Abstract

Ethnic identity is important in cultural inheritance. In border areas, there are often mixing of two different ethnic groups. The purpose of this study is to obtain an overview of the ethnic identity of Sundanese and Javanese adolescents in the border region. The subjects in this study were  two group of students from one High school in Ciamis, a border area between West Java and central Java.  They were members of the Javanese and Sundanese ethnic groups (N=60).  The instrument used is the Multigroup Ethnic Identity Measure (MEIM) scale developed by Phinney (1992). Result shows that the two ethnic groups have almost the same sense of ownership, but they are low in exploring their ethnicity.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of work stress on readiness to change with coping strategies as a moderating variable. We used a cross-sectional survey design for 124 archivists, 58 men, and 66 women. For data analysis, we conducted regression and moderation analysis. We collected data using a questionnaire consisting of three measuring tools: Job Stress Scale (JSS), Readiness for Change Scale, and Brief-Cope. The results showed that work stress significantly affected readiness to change, with a coefficient of determination of 86.4%. Adaptive coping strategies act as moderators and strengthen the effect of work stress on readiness to change with an increase in the coefficient of determination to 87.9% and a beta coefficient of .020. However, maladaptive coping strategies cannot act as a moderator in the effect of job stress on readiness to change.

Abstract

The term nafs has a particular position to be studied due to its complexity in semantics. The study focused on three editions of the Indonesian Al-Qur’an translation published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Republik Indonesia: 1990, 2002, and 2019 editions. This study aimed to describe the translations of the term nafs and the possibilities of translation changes in the three editions. This study used a qualitative design with the descriptive-analytical method. The data sources are texts of Al-Qur’an in Arabic and texts of three editions of Al-Qur’an translation in Indonesian. The results show the translations of the term nafs have several themes: first, nafs as desire; second, nafs as a group; third, nafs refers to a person or human; fourth, nafs as structure within a human. In each theme, there are variations of diction. We also found changes and consistencies of dictions used in the three editions of the translation.

Abstract

Abstract

Proactive personality is an essential disposition determining students’ readiness to enter the workforce, so a validated instrument is needed to measure it in Indonesia. This study aimed to adapt the Proactive Personality Scale–Short Version (PPS-SV) into the Indonesian language and test its validity and reliability in a student population. A total of 232 students (61 men, 171 women) from a university in Bandung participated in the study. The age range of the participants was 19–25 years old (M = 21.7; SD = 1.12). Construct validity was tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), while reliability was estimated using Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega. The CFA results confirmed the one-factor structure of the PPS-SV and demonstrated good model fit with the data (CFI = .964, TLI = .954, GFI = .994, RMSEA = .069, and SRMR = .036). The scale also showed excellent internal consistency (α = .901; ω = 0.902). Thus, the Indonesian adaptation of the PPS-SV was judged to have strong psychometric properties, including good construct validity and reliability. This scale can therefore be recommended for measuring proactive personality in students in Indonesia.
