Abstract

At-Taqwa Lerabaing Mosque is one of the ancient mosques in Alor Island, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). By revealing the history of mosque establishment, it is hoped that it can reveal the history of Islam coming to NTT, which is currently predominant Christian and Catholic. This study aims to preserve the cultural heritage of the Indonesian Nation, especially related to the historic mosque and its role in spreading Islam in the Alor Regency, NTT. This study uses a historical-archaeological approach. Performing this research, it is expected to reveal the origin of the mosque, the condition of the community at the time of its construction, the architecture and the historical objects contained therein, and local wisdom in broadcasting Islam in NTT. The results of this study reveal that the history of the coming Islam to Alor Island was closely related to the arrival of a preacher from Ternate named Sultan Kimales Gogo. After the King of Kui Kingdom and his people converted to Islam, he established this mosque. The mosque in the form of a house on stilts was built in 1042 H or 1633 M. Compared to other mosques in Indonesia, this mosque has its specificity. it lies in its shape which resembles a stage house with a two-story roof and all materials made from wood and bamboo without nails. Keywords: Alor Island, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Lerabaing mosque. Abstract

Abstract

The nationalistic attitude of some Muslims in Indonesia is questioned because they are considered intolerant of non-Muslims, especially non-Muslims who are nominated to be leaders in a Muslim-majority region. In fact, the tendency to elect a leader is usually motivated by environmental and religious factors, not because of the absence of nationalism and tolerance towards believers of other religions. This article’s purposeisto prove that this nationalism attitude was also owned by Indonesian Islamic scholars in old times, especially local Tafseer(Tafseer is a commentary book of knowledge)scholars in Javanese. This JavaneseTafseer was chosen because it contains native Indonesians wisdom. The method used in this research is a thematic Tafseer method by elaborating on the opinions of Javanese Tafseer scholars on verses related to nationalism. The conclusion of this article reveals that the Javanese Tafseer scholars have very high nationalistic attitudes towards their country. This is reflected in his work which is very prominent in the aspects of love for their homeland, tolerance, and defending the country.

Abstract

Trisakti was one of Sukarno's ideas for realizing nationalism at the policy level, although during his reign this idea was not fully realized. Sukarno revealed his Trisakti concept when he addressed the Fourth General Session of the MPRS on June 22, 1966. Trisakti contains three political ideals to uphold nationalism in Indonesia, namely: sovereignty and freedom in politics, personality in culture, and independence in the economy. This concept began to be carried forward in the era of Jokowi's leadership as the 7th President. To reexamine this idea, the author tries to elaborate on it one by one in the view of the Qur'an, using a thematic method by taking sources from the interpretations of Javanese mufassir. This is because their interpretation of the Quran is closer to Sukarno's culture whose background is the same as Javanese. The conclusion of this discussion is that the Javanese mufassir agreed with Sukarno's ideas because none of the Trisakti concepts violated religious rules. This can be revealed from the source of Qur'anic verses related to the concept of Trisakti, both explicitly and implicitly, as implied in the story of Prophet Sulayman about political sovereignty and the story of Prophet Yusuf about economic independence.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the internalization of religious moderation among Muslim students at ITB and IPB and its implications for the deradicalization movement in Indonesia. There are four main pillars that indicate national commitment: tolerance, non-violence, and respect for local traditions and culture. Two important factors motivated the writing of this article: first, the suspicion that radicalism occurs among students, and second, the belief that most radicalism occurs on non-religious campuses due to a lack of understanding of Islamic religious sources. Are these assumptions true? Therefore, this research was conducted on the campuses of ITB and IPB, which are well-known non-religious campuses in Indonesia. This research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews. The study concluded that the internalization of moderation at IPB and ITB is very good, drawing insights from various sources including the campus environment, social media, several studies, and the broader community. Students at both campuses generally exhibit a moderate attitude, although some students' understanding of moderation is not yet fully developed. For example, when asked to choose a president, 45% of students chose a Muslim candidate, while 40% based their choice on justice and skills rather than religion. Based on the moderate attitudes of students at both universities, the behavior of religious radicalism is unlikely to occur or even exist. Thus, students on both campuses are considered to have implemented the four main pillars of religious moderation.

Abstract

This study explores the role of hadith-based religious moderation in enhancing the social resilience of Indonesian students studying in Syria during the downfall of the Bashar al-Assad regime. The main objective is to identify strategies for implementing the values of religious moderation that are relevant to preventing radicalism and fostering social resilience. The research employs Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī’s theory of religious moderation within a sociological case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. The research questions include:(1) How is the contextual interpretation of ḥadīths on moderation understood among Indonesian students in Syria? (2) How are the prophetic principles of moderation applied to build social resilience in the post-Assad context? (3) What are the outcomes of internalizing hadith-based moderation among these students? The findings reveal that, based on al-Qaraḍāwī’s pillars of moderation, students demonstrate balance (tawāzun) by maintaining religious commitment while avoiding conflict and focusing on academic and religious studies. In terms of tolerance (tasāmuḥ), students show greater openness toward differences. Meanwhile, regarding comprehensiveness (syumūliyah),they actively engage in social interactions and embrace diverse groups without aligning with political factions. Social resilience efforts are manifested through hadith-based study circles emphasizing peace and harmony among Muslims.
