Abstract

Background: The postnatal complication that occurs in the first week after childbirth is one of the causes of maternal death in Indonesia. However, it can be prevented with postnatal care (PNC). This study aims to analyze the determinants of PNC service utilization in Indonesia. Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional study design and used secondary data from the Indonesian Health and Demographics Survey of 2017. The sample consisted of 14,724 women aged 15–49 years. We assessed the predictors of PNC service utilization using multivariate logistic regression models. Results: About 78.4% of the respondents utilized PNC services. The factors that have a significant association with PNC service utilization include the following: college and secondary of level education, working status, high economic status, residence in the Java–Bali region, delivery assistance by a health worker, delivery by cesarean section, and complete antenatal care during pregnancy. Among these, residence in the Java–Bali region is the most dominant factor associated with PNC service utilization in Indonesia. Conclusions: The difference area is a key factor in PNC service utilization. Government efforts to improve PNC service utilization must consider the equitable distribution of health facilities and health workers throughout the country.

Abstract

Background: Population growth rate in the world is still increasing. To control population growth, governments issue family planning programs for married women and men. However, contraception use is still dominated by women. This study aims to analyze the trends and determinants of family planning utilization among men in Indonesia. Methods: This study is quantitative in nature with a cross-sectional design, using secondary data from the Indonesian Health Demographic Survey (2007–2017). The sample comprised married men with a total of 27,859 respondents. For the final analysis, we conducted logistic regression statistical tests to determine family planning utilization among men. Results: Family planning utilization trends among married men in Indonesia increased. The proportion utilization of family planning among men was 3.7% (2007), 4.2% (2012), and 5.6% (2017). Higher and secondary education, media exposure, age, type of residence, and economic status significantly correlated with family planning utilization among married men. Higher education was the most dominant factor associated with family planning utilization among males in Indonesia (p < 0.001; Prevalence Ratio (PR) 4.636 Confidence Interval 95% (3.645–5.897). Conclusions: Male education is the most crucial factor of family planning utilization. Increasing knowledge regarding family planning is expected to increase information and awareness about family planning utilization.

Abstract

Background: The World Health Organization reports that approximately 295,000 women died during or after their pregnancy and delivery in 2017. However, such deaths can be prevented by using delivery assistance from health workers. This study aims to analyze the trends and determinants of using delivery assistance by health workers in Indonesia. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional design is adopted to analyze secondary data from the Indonesian Health Demographic Surveys in 2007, 2012, and 2017. The sample includes married women that are selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria: 15.011 respondents in 2007, 14.989 in 2012, and 15.179 in 2017. Data are analyzed using logistic regression statistical tests. Results: This study shows the significant increase of using delivery assistance by health workers in Indonesia, from 53.8% in 2007, 68.8% in 2012, to 77.9% in 2017. Age, residence in the Java/Bali region, residence in urban areas, high and secondary education, high economic status, complete antenatal care visits, and knowing the signs of danger during pregnancy have significant relationships with delivery assistance by health workers among women. After being controlled by another factor, higher education is the most dominant factor associated with using delivery assistance by health workers among women in Indonesia (p < 0.001; Prevalence Ratio (PR) of 3.727 (3.123–4.447). Conclusions: Women’s education is the most important factor in delivery assistance by health workers utilization. Increasing knowledge regarding utilization of health worker assistance during delivery can be carried out through educational information, counseling or seminars, the Internet, and other media that are expected to increase information and awareness to take advantage of such service.

Abstract

The Ministry of Health has issued Minister of Health Regulation Number 21 of 2021 to strengthen maternal health services, which regulates health services during pregnancy (antenatal). The Minister of Health's regulation states that antenatal care is carried out at least six times, 2 (two) of which are examinations with a doctor using an Ultra Sonography (USG) device. Community health centers as primary services are expected to be able to provide antenatal services according to standards. The North Lampung Health Service has distributed ultrasound equipment to community health centers in the North Lampung Regency to support the implementation of antenatal services. The research aims to determine the implementation of antenatal care policies at the Negara Ratu Health Center and Cempaka Health Center. This research is qualitative with a case study design; data was collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document review. The research results show that implementing the antenatal care policy at the Community Health Center has been running according to the 10 T standard, including antenatal care with doctors using ultrasound equipment. However, integrated antenatal care with mental health programs, recording in the mother's KIA book, and reporting K6 coverage by the Community Health Center have not been implemented optimally. Human resources and facilities still need to be improved. Even though most pregnant women support and participate in antenatal care, obstacles, and challenges are still found in encouraging the participation of pregnant women. Efforts are needed to optimize the implementation of antenatal care policies and increase resources and community support to support the implementation of antenatal care policies at Community Health Centers.

Abstract

The development of the health sector in Indonesia, particularly in healthcare services, is a process that cannot be separated from active community participation. One of the strategies implemented by the government in the health sector is through the Integrated Service Post (Posyandu). Posyandu is a form of Community-Based Health Effort (UKBM) organized by, from, for, and with the community. Each activity within Posyandu is carried out and managed by volunteers (kaders) with technical assistance from healthcare workers. Kaders play a strategic role as the main element in Posyandu operations. Their active participation is a crucial factor in ensuring the sustainability and development of Posyandu so that it continues to function optimally. This study employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional research design, where the independent variable analyzed is the knowledge level of kaders about Posyandu, while the dependent variable examined is the level of kader participation in Posyandu activities. The sampling technique used in this study is accidental sampling, with a total of 76 Posyandu kaders as respondents. To analyze the collected data, univariate and bivariate analyses were used, with the chi-square test applied to assess the relationship between variables. The study results indicate that out of the 76 Posyandu kaders surveyed, 42 (55.3%) had good knowledge, 32 (42%) had moderate knowledge, and 10 (13.2%) had poor knowledge about Posyandu. Regarding kader participation, 47 (61.8%) were actively involved in Posyandu activities, while 29 (38.2%) were not active. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between the level of kader knowledge about Posyandu and their level of participation in Posyandu activities in Baleendah Subdistrict. Therefore, to continuously improve kader knowledge, structured training and coaching sessions should be conducted by local health center (Puskesmas) personnel. Additionally, periodic knowledge refreshment or "refreshing" sessions on relevant Posyandu-related topics are essential to maintain and enhance the quality of services provided.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting among toddlers is a pressing concern associated with increased mortality and morbidity risks. Sukabumi Regency in West Java has the second-highest stunting prevalence rate at 37.6% in 2020, as reported by the West Java Health Office. In 2022, Sukaresmi Village, Cisaat District, was identified with the highest stunting prevalence at 20.2%. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling, employing the emotional demonstration method, on knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of mothers with stunted toddlers in Cisaat Public Health Center's jurisdiction. Method: This research uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental pre-post-test design, involving 60 mothers with stunted toddlers. Result and Discussion: The study shows significant positive changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among mothers who received counseling using the emo-demo method, lecture method, or a combination, as indicated by a p-value of <0.05. Notably, the combined emo-demo and lecture method outperforms either method individually. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is recommended that Cisaat Public Health Center implements health counseling using the emo-demo method combined with lectures, using tailored materials for target groups in stunting prevention. Future research should explore alternative methodologies and larger sample sizes to enhance findings' validity and generalizability in this crucial public health domain

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescent pregnancy has become an increasing concern in the working area of Nagrak Public Health Center, Bandung Regency, over the past three years. In response, a reproductive health program targeting adolescents has been implemented; however, its effectiveness remains suboptimal. 0Objective: This study aims to analyze the root causes of the less-than-optimal implementation of adolescent reproductive health programs at the Nagrak Public Health Center and propose actionable solutions. Method: A qualitative research method with a case study design was employed, conducted between April and May 2025. Data were analyzed using a fishbone diagram to identify contributing factors. Result and Discussion: The findings reveal several challenges: under the "man" factor, adolescents lack sufficient knowledge, parental involvement is limited, and there is a shortage of trained healthcare workers. The "material" factor points to the absence of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for adolescent reproductive health services. Under the "method" factor, activities such as youth Posyandu and counseling sessions are not routinely conducted, and existing educational media are unengaging. Lastly, the "environment" factor highlights minimal support from schools and communities. Conclusion: To optimize the program, efforts must focus on enhancing adolescent access to information and services, strengthening parental and environmental roles, and improving the quality and availability of reproductive health resources at the public health center
