Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore the religious patterns of the Jemaat Ahmadiyya in Indonesia, with a focus of the study in the villages of Gondrong, Banten and Manislor, Kuningan, West Java, especially about the views related to religious and state relations, and their existence as a ‘minority group’ in Indonesia. Based on a phenomenological approach, wherein the data is obtained by involving the researcher directly in the social process of the study subject, the results of this study show that the relationship between religion and state is understood by Ahmadiya in the framework of the concept of Khilafah; a concept that is believed to be inevitable, as a form of continuous moral guidance from the prophetic system. But in term of operationalization is not oriented towards political practice and does not clash with state ideology. Khilafah is understood only in the context of religion, spirituality, and other religious rites. As a minority group living in pluralistic community culture, the Ahmadiyya sees that the various cases of violence that have befallen their followers are a form of manifestation of the maturity level of the Indonesian people in responding to differences. So, the diversity that exists is still a trigger for potential conflict.

Abstract

Abstract Interfaith marriage in Indonesia remains a deeply contested issue within legal and religious perspectives, particularly following the enactment of Law Number 1 of 1974 and the Supreme Court Circular Letter Number 2 of 2023, both of which reinforce prohibitive norms and impose stricter administrative procedures. In contrast to these state-centered regulations, the Tengger indigenous community on the slopes of Mount Bromo treats interfaith marriage as a legitimate tradition aimed at sustaining social harmony. While existing studies have predominantly focused on normative legal debates and theological controversies, limited attention has been paid to local cultural practices that offer alternative, lived models of coexistence. This gap is crucial because indigenous experiences provide socio-legal insights that are often overlooked in state-centered analyses. Addressing this gap, this article explores how interfaith marriage is understood and practiced within Tengger customary law, examines its implications for Indonesia’s national family law framework, and analyzes the idea of the “miniature Pancasila family” as an expression of legal pluralism at the community level. Drawing on qualitative socio-legal research conducted in Ngadas, Wonokerto, and Ngadisari, the findings show that communal harmony is preserved through the waralaga custom and the philosophical principle of rukun, alongside pragmatic administrative strategies, such as “temporary conversion”, employed to meet state requirements. These insights suggest that Indonesia’s family law could benefit from more contextual and pluralistic approaches that resonate more closely with Pancasila’s foundational values.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic health problem with a high prevalence in the elderly and contributes to increased morbidity and reduced quality of life. Non-pharmacological interventions such as hypertension exercises are needed as promotive and preventive efforts. This community service activity aims to lower blood pressure in the elderly through education and training in hypertension exercises. The implementation method includes blood pressure screening, hypertension education, and routine hypertension exercises for two weeks. A total of 20 elderly people actively participated in this activity. Evaluation results showed a decrease in average blood pressure from 159/97 mmHg to 137/89 mmHg after the intervention. These findings indicate that hypertension exercises are an effective alternative intervention and can be implemented sustainably as part of a community-based hypertension management strategy.

Abstract

The publication of al-Sunnah al-Nabawîyyah bayna Ahl al-Fiqh wa Ahl al-Hadîth (1989) by Muhammad al-Ghazâlî sparked major controversy in the modern Islamic intellectual landscape due to its bold critique of the prevailing tendency toward literalism in the understanding of hadith. The central problem underlying al-Ghazâlî’s thought is the dominance of a textualist approach that rejects rationality and ethical considerations in interpreting the Prophet’s Sunnah. Hadith literalism, he argues, has distanced Islamic teachings from the moral spirit and contextual sensitivity inherent in the objectives of the maqâsid al-sharî‘ah. The present study aims to trace the rational and ethical foundations of Muhammad al-Ghazâlî’s methodology of hadith criticism, and to understand the socio-historical conditions that shaped his views on the relationship between the Quran and the Sunnah. Employing a qualitative research design, this study relies on library-based inquiry into al-Ghazâlî’s primary works and relevant secondary literature. It further applies an ethical-hermeneutical approach to uncover the moral orientation underlying his critique of the literalist tendencies within ahl al-hadith. The findings indicate that Muhammad al-Ghazâlî proposes a dynamic interpretive methodology for hadith interpretation grounded in reason, ethics, and contextual relevance, as part of an effort to revitalize the authority of the Sunnah so that it remains vibrant and capable of engaging with the challenges of modernity. This article contributes to contemporary hadith studies by situating Muhammad al-Ghazâlî’s critique within ongoing debates on literalist interpretation and by reconstructing a more rational and ethically attuned understanding of hadith. By highlighting al-Ghazâlî’s epistemological approach, which evaluates the substance of hadith in light of Quranic values, the study enriches methodological discourse and underscores the dynamic role of the sunnah and its relevance for modern Muslim life.
