Abstract

The implementation of Indonesian Good Agricultural Practices (IndoGAP) in rice farming is becoming increasingly important because it relates to product quality, traceability of cultivation processes, and opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of farmer groups. Challenges arise in the field when cultivation practices are not accompanied by proper record-keeping, making it difficult for groups to demonstrate their activity history and readiness for certification. This article aims to examine strategies for strengthening the implementation of IndoGAP through the development of a rice cultivation logbook for the Nglencong Sari III Farmers’ Group in Dempel Village, Geneng Subdistrict, Ngawi Regency. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews, field observations, and documentation conducted from October to December 2024. The study results indicate that the logbook, which follows the cultivation stages from planning through post-harvest and sanitation, can serve as a simple yet adequate recording tool for traceability. Its implementation tends to be more effective when started with core activities, accompanied by easy-to-understand examples of how to fill it out, driven by the group leader’s role, and reviewed periodically during group meetings. Thus, the cultivation logbook can serve as a practical instrument to strengthen the implementation of IndoGAP while organizing farm management to be more orderly, efficient, and market-oriented.

Abstract

This study discusses the implementation of technology and management in the seed production of catfish (Pangasius sp.) at the Mojokerto Aquaculture Installation (IPB). A descriptive method was employed, involving observation, interviews, active participation, and the use of secondary sources. Artificial spawning was conducted using Ovaprim hormone, and larvae were reared under controlled environmental conditions. The results showed a fertilization rate of 87% and a hatching rate of 91%. The first nursery phase yielded 673,036 fry, while the second nursery phase produced 538,560 fry, with respective survival rates of 71.5% and 80%. Key success factors included high-quality broodstock selection, proper feed and water quality management, and the use of effective aeration technology. However, challenges such as limited availability of quality broodstock, water quality fluctuations, and lack of skilled personnel persist. The study concludes that the application of modern hatchery technology can significantly improve catfish seed production and has potential for replication in other regions.

Abstract

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) culture faces water quality challenges due to the accumulation of metabolic waste and uneaten feed. Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) can improve water quality, but commercial filter media are relatively expensive for small-scale farmers. Waste materials such as mussel shells, eggshells, and zeolite have potential as economical alternatives. Therefore, research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of waste-based filter media in maintaining water quality and fish growth. This study aimed to analyze the effect of waste filter media in RAS on water quality and tilapia growth and to determine an economical alternative for small-scale farmers. A descriptive study was conducted for 28 days in Bungah Village, Gresik, using three filter media treatments. The treatments consisted of P1 (foam + mussel shell + bioball), P2 (foam + eggshell + bioball), and P3 (foam + zeolite + bioball) with a stocking density of 14 fish per aquarium. Observed parameters included pH, growth (WG, SGR), and FCR. Results showed that all treatments-maintained pH within the optimal range with minimal fluctuation. Treatments P1 and P3 produced higher growth compared to the others. FCR values in all treatments indicated good and relatively similar feed efficiency. Mussel shell and zeolite media provided more consistent biological performance. Eggshell media also maintained water quality although growth was slightly lower. Overall, waste-based filter media performed comparably to commercial filters. Waste filter media in RAS effectively maintained water quality and supported tilapia growth. Utilization of waste materials has potential as an economical alternative for small-scale farmers.
