collected with systimatic stratified method. The cockle A. antiquata colletion site were divided three strata. The each strata were divided three station based on the water depth. Results of the research showed that the higest density of the cockle A. antiquata was found at station 1 strata III (1.8 ind./m2) and the lowest density at the station 3 strata I (0.9 ind./m2). The higest growth rate of A. antiquata was the length 3 cm (0.064 ± 0.043 cm/ind./15 day) and the lowest growth rate was the length 5 cm (0.009± 0.011 cm/ind./15 day) with corellation similarity Y=0.087–0.0165X; r=0.976).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the composition and structure of the macrozoobenthos community in Batang Air Dingin and water quality based on BMWP ASPT. This study used a survey method in determining the station by purposive sampling, based on typhical environmental condition along the river. Macrozoobenthos samples was collected by using surber net 30x30 cm2. The result showed the community in the form of Gastropods 6 genera, Insecta 26 genera, Oligochaeta 1 genus, and Hirudinea 1 genus. Total density of macrozoobenthos in the Batang Air Dingin river was 1182,22ind/m2 ranging from 180,00 ind/m2 to 402,22 ind/m2 with the highest density was found in the first station and the lowest at station four. The predominant type found at each station is different, station I is Elophyla, Neopherla, Hydropsyche; station II Eukifferiella, Polypedilum, Elophyla, Hydropsyche; station III Clithon, Eukifferiella, Polypedilum, Orthocladius; station IV Clithonand Thiara. The diversity of macrozoobenthos in Batang Air Dingin river range between 1,95-2,51 is classified as moderate with even distribution (E=0,84) range between 0,81-0,89. Batang Air Dingin water quality using BMWP ASPT from upstream to downstream range between 6,12 – 3,5. Classified unpolluted to heavily polluted.
