Abstract

Abstract. Self-Peer-Assessment (SPA) is one of the learning methods that can be used to improve speaking ability in English Speaking ability is one of the important skills in English and it is very encouraging for students to learn, especially for students who use an ESP because it will be an added value in developing their capabilities. The purpose of this research is to explain the ability of students of ESP D3 Medical Laboratory Technology (TLM) at Megarezky University through self-peer-assessment (SPA). This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR), with planning for each class action research cycle carried out through four (4) stages which include: planning, implementing actions, observing / collecting data, and reflecting. Quantitative data collection techniques were obtained by tests (pre-test, interview, discussion, and post-test), as well as through observation, field notes, and documentation in the teaching and learning process. The results of this study indicate that the use of SEF assessment and peer assessment in cycle I was at 56.6%, while in cycle II there was a significant increase of 96.6%. This proved that the speaking ability of ESP students increased by using self-assessment and peer-assessment.

Abstract

Abstract:This study aims to enhance the students' reading ability through Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS) in SMA Negeri 19 Makassar. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR), which consists of four stages: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The research techniques used are pretest, post-test, and observation. The findings showed that the use of Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies was successful in improving the students' reading ability. The improvement can be seen from the mean score of the students in cycle one is 23.1, which is categorized as good, while in cycle two, it is 73.1, which is classified as very good. Seventeen students met the Minimum Completeness Criteria (MCC) in cycle one, and 22 students completed the MCC in cycle two. Therefore, this research concludes that Peer-Assisted Learning strategies improve the students' learning outcomes of reading ability in SMA Negeri 19 Makassar.Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa melalui Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS) di SMA Negeri 19 Makassar. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang terdiri dari 4 tahap; perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Teknik penelitian ini menggunakan tes dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa SMA Negarei 19 Makassar. Peningkatan tersebut terlihat dari nilai rata-rata siswa pada siklus I sebesar 23,1 dengan kategori baik, dan pada siklus II sebesar 73,1 tergolong sangat baik. Tujuh belas siswa memenuhi Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum (KKM) pada siklus satu, dan 22 siswa memenuhi KKM pada siklus dua. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa kemampuan membaca siswa meningkat melalui model pembelajaran Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies di SMA Negarei 19 Makassar.

Abstract

This research aimed at improving students’ reading ability by using PAQRS strategy. This research applied a classroom action research (CAR) design that conducted in two cycles consisted of four stages: planning, action, observation and reflection. Each cycle consist of four meetings. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted tests, interview, and observation. The data is presented quantitatively as the primary data and quantitatively as supporting data. The findings of the study showed that there were 18.91% students who achieved the minimum completeness criteria and the average score was 67.35 in the first cycle test. While there were 81.08% students who achieved the minimum completeness criteria and the average score were 76.72 in the second cycle test. The result of the research indicated that students’ achievement is increase from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The conclusion of this study is that PAQRS strategy can successfully improve students’ reading skills.

Abstract

The English for Specific Purpose students assumed that the speaking ability is the most challenging item to learn English because the English learning class and the environment are unsupportive to the students to speak in English. This research aimed to describe whether the peer assessment improves the ESP students' speaking ability or not. Thus, the researchers conducted experimental research by using a peer assessment method to check the improving speaking ability of ESP Students. This research involved 30 second-semester students of Teknik Laboratorium Medis at Universitas Megarezky. The data was analyzed from the assessment, interviews, observation, and field notes during the study. The result showed that the average of students' was 67.3 before applying peer assessment, while the percentage of students' score was 82 after using peer assessment. The speaking ability increased in the post-test after using peer assessment. The peer assessment can improve the speaking ability of ESP students' performances. This study concludes that the implementation of peer-assessment improves the speaking ability performance of ESP students. Although this research proves that peer assessment significantly increases speaking ability, but the next study is urgently needed, especially for ESP students. The researchers suggest tor further analysis to have more peer assessment techniques and apply peer assessment in different ways in ESP students.

Abstract

The Age of Innocence presents marriage woman in sociocultural background of upper-middle class woman in the late of 19th century. This research aimed to describe marriage in the alte of 19th century reflected in The Age of Innocence. The researcher used qualitative method. The data were analyzed by using the Sociological theory in order to describe marriage in the novel. The sociological theory is uesd to analysed the sociological background of marriage woman at that time. The results of the research shows marriage in the late of 19th century that describe in two parts; woman as fiancee and woman as a wife. The Age of Innocence represent the marriage women are still patriacy and in the domestic sphere

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the audio lingual method on the speaking skills of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 6 Bontoramba. This research is an experimental study where there are two classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. The sample of this study was class VIII students consisting of 18 students for the experimental class and 18 students for the control class. The instrument in this study used tests, namely pre-test and post-test. The data in this study were obtained from tests that have been carried out, namely pre-test and post-test. The data were analysed using the SPSS version 22 application. The result of the study showed that the average pre-test score of students in the experimental class was 45.22 while the average post-test score of experimental 64.44, while the average pre-test of control class was 41.83 and the average post-test in the control class was 54.72 where Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Therefore, the reseacher concluded that there was an improvement in students’ speaking using the audio lingual method in the experimental class SMP Negeri 6 Bontoramba.

Abstract

Speaking English with precise and accurate pronunciation is an ability that is highly desired by all students. However, in reality there are still many students who find it difficult to apply it in everyday life both at school and at home. Therefore, this study aims to find out how students pronounce before and after using homophone games and how effective the use of homophone games on student pronunciation in class VII B MTsN Kepulauan Selayar. This type of research is pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test, carried out in four stages, namely pre-test, treatment, post-test, and observation. The subjects of this study were students of class VII B MTsN Kepulauan Selayar totaling 16 people where there were 10 male students and 6 female students. Data collection techniques used are tests, and documentation. The results showed that through the homophone game the pronunciation of students in grade VII B MTsN Kepulauan Selayar was more effective. It can be seen from the students' pre-test and post-test scores increased, from 48.81 to 59.62, with a score range of 10.81. Meanwhile, the standard deviation for the pre-test is 0.3725 and the post-test is 0.4045, with a value range of 0.032. Where the value of the t-test is greater than the t-table, namely 787,108 1,75305. So, based on the results of the data analysis above, the researcher can conclude that the use of homophone games for class VII B students of MTsN Kepulauan Selayar is more effective.

Abstract

This study analyzes the novel that entitled The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Based on the novel, the character tries to do anything to get their happiness such as wasting their money for unimportant things which is called hedonism. This study aimed to analyze the representative of hedonism ideology and the culture in New York in 1920s in the Great Gatsby novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The theories that are used in this study are hedonism theory. This study uses sociological approach and library research which takes some information related to the research problems from books and other literatures to gather the data. The result of the analysis to answer the first research problem shows that from seven kinds of hedonism, there are two kinds that are found by researchers in this study; Hedonistic Egoism, and Hedonistic Utilitarianism. The first kind is Hedonistic Egoism that can be seen when Tom and Daisy move to another city and let Gatsby clean up the mess that they have made. The last kind is Hedonistic Utilitarianism that can be seen when Gatsby often holds parties for anyone.

Abstract

Organizational management is one of the things that is very important to achieve the goals, vision, and mission of the organization. Good organizational management will make the organization run well. But the Covid-19 pandemic had caused changes in the organizational structure. This had an impact on several community organizations not working well. One of the community organizations that had an impact was the NGC New Generation Club (NGC). NGC administrators found it difficult to carry out all activities that had been planned to be online activities or restrictions with certain permits. Seeing this, it is necessary to have organizational management training at the New Generation Club (NGC) non-governmental organization after the pandemic. This community service used online training methods. It is hoped that with this organizational management training, the NGC NGC administrators are able to carry out all activities even though they are in online form so that the organization can run well.

Abstract

Global competition in various fields demands adequate and accountable skill and academic competence expertise. In the world of education, various efforts have been tried to prepare for this global competition, which is very meaningful to produce graduates who are able to compete to continue to the Learning level and in the world of work. The goal to be achieved in this Community Service activity is to provide effective integrated TOEFL Tips & Tricks Training to improve English mastery skills for OUR Organization Members. At the beginning of the activity, participants conducted a pre-test with test material for TOEFL Tips & Tricks Training test. The training is divided into three basic skills, namely, Listening, Structure and Written Expression, and Reading Comprehension. Listening and Reading material is given in three training sessions, while Structure & Written Expression material is given in four meeting sessions. Each session is held for 90 minutes with a balance of theory and practice in the form of doing practice questions. The results of this community service activity received a positive response from the D4 Medical Laboratory Technology Study Program as the Study Program that houses OUR Organization. The form of positive response can be seen, among others, from active participation, both from the head of the Study Program and the administrators of our Organization as well as from the training participants.
