Abstract

This study aims to determine a comparative map of local financial capacity of Kerinci Regency Government and Sungai Penu Municipality in Jambi, taking into account share and growth values and using the quadrant method. Based on the survey results, Kerinci County is known to be located in the third quadrant and is classified as an independent prospective region. In addition, the region faces difficulties in exploring resource potential within the region as it relies on central government support. Quadrant III is characterized by PAD and DBH playing a major role in financing overall spending, but with the opportunity to experience declines due to lower growth rates. Sungai Penuh City belongs to the first quadrant classified as an independent potential region, but this quadrant is characterized by high market share and high growth value. Therefore, local governments are expected to maintain local independence in order to reduce their dependence on localities to achieve full local autonomy.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the impact of economic growth, poverty rate, and unemployment rate on community welfare in Jambi Province from 2015 to 2024, measured by the Human Development Index (HDI). The study aims to provide empirical evidence on how these socioeconomic factors collectively and individually influence regional welfare. Design/Methodology/Approach: A quantitative explanatory research design was employed using annual time-series secondary data. Multiple linear regression analysis with the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method was applied. To ensure robustness, stationarity tests, cointegration tests, and classical assumption tests were conducted to avoid spurious regression and satisfy econometric requirements. Findings: The results demonstrate that economic growth, poverty, and unemployment have a significant simultaneous effect on community welfare. Partially, economic growth positively affects HDI, poverty exerts a negative impact, and unemployment shows a positive association with HDI during the study period. Research Implications: The findings highlight the importance of comprehensive regional development policies that not only promote economic growth but also focus on poverty alleviation and human capital development through sustained investments in education, healthcare, and social protection. The observed relationship between unemployment and welfare underscores the need for integrated employment strategies aligned with broader human development objectives.

Abstract

Environmental quality is an essential indicator for supporting sustainable development. As a region characterized by intensive economic activities, Sumatra Island faces various environmental challenges arising from economic growth, population expansion, energy consumption, transportation activities, and investment flows. This study aims to examine the effects of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), population, energy consumption, the number of motor vehicles, the Human Development Index (HDI), and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on environmental quality in Sumatra Island while considering spatial interactions among regions. The study employs panel data from ten provinces in Sumatra during the period 2019–2023. The analysis was conducted using the Spatial Error Model with Random Effects (SEM-RE) after performing Moran’s I spatial autocorrelation test and selecting the most appropriate spatial model. The results indicate that GRDP has a negative and significant effect on environmental quality. In contrast, HDI and FDI have positive and significant effects on environmental quality. Meanwhile, population, energy consumption, and the number of motor vehicles do not significantly affect environmental quality. The spatial parameter value of 0.545 indicates the presence of significant spatial dependence among regions. These findings suggest that environmental quality in a province is influenced not only by internal factors but also by environmental conditions in neighboring regions. Therefore, regionally integrated environmental policies are required to improve environmental quality across Sumatra Island.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of key human development indicators in Jambi Province from 2017 to 2024, including the Human Development Index (HDI), Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita, Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Open Unemployment Rate (OUR), and the poverty rate. Using panel data regression across districts and cities in Jambi with EViews 13, the study examines the influence of economic and labor variables on the HDI. The results show that GRDP per capita and OUR have a positive and significant effect on the HDI, indicating that higher income and workforce participation improve overall living standards. Conversely, poverty has a significant negative effect, while LFPR shows no significant impact, suggesting that labor quantity is not yet supported by sufficient quality and productivity
