Abstract

With the massive use of technology products such as social media, hate speech has become an inseparable part of society. In today's social life, social media has become a basic need to build social interaction. Human communication built with social media still involves language in various forms of writing. However, when it comes to interpersonal communication, social media users often don't realize that what they write can turn into hate speech. This study examined the phenomenon of using social media in the form of comments and statuses that lead to legal cases that were reviewed by using forensic linguistics. The research was conducted by reviewing the literature and observing documents regarding legal cases that occurred due to hate speech on social media.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a book for writing research articles based on TPACK that were valid, practical, and effective in supporting Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. This book contains technology recommendations that can be used in writing scientific articles and tutorials on how to use them. This development research used the Plomp development model, which consists of three stages, namely the preliminary research phase (early research phase), the development or prototype development phase (development phase), and the assessment phase (assessment phase). The data of this study were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests of writing scientific articles for undergraduate students. Several documents used were questionnaires, observation sheets, and validation sheets. The data were analyzed by using Likert Scale. The result showed that Scientific Writing Book based on TPACK had met the validity, practicality, and effectiveness requirement to support Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students’ ability in writing recount texts at State Senior High School 7 Tanjungbalai during the 2025/2026 academic year. The research was motivated by students’ difficulties in organizing ideas, applying appropriate grammatical structures, and developing coherent recount texts through conventional instructional methods. The study addressed whether the implementation of the PBL model significantly improved students’ writing ability compared to traditional teaching strategies. A quantitative experimental design was employed involving 68 tenth-grade students, consisting of 34 students in the experimental group and 34 students in the control group. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test writing assessments and analyzed using the t-test formula. The findings revealed that the experimental group demonstrated a substantial improvement, with the mean score increasing from 62.2 in the pre-test to 81.5 in the post-test, while the control group improved from 57.6 to 66.8. Statistical analysis showed that the t-observed value (11.14) exceeded the t-table value (1.997) at the significance level of 0.05 with 66 degrees of freedom. The study concludes that the Problem-Based Learning model has a significant positive effect on students’ ability in writing recount texts.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to the world of education, particularly in the development of technology-based learning media. Students, as the digital generation, are required to have adequate digital literacy skills to effectively utilize technology in the learning process. One learning medium that can support digital literacy is K-Visoft Flipbook Maker, software that can convert digital documents into interactive e-books. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to improve the digital literacy skills of FKIP Asahan University students through training on the use of K-Visoft Flipbook Maker. The methods used included preparation, training implementation, mentoring, and evaluation. Forty FKIP Asahan University students participated in the activity. The results showed an increase in students' abilities in developing digital learning media. The average pretest score of 62.4 increased to 86.7 in the posttest. This 24.3-point increase demonstrates the effectiveness of the training in improving students' digital literacy skills. Furthermore, students were able to produce interactive flipbooks that can be used as learning media. Thus, the K-Visoft Flipbook Maker training was effective in improving students' digital literacy skills.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of Discovery Learning Model on students’ ability in writing Descriptive Text. This research employed a quantitative approach with an experimental design. It was conducted at SMA Negeri 3 Tanjungbalai involving 64 eleventh-grade students as the sample, consisting of 32 students in the experimental group (XI-1) and 32 students in the control group (XI-2). The experimental group was taught using the Discovery Learning Model, while the control group received conventional teaching. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test.The findings showed that the mean score of the experimental group increased from 62.3 in the pre-test to 84.8 in the post-test, indicating an improvement of 22.5%. Meanwhile, the control group showed a lower improvement from 55.9 to 65.7, with an increase of 9.8%. Furthermore, the result of the t-test revealed that the t-observed value (18.8) was higher than the t-table value (2.00) at the significance level of 0.05 with 62 degrees of freedom. This indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In conclusion, the implementation of the Discovery Learning Model has a significant positive effect on students’ ability in writing Descriptive Text.
