Abstract

The vaccination discourse is one of the discourses that is always reported by the mass media because of the increasing cases of Covid-19. News about vaccinations elicited various responses from the public. This study aimed to examine the strategy of online media news related to the vaccination discourse that had resulted in various public responses. The research was conducted using Theo van Leeuwen’s theory on critical discourse analysis. Four online media consisting of KOMPAS.com, detik.com, Liputan6.com, and Tribunnews.com were chosen as data sources for this research. This study uses a qualitative method. Data in the form of phrases, clauses, and sentences were collected through reading and note-taking techniques. Then, the data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. The research results showed that the online media of KOMPAS.com, detik.com, Liputan6.com, and Tribunnews.com used exclusion and inclusion strategies in producing news discourse.  However, KOMPAS.com and detik.com online media tended to use exclusion strategies that included passivation, nominalization, and substitute clauses. Furthermore, Liputan6.com and Tribunnews.com online media tended to use inclusion strategies such as nomination-categorization, nomination-identification, and differentiation-indifference. Commonly, in this vaccination discourse, the news written by these four online media were not over-criticizing the government but more emphasized driving opinions concerning various public responses  to vaccination. These findings suggest readers to read information in the mass media critically. Thus, readers are not easily influenced by the conflicts that are reported

Abstract

Lexical innovation is a linguistic phenomenon that reflects the dynamic development of language amid social change and the rise of digital culture. This study aims to describe the forms of lexical innovation used by Generation Z speakers of Acehnese in their everyday interactions, particularly within the domain of digital communication. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. The data consist of authentic utterances collected from online conversations on WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok, recordings of face-to-face interactions, and informal interviews with Generation Z speakers. The data were gathered through non-participant observation, documentation of screenshot messages, and responsive interviewing. The analysis draws on theories of lexical innovation and the framework of contextual clues to word-making to examine how new lexical forms are created, how their functions shift, and how their meanings change.The findings reveal that Generation Z produces lexical innovations through four main mechanisms: (1) adaptation of Indonesian slang, (2) phonological modification, (3) morphological play, and (4) semantic shift. Forms such as emang boleh, sapay, gemoy, lucknut, misqueen, ani-ani, online, and di luar jangkauan illustrate how elements of Indonesian, English, and digital-technology discourse are utilized to create new variations within Acehnese speech. These innovations serve to express humor, social closeness, evaluation, and generational identity. The study demonstrates that the Acehnese language continues to adapt to technological developments and the communicative patterns of the digital generation, revealing linguistic creativity that contributes to sustaining the vitality of regional languages in contemporary digital communication. Abstrak Inovasi leksikal merupakan salah satu fenomena kebahasaan yang menunjukkan dinamika perkembangan bahasa di tengah perubahan sosial dan budaya digital. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk inovasi leksikal yang digunakan oleh Generasi Z penutur bahasa Aceh dalam interaksi sehari-hari, khususnya pada ranah komunikasi digital. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian berupa tuturan autentik yang diperoleh dari percakapan daring pada WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, rekaman interaksi langsung, dan wawancara informal dengan penutur Generasi Z. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi nonpartisipatif, dokumentasi tangkapan layar percakapan, serta wawancara responsif. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan teori inovasi leksikal dan kerangka contextual clues to word-making untuk melihat proses pembentukan, perubahan fungsi, dan pergeseran makna bentuk-bentuk leksikal tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Generasi Z menghasilkan inovasi leksikal melalui empat mekanisme utama: (1) adaptasi slang bahasa Indonesia, (2) modifikasi fonologis, (3) pelesetan morfologis, dan (4) pergeseran makna. Bentuk-bentuk seperti emang boleh, sapay, gemoy, lucknut, misqueen, ani-ani, online, dan di luar jangkauan menunjukkan bagaimana unsur bahasa Indonesia, bahasa Inggris, dan teknologi digital dimanfaatkan untuk membentuk variasi baru dalam tuturan bahasa Aceh. Inovasi tersebut berfungsi untuk mengekspresikan humor, keakraban sosial, penilaian, dan identitas generasi muda. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa bahasa Aceh terus menyesuaikan diri dengan perkembangan teknologi dan pola komunikasi generasi digital, serta memperlihatkan kreativitas linguistik yang berperan dalam mempertahankan vitalitas bahasa daerah dalam praktik komunikasi era digital.

Abstract

The presidential debate is a pivotal moment in the election process that influences public opinion about candidates. This study aims to analyze public sentiment regarding the 2024 presidential debate through comments on the live broadcast of the debate on the official YouTube channel of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU RI). A qualitative descriptive method was employed for this research. The data comprised comments collected from the live-streamed debate on the KPU RI’s official YouTube channel using a web scraping technique, utilizing the Python library chat-downloader to extract public comments from the debate videos. The data were analyzed using the BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) model adapted for the Indonesian language. The findings revealed that during the first debate, neutral comments dominated (76.3%), followed by positive comments (14.7%) and negative comments (9.0%). Sentiment toward the Anies-Muhaimin pair was predominantly positive (47.5%), while the Prabowo-Gibran pair faced a dominance of negative sentiment (34.5%). The Ganjar-Mahfud pair received mostly neutral sentiment (50.2%). During the second debate, overall negative sentiment increased to 32.1%, while positive sentiment decreased to 27.8%. A word cloud analysis revealed that terms like mantap (excellent), cerdas (intelligent), and menang (win) frequently appeared in positive comments, whereas terms like blunder and janji manis (sweet promises) dominated negative sentiment, highlighting public focus on the candidates’ conveyed issues. These findings illustrate the dynamics of public opinion during the debates and provide strategic insights for the KPU and campaign teams in crafting more effective communication strategies. AbstrakDebat calon presiden (capres) merupakan momen penting dalam pemilihan presiden yang memengaruhi opini publik terhadap kandidat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis sentimen publik terhadap debat capres tahun 2024 melalui komentar pada siaran langsung YouTube Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) RI. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian ini berupa komentar yang diperoleh dari siaran langsung debat Capres di saluran YouTube resmi Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) RI. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan teknik web scraping, dengan memanfaatkan pustaka Python chat-downloader untuk mengunduh komentar-komentar publik dari video debat. Data dianalisis dengan model BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) yang diadaptasi untuk bahasa Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada debat pertama, komentar netral mendominasi (76,3%), diikuti oleh komentar positif (14,7%) dan negatif (9,0%). Sentimen terhadap pasangan Anies-Muhaimin didominasi positif (47,5%), sementara pasangan Prabowo-Gibran menghadapi dominasi sentimen negatif (34,5%). Pasangan Ganjar-Mahfud lebih banyak menerima sentimen netral (50,2%). Pada debat kedua, sentimen negatif secara keseluruhan meningkat menjadi 32,1%, sementara sentimen positif menurun menjadi 27,8%. Analisis word cloud mengungkapkan bahwa istilah seperti mantap, cerdas, dan menang sering muncul dalam komentar positif, sementara istilah seperti blunder dan janji manis mendominasi sentimen negatif, menunjukkan fokus publik pada isu-isu yang disampaikan kandidat. Temuan ini menggambarkan dinamika opini publik selama debat dan memberikan masukan strategis bagi KPU serta tim kampanye dalam menyusun strategi komunikasi yang lebih efektif.

Abstract

Meurukon is a well-known Islamic art in an Acehnese society that live in the northernmost of Sumatera Island, Indonesia. Very little research has raised meurukon as the research subject to analyze its theological elements. This study aims at describing the theology in Meurukon and the use of Meurukon as a medium for learning theology. This qualitative research gathered data by collecting Meurukon manuscripts from Rahman (2010) and Huda (2018), and interviewing eight informants. The results showed that the main theological issues discussed in Meurukon are the nature of religion and the nature of God, faith, Islam, classification of Allah’s 20 attributes, faith in angels, doomsday sign, the foundation of prayer, and the Apostle's command. The analysis has also found that Meurukon as a medium for learning theology is used through compulsory activities in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), extracurricular activities in schools, routine activities in celebrating religious holidays, competitions between villages, districts, and cities, broadcasts on television media, rice harvest parties, and teaching materials or courses at literary and art universities.  AbstrakMeurukon merupakan salah satu kesenian Islam yang dikenal luas dalam masyarakat Aceh yang mendiami wilayah paling utara Pulau Sumatra, Indonesia. Sangat sedikit penelitian yang mengangkat meurukon sebagai objek kajian untuk menganalisis unsur-unsur teologis yang terkandung di dalamnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan aspek-aspek teologi dalam meurukon serta pemanfaatan meurukon sebagai media pembelajaran teologi. Penelitian kualitatif ini mengumpulkan data melalui pengkajian naskah-naskah meurukon yang dihimpun oleh Rahman (2010) dan Huda (2018), serta wawancara dengan delapan informan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persoalan-persoalan teologis utama yang dibahas dalam meurukon meliputi hakikat agama dan hakikat Tuhan, iman, Islam, klasifikasi dua puluh sifat Allah, iman kepada malaikat, tanda-tanda hari kiamat, dasar-dasar salat, serta perintah-perintah Rasul. Analisis juga menemukan bahwa meurukon sebagai media pembelajaran teologi dimanfaatkan melalui kegiatan wajib di pesantren, kegiatan ekstrakurikuler di sekolah, kegiatan rutin dalam peringatan hari-hari besar keagamaan, perlombaan antardesa, antarkecamatan, dan antarkota, siaran di media televisi, pesta panen padi, serta sebagai bahan ajar atau mata kuliah di perguruan tinggi bidang sastra dan seni.

Abstract

This study examines politeness and impoliteness in Acehnese speech variations conveyed through various linguistic features, including honorifics, politeness markers, and respectful forms of address. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, commencing with observation in different social settings in Acehnese society to identify instances of polite and impolite speech. The data for this study consists of oral data obtained from 13 informants residing in North Aceh, Aceh Pidie, Aceh Besar, and South West Aceh. Data were collected using direct observation techniques and free recall techniques. To ensure well-documented data collection, the researcher recorded the data in manual notes and electronic recordings. Data analysis was conducted using contextual methods. The results demonstrate that in Acehnese language, the politeness and grammaticality of an utterance are highly dependent on the region of use or dialect. Generally, in Acehnese, language is considered polite if the utterance uses proclitics corresponding to the actor in a sentence. However, in the South West Aceh dialect, this rule does not apply. In this dialect, language politeness does not rely on the regular use of proclitics. Proclitics are usually not used in speech and should be attached to the verb, given in the repetition of the subject as the doer of the action. Additionally, politeness in this language is highly dependent on pronouns. Conversely, the rules for using honorific pronouns in other dialects do not measure politeness and grammaticality.
