Research has been carried out entitled Digital Learning Media in Learning to Write Poetry for Middle School Students. This research aims to determine the influence of digital learning media on the learning outcomes of class VIII students at SMPN 02 Woja. This type of research is quantitative research using the Quasi Experimental Design method, especially the non-equivalent control group design type. From the learning results obtained before treatment, both the experimental class and the control class showed the same abilities. Next, the posttest value data was tested. The results of the posttest analysis show that the average score for the experimental class is 51.21, while the average score for the control class is 41.70. Based on inferential statistical analysis of the posttest scores, it was found that the calculated t value (t_count) was 1.99 greater than the t table value (t-table) of 1.669. This shows that H0 (null hypothesis) is rejected and H1 (alternative hypothesis) is accepted.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the challenges and needs of students in learning English at SMKN 1 Hu'u Dompu, especially in the culinary and tourism programs. This study used a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews with two English teachers. The results showed that students faced difficulties in speaking, pronunciation, and low learning motivation due to irrelevant materials. This study suggests the development of English books specifically for culinary and tourism majors with an interactive and context-based approach, integration of local Dompu culture, and the use of digital technology such as digital books with AI-assisted audio to improve pronunciation skills. The combination of technology, local context, and relevant materials can create a more engaging and effective learning experience for students.

Abstract

There have been studies which exploring students’ perception on the use of kahoot!. However, research on investigating students’ opinion on the implementation of kahoot and students’ recommendation for educational stake-holders is uncommon. This study relies on semi-structured interview data from 15 second-year students (10 female and 5 male) enrolling in the Introduction to Linguistics Class in English Education Department of STKIP Yapis Dompu. This study aims to explore the benefits of the use of kahoot, the barriers and students’ recommendation to educational stake-holders for improvement. The data were analysed using thematic analysis adapted from (Braun & Clarke, 2006) which consists of 6 steps. The finding of this paper suggested that the implementation of kahoot in learning process had four benefits: Firstly, Kahoot creates fun and interested learning atmosphere. Secondly, it riggers students’ attention and focus. Thirdly, it facilitates comprehension of material Taught. Lastly, Kahoot! fosters positive competitiveness among students. Additionally; there were two main barriers of using kahoot in this research: firstly, limitations on internet access. Secondly, not enough time to answer. The surprising conclusion of the research was that, all participants had never been exposed to game-based learning platform during their formal school (elementary and high school); they only were only exposed to game-based learning platform at this introduction to linguistics class. Therefore; all participants highly recommended to all lecturers and teachers to game-based learning platform in their teaching. This study relied on game-based learning platform kahoot. Therefore, similar study which explores other game-based learning platforms is highly recommended.

The significant findings of this research is that the phrase kalembo ade and its lexical English translation enlarge heart have the same morphological rules which both are composed of prefix + adjective and noun. Syntactically, the phrase kalembo ade has the same syntactical rule with its lexical English translation enlarge heart. The two phrases are occupied by Verb Phrase (VP) which the transitive verbs enlarge and kalembo function as predicate (P), and the words ade and heart are occupied by Noun Phrase (NP) whose function as a Direct Object (DO). Another important finding in this study is that in everyday communication, Kalembo Ade has various meanings and functions based on the context uttered such as sorry in expression of apology, be patient in expression of sympathy or condolence, and be advised in asking one’s understandings. Similar studies which investigate morphological, syntactical, and semantic rules of other phrases are highly recommended for future studies.
