Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of a structured physical exercise program on the physical fitness of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Kutacane. Employing an experimental design, a total of 20 students were randomly assigned to two groups: an experimental group that underwent a specifically designed 4-week physical training regimen and a control group that participated only in the standard, regular school sports activities. Physical fitness was quantitatively measured through a battery of standardized tests assessing various components, including the 60-meter sprint for speed, pull-ups for upper body muscular endurance, sit-ups for abdominal endurance, skipping for agility and coordination, and the vertical jump for lower body explosive power. Data collection occurred in two phases: a pre-test before the intervention and a post-test following the 4-week period. The collected data were subjected to statistical analysis, commencing with tests for normality (Shapiro-Wilk) and homogeneity (Levene's test) to validate the assumptions for parametric testing. Subsequently, a paired t-test was employed to compare the pre-test and post-test results within each group. The findings reveal a statistically significant improvement across all measured aspects of physical fitness in the experimental group, while the control group showed minimal changes. These results robustly demonstrate the profound effectiveness of a structured, consistent physical exercise program in enhancing the overall physical fitness of junior high school students. The study concludes that such programs are crucial and should be integrated into the standard physical education curriculum to foster better health and physical development among adolescents.

Abstract

This study aims to empirically analyze the effect of applying the wall bounce training method on improving underhand passing skills in volleyball games among 11th-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Lawe Sigala-gala. This research used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 15 students selected through a purposive sampling technique. The measurement instrument used was the AAHPER (American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation) Volleyball Passing Test. The wall bounce training intervention was carried out for 16 sessions with a frequency of 3 times per week. Data were analyzed using a parametric statistical paired sample t-test with the help of SPSS software after first testing for normality with the Shapiro-Wilk test. The results showed a significant increase in the average score. The average pretest score was 20.13 ("moderate" category), which increased to 25.07 ("good" category) in the posttest. The results of the paired sample t-test showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that there was a statistically significant difference between the underhand passing ability before and after the treatment was given. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the wall bounce training method is proven effective and has a significant positive impact on improving volleyball underhand passing skills. Therefore, this exercise can be used as an alternative training method that is simple, efficient, and effective to be applied in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning, especially in volleyball material.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve the mastery of long service techniques in badminton through the This study aims to provide a detailed analysis of the approach run and take-off techniques in the long jump among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Badar. Employing a quantitative descriptive methodology, the research utilized direct skill tests and systematic observation to gather data from a purposive sample of 20 students. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0, with descriptive statistics revealing the central tendencies and frequency distributions of the performance scores. The findings indicate that the students' proficiency in both the approach and take-off techniques falls within a moderate category. Consequently, the overall performance in the long jump, measured by the distance achieved, was also classified as moderate. These results underscore a significant gap in the students' mastery of fundamental biomechanical principles essential for a successful jump. The study concludes by proposing targeted recommendations for Physical Education (PE) teachers and curriculum developers. These include the integration of more structured, technique-focused training regimens, the adoption of varied teaching methods to enhance student engagement and understanding, and the provision of adequate facilities to support effective skill acquisition. This research contributes to the broader effort of improving athletic pedagogy in the Indonesian junior high school context.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Tactical Games Model (TGM), an approach rooted in the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) pedagogy, in enhancing game understanding in football among junior high school students. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed. A sample of 60 Grade VIII students from SMP Negeri 1 Badar was divided into two groups: an experimental group (n=30) that received instruction via the tactical model, and a control group (n=30) that underwent conventional, technique-focused training. Game understanding was quantitatively assessed using the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI), which measures components such as decision-making, skill execution, and support in game-like situations. The results from paired sample t-tests indicated a statistically significant improvement in game understanding from pretest to posttest for both groups (p < .05). However, the experimental group demonstrated a substantially greater improvement, with an average gain score of 17.5 points, compared to the control group's average gain of 6.5 points. This significant difference in gain scores confirms the superior efficacy of the tactical learning model. The study concludes that the tactical approach, which embeds technical skill development within a contextual, game-centered learning environment, is significantly more effective than the traditional technical model in fostering a deeper and more applicable understanding of football among students. The findings advocate for a pedagogical shift in physical education towards models that prioritize tactical awareness and decision-making.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students' critical thinking skills within the context of Physical Fitness Gymnastics, a component of Physical Education (PE). Employing a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, the research was conducted with 30 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 1 Lawe Sigala-Gala, selected via total sampling. The intervention consisted of a series of lessons on the "Indonesian Fantastic Children's Gymnastics" (Senam Anak Indonesia Hebat) delivered using the PBL model, where students worked collaboratively to solve authentic problems related to gymnastic sequences, techniques, and health benefits. Critical thinking skills, operationalized through five indicators—analysis, reasoning, evaluation, reflection, and decision-making—were measured using a validated essay test. The results indicated a substantial increase in the mean score from 48.7 in the pretest to 76.7 in the posttest. A paired-sample t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores (t (29) = 15.87, p < 0.05), with the t-value exceeding the critical t-table value of 2.04. This leads to the conclusion that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model has a significant positive effect on enhancing students' critical thinking skills in the subject of physical fitness gymnastics. The findings advocate for the integration of PBL as an effective pedagogical strategy in the PE curriculum to foster higher-order thinking skills alongside physical proficiency.
