Abstract

There is a decrease in the physiological function of the body in the elderly which causes the elderly to be more susceptible to health and nutrition problems. The nutritional problem that needs to be watched out in the elderly group is obesity. Elderly with obesity are at greater risk of experiencing degenerative diseases compared to the elderly who have normal nutritional status. This activity is divided into three stages in its implementation. First stage is a preliminary study by conducting nutritional screening to determine the nutritional problems. The second stage is data analysis and preparation of educational materials according to the results of the preliminary study. The last stage is performing nutrition education to the elderly. The results of the preliminary study that have been carried out show that the majority of the elderly in RT 04 RW 01 Kertorejo Hamlet Peniwen Village, Kromengan District, Malang Regency have more nutritional status with a high calorie consumption pattern. Based on these results, educational activities related to balanced nutrition were carried out with the result of increasing knowledge of the elderly who were accompanied by the family.

Abstract

The elderly is someone more than or equal to 55 years old with a process of physical, biological, cognitive, psychological, economic, and social role changes in society. The main psychological problem in the elderly is loneliness, feelings of isolation because they feel different from other people's circumstances. The purpose of the study was to determine the level of loneliness and the level of knowledge about loneliness in the elderly in Peniwen Village. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample amounted to 30 people with the sampling technique, namely the total sampling system. The research instrument used the De Jong Giervield Loneliness questionnaire and a pretest-posttest related to knowledge about loneliness. Based on the results of the questionnaire, 29 (96.67%) respondents experienced moderate loneliness and 1 (3.33%) respondent experienced severe loneliness. In the pre-test results, there were no respondents who answered 10 post-test numbers correctly. After being given counseling, there was an increase in value as shown by 20 (66.70%) respondents answering 10 post-test numbers correctly. Based on the Wilcoxon test, a significance level value of p=0.000 or <0.05 was obtained, which means that there is a difference between the knowledge of respondents before counseling and after counseling about loneliness. The conclusion is that most of the elderly of Peniwen village experience moderate levels of loneliness and there are differences in knowledge before and after counseling about loneliness in the elderly.

Abstract

Gout is the most common inflammatory arthritis in the world, including in the Asia region. Gout is a debilitating, yet preventable disease. The general principle of gout prevention is to regulate circulating UA concentration and other related comorbidities. Identifying gout modifiable risk factors is paramount in gout prevention. This review aims to explain modifiable risk factors for gout, especially in the Asia region. Apart from urate-lowering therapy, modifying gout risk factors consisted of a low-purine diet, mild to moderate exercise, adequate sleep, elimination of smoking exposure, and regulation of comorbidities such as hypertension, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and kidney diseases, lowered the risk of hyperuricemia and gout in Asian population.
