Abstract

Mental health is a multidimensional aspect of human well-being, encompassing emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual components. In religiously devout societies such as Indonesia, spiritual and communal values deeply influence how mental health is perceived and addressed. This study explores psychospiritual and socioreligious approaches to mental health by comparing Islamic and Christian perspectives. Through a qualitative-descriptive method and library-based research, the study draws upon classical theological texts, scriptural sources, and contemporary literature to analyze religious coping mechanisms, core spiritual values, and their integration into mental well-being. Findings reveal that Islam emphasizes al-nafs al-muṭma’innah (the tranquil soul), achieved through tazkiyat al-nafs (self-purification), devotion, and social responsibility. Christianity, meanwhile, centers on shalom (divine peace), fostered through personal relationship with God, hope, and communal worship. Both traditions offer distinct but complementary coping strategies that connect inner resilience with faith-based practices and collective religious life. By situating mental health within theological and sociocultural frameworks, this study contributes to the development of integrative models that bridge psychological care, spiritual meaning, and community-based support—particularly in multireligious and culturally rooted contexts.

Abstract

This study explores the political education program of the United Development Party (Partai Persatuan Pembangunan/PPP) in Deli Serdang Regency and its role in shaping the political awareness and participation of local communities. The research is driven by the question: How does PPP contribute to political socialization and civic engagement in Deli Serdang through its political outreach and organizational strategies? Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with PPP officials, community members, and political observers, as well as document analysis of party programs and local government reports. The findings reveal that PPP’s political programs—such as public forums, youth engagement activities, and religious-cultural events—have provided a structured platform for increasing political literacy, fostering democratic values, and promoting civic responsibility among constituents. However, the impact of these programs varies across demographic groups and is often constrained by limited resources and partisan fragmentation. The study concludes that while PPP's initiatives have contributed meaningfully to community-level political development, greater institutional support and broader participation are essential for sustained impact and inclusivity in the political process.

Abstract

Plurality in Indonesia has been dealt with a variety of religious sects that hold ‘controversial’ concepts of aqidah (religious creeds). Example includes the Qadiani Ahmadiyya and the Jehovah's Witnesses. This paper aims to study the core of religious teachings of the two sects, and how they are different from the mainstream. This work is a qualitative research with a comparative method, used to explore the diversity of religious understandings of the sects under study. This work found that both sects share some similarities as well as differences. concludes that there are similarities and differences between the two. The Qadiani Ahmadiyya denies Muhammad as the last messenger and believes that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad who is a prophet, and has received God’s revelation. Meanwhile, the Jehovah's Witnesses rejects the doctrine of Trinity and hellfire, believing that mankind will live eternally and God almighty will not torment people forever in hell. It can be concluded that these understandings are considered unique and often seen as deviating from the mainstream teachings.

Abstract

This article examines the symbolic transformation and cultural Islamization of the Kembar Mayang ritual among the Javanese diaspora community in Aek Hitetoras, North Sumatra. Drawing on a qualitative case study approach, the research is grounded in the anthropology of religion and based on in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of documentary materials. Findings reveal that Kembar Mayang, once rooted in ancestral cosmology and mystical practice, has been reinterpreted through deliberate negotiation and adaptation. Traditional elements such as offerings and incantations have largely been replaced by Islamic prayers and Qur’anic recitation, reflecting the community’s commitment to religious orthodoxy while sustaining collective identity and social cohesion. The adaptation process has been incremental and dialogical, involving pragmatic adjustments in ritual materials and the creative use of digital media for documentation and intergenerational transmission. Contestation between cultural and religious perspectives has generated both tension and innovation, ultimately enabling the ritual to endure as a meaningful expression of gratitude, harmony, and heritage. The study contributes to broader debates in the anthropology of religion and diaspora studies, illustrating how local traditions are dynamically negotiated and renewed through cultural ijtihad, recontextualization, and digital innovation. Practical implications highlight the importance of inclusive dialogue, intergenerational education, and flexible preservation strategies for sustaining tradition within plural and rapidly changing societies.

Abstract

Exegesis of Scientific nowadays has become a lot of discussion, including about the pros and cons around the methodology of interpreting science, the second is about the dichotomic phenomenon between scientific truth and the truth of the Qur'an or secularization in understanding the Qur'an, the above problems can be classified into two part, the first is an internal problem, the second is an external problem. This research is a literature study, a qualitative model with critical-reflective analysis. The results of this study are that the interpretation of science is not the interpretation that negates the interpretation of the previous scholars and changes it to a new one, nor does it desacralize the verses of the Qur'an, but its position is as an addition and expansion of the classical interpretation, with some terms and conditions as commentators with a style science.

Abstract

This paper aims to elucidate Thaha Husain's thoughts on the use of pre-Islamic poetry in the exegesis of the Quran. Husain was a contemporary Islamic thinker who emphasized the importance of Islamic reasoning in the effort to reconstruct a comprehensive understanding of the Quranic text. The focus of the study primarily addresses the authenticity of pre-Islamic poetry, its urgency in interpreting the Quran, and how the Quran views pre-Islamic Arab society. Husain perceives that Quranic teachings align with rational thought. He endeavors to reconstruct Islamic thought through hermeneutical and critical-historical approaches, particularly through literary and historical lenses. This research indicates that much of the pre-Islamic poetry was not composed during the pre-Islamic era by pre-Islamic Arab poets but by imitators during the Abbasid Dynasty for various purposes: political, religious, storytelling, and hadith narrators. According to Thaha Husain, many pre-Islamic poems do not resonate with pre-Islamic Arabs or objectively depict pre-Islamic Arab society. Husain employs Western scientific concepts such as semiology, philology, and Cartesian deconstruction as analytical tools in examining the Quran. It is not surprising that Husain's skepticism in evaluating pre-Islamic Arab literature has stirred controversy in Egypt.
