Abstract

Dalam paragraf pembuka di pengantar bukunya ini, Swearer mengemukakan pernyataan taktis, “It has to be seen to be believed”.

This paper departs from this problem and trays to respond it.This paper is based on a field research with its qualitative method that organized by investigating two radio stations in Jakarta’ greater area, namely MPM Radio Cemerlang Depok and Bens Radio Jakarta. One of the research findings is that ethnic voices broadcasted in both radios deals with commercial goal to gain profit as radio broadcasting enable to gain such profit or capital. However, broadcasting ethnicity program in radio has the goal to connect both radio audiences with their own culture background.Key words: radio, commercial radio, ethnicity, radio audience and radio positioningAbstrakRadio komersial yang memuat siaran bernuansa etnis amatlah berbeda dengan keberadaan radio komunitas. Abstract

Two decades after the abolishment of the banning of Chinese cultural expression publicly in Indonesia’ Post-Reformasi, studies on the institutionalization of Indonesian Chinese including Confucians in Indonesia seem to have been very few if it compared with that of Indonesian Chinese’ freedom expression and state perceived Confucians in general. This paper portrays the revival of Confucians in Indonesia happened in Purwokerto City (Banyumas), Central Java of Indonesia, by looking at the establishment of a new Confucian organization, namely Perkumpulan Rohaniwan Agama Khonghucu Indonesia (Parakhin, or Association for Confucianism clerics in Indonesia). Based on a qualitative research, this paper explores the narration behind the establishment of Parakhin. The paper shows that the democratic society and democratic climate of Indonesia enable any society including Confucian to align with the freedom of expression albeit potentially violating the essential concept, that is loyalty and filial piety that are very salient in Confucianism.

Abstract

Nowadays, some indigenous religion members in Indonesia are still fighting to grasp a fully civil rights recognition granted by the state. However, the way of such effort undertaken by people of Sunda Wiwitan of Cireundeu Cimahi is different. Rather than claiming the civil rights rigorously, they introduce as well as organize community ecotourism by preserving natural environment combined with Sundanese culture. This article aims at uncovering social changing around the shifting point of organizing ecotourism, objections from outsiders and adaptation with social environment whereby they negotiate with. Based on qualitative research which focuses on observation, in-depth interview, as well as literature study, this paper aims to portray the ecotourism initiative and its recent empowerment in this community which currently makes their customary village (kampung adat) well-known as one of the Sundanese cultural tourism destinations for not only Bandung greater area people, but also for the people of outside Bandung and abroad as well. The result shows that albeit some restrictions on expressing civil rights status still occur, having previous experience of losing informal job and objections from other groups alike, this community can maximize their teaching as well as their natural landscape potential in managing self-ecotourism based on their local cultural values.
