Abstract

This study aims to explore students’ self-transformation through learning experiences in the Six Plus Six Multi Talenta Program within the tourism and hospitality industry. A qualitative approach using Narrative Inquiry was employed to understand how students interpret their learning experiences during six months of academic study at Batam Tourism Polytechnic and six months of On-the-Job Training (OJT) in the hospitality industry. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving students from the Room Division Management program. The findings reveal that learning experiences gained through the integration of campus-based education and industry-based training contribute not only to the development of technical and soft skills but also to significant changes in students’ mindsets, work attitudes, and professional identity. Students perceived the program as an opportunity to understand the realities of the workplace, develop adaptability, strengthen discipline and responsibility, and prepare for future careers in the tourism and hospitality sector. The study further demonstrates that self-transformation occurs through a continuous process of learning, reflection, adaptation, and professional identity formation. These findings highlight the importance of experiential and work-based learning in fostering competent, adaptable, and industry-ready human resources for the tourism and hospitality sector.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of risk management in the Batam International Sea Eagle Boat Race 2025 and its impact on local entrepreneurial resilience in Belakang padang, Batam. As a maritime sport tourism event involving international participants and large numbers of visitors, effective risk management is essential to ensure event safety, operational continuity, and economic benefits for local communities. This research employed a qualitative case study approach using interviews, observations, documentation, and literature review. Data were analyzed based on the ISO 31000:2018 framework, covering communication and consultation, risk identification, risk analysis, risk treatment, and monitoring and review processes. The findings indicate that risk management implementation was generally effective, particularly in stakeholder coordination, risk identification, and mitigation measures. Major risks identified included participant safety, visitor congestion, and limited SME bazaar space; however, these risks were successfully managed, allowing the event to proceed safely and without significant incidents. The study further reveals that effective risk management contributed to creating a secure business environment, which enhanced SME preparedness, adaptive capacity, and entrepreneurial resilience. These findings suggest that risk management plays a strategic role in ensuring successful maritime event operations, also in supporting sustainable tourism development and strengthening local economic resilience through community-based entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Urban parks as public tourism spaces play an important role in supporting recreational activities and enhancing regional tourism attractiveness. However, the quality and facilities provided do not always optimally generate visitor satisfaction. This study aims to analyze the effect of quality and facilities of public tourism spaces on visitor satisfaction at Tengku Syarifah Aminah Park, Siak. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey method, with data collected from 100 visitors through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicate that quality and facilities have a positive and significant effect on visitor satisfaction, both partially and simultaneously. These findings suggest that improving the quality of management and facilities of public tourism spaces directly contributes to better visitor experiences. This study provides practical implications for park managers and local governments in developing visitor-oriented public tourism space management strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of operational constraints faced by the housekeeping department and its implications for service quality at Beverly Hotel Batam. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a case-study method. Data were collected through direct observation, semi-structured interviews with one housekeeping Supervisor and several room attendants, including both permanent staff and daily workers, as well as supporting documentation. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the main operational constraints include limited workforce, inadequate cleaning equipment and supplies, heavy workloads, and low employee motivation. Management addressed these issues through regular training, direct supervision, and more balanced task distribution. Effective management of operational constraints has a positive impact on service quality, particularly in the reliability and responsiveness dimensions of the SERVQUAL model. The study emphasizes the managerial role in maintaining room cleanliness and guest satisfaction within the hotel industry.
