Abstract

Excessive usage of synthetic pediculicides, such as permethrin, lindane, and malathion, can induce resistance, environmental pollution, health problems, and even death. Efforts to prevent the side-effects of synthetic pediculicides are needed, one of which is by shifting to powerful yet safe natural pediculicides, such as Citrus limon (lemon) and Allium sativum (garlic). This study aimed to observe the effective concentration of Citrus limon and Allium sativum in vitro on the mortality of Pediculus humanus capitis (P. h. capitis). This research was an experimental laboratory study conducted in July to September 2019 in the Laboratory of Parasitology at Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau, while the making of Allium sativum extract was done at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, University of Riau. A total of 288 samples of adult P. h. capitis was taken from children in two orphanages in Pekanbaru. Citrus limon juice and Allium sativum extract of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% concentrations, permethrin 1% as the positive control, and distilled water as the negative control were used in this study, and repetition was done three times. P. h. capitis mortality was observed every 10 - 120 minutes, characterized by the absence of movement of the legs and antenna. Data analysis was performed after 120 minutes with the one-way ANOVA test, LSD (=0.05), and Lethal Concentration 50 test (LC50). The one-way ANOVA test results of this study showed that statistically Citrus limon juice and Allium sativum extracts showed differences in each treatment formulation of juice on P. h. capitis mortality (Sig 0.017<0.05 and Sig 0.000<0.05) and LC50 juice of Citrus limon and Allium sativum extract by 51.999% and 72.426%. In this study, Citrus limon juice and Allium sativum extract had effect as pediculicides.

Abstract

Infeksi parasit usus merupakan penyakit endemik yang menyebabkan masalah kesehatan di negara berkembang seperti Indonesia. Diagnosa parasit usus memerlukan teknik pemeriksaan yang sensitif dan biaya murah. Teknik konsentrasi formol eter (formol eter concentration/FEC) merupakan salah satu teknik pemeriksaan dengan sampel feses untuk mendeteksi parasit usus dengan prinsip sedimentasi. Tehnik ini merupakan salah satu tehnik yang ekonomis, mudah dilakukan, dan meningkatkan jumlah penemuan parasit usus karena dapat memisahkan debris dari feses. Tujuan: Mengetahui teknik konsentrasi formol eter dalam mendiagnosa parasit usus. Tinjauan Pustaka: Prevalensi infeksi parasit usus masih cukup tinggi di negara berkembang akibat kurangnya sanitasi dan buruknya higiene, sehingga diperlukan suatu teknik pemeriksaan yang bisa mendeteksi kista protozoa, larva, dan telur cacing. Teknik FEC menggunakan formalin 10% dalam air sebagai penstabil dan eter sebagai pelarut. Teknik FEC tidak merusak organisme dalam sampel feses, dapat mengetahui parasit usus dengan sampel feses sedikit, dan ekonomis. Beberapa penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teknik FEC lebih baik daripada teknik direct wet mount dalam mendiagnosa parasit usus. Simpulan:  Teknik FEC merupakan salah satu teknik pemeriksaan yang sensitif dan ekonomis dan dapat digunakan sebagai pilihan untuk mendiagnosa parasit usus.

Abstract

Taenia solium taeniasis (taeniasis) and cysticercosis in human are infectious diseases caused by pork tapeworm Taenia solium. They are  zoonotic diseases and still a health problem in the world, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. The prevalence of taeniasis and cysticercosis in Indonesia is still quite high at 2% - 48% with the highest prevalence in Papua. Human taeniasis can manifest as a asymptomatic or intestinal minimally symptomatic. Cysticercosis can involve of neural tissue (neurocysticercosis) may manifest epilepsy seizure, headache, neurological symptom, cognitive disabilities, and death.  The habit of eating raw or undercooked  pork, lack of sanitation, and a lack of supervision the slaughterhouse are some of the factors causing taeniasis and cysticercosis in human. Avoiding eating raw pork, cooking meat over temperature 54oC, supervision at slaughterhouses, and maintaining hygiene is a way to prevent taeniasis and cysticercosis, therefore it is necesarry to do more intensive programs to prevent and control the diseases.

Abstract

Background: Cases of multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) is increasing in number in the world and requires early detection to prevent further transmission. GeneXpert MTB/RIF is a tool that can be used for detection of rifampicin resistance, as a surrogate marker for MDR TB. This study aims to assess the sensitivity and specificity of the GeneXpert MTB/RIF in diagnosis of MDR TB. Methods: diagnostic test study was conducted at a poly MDR TB General Hospital Haji Adam Malik Medan. The subjects were all suspected MDR TB who had results positive GeneXpert MTB/ RIF with sensitive rifampin or resistant  rifampin and had a drug sensitivity test results with the proportion method Lowenstein Jensen medium. Data retrieved from the medical records, between January until December 2013. Results: founded 64 samples that had results of GeneXpert MTB/RIF test positive and had the results of drug sensitivity, 87.5% of rifampin-resistant samples were also resistant to isoniazid. The GeneXpert MTB/RIF examination showed the sensitivity of 92.86% and the specificitu of 59.09%. Conclusion: GeneXpert MTB/ RIF has a high sensitivity for diagnosing MDR TB compared the gold standard drug sensitivity testing proportion method on Lowenstein Jensen medium. This study recommends the GeneXpert MTB/RIF be used for MDR TB screening tool. Keywords: GeneXpert MTB/RIF, multidrug resistant tuberculosis, drug susceptibility test, Lowenstein Jensen medium

Abstract

Personal hygiene is an effort to maintain personal hygiene and health. Knowledge about personal hygiene needs to be known by children from an early age so that children avoid diseases such as worms, dental caries, and others. Increased knowledge will improve personal hygiene behavior in a better behavior. This community service activity aimed to increase children's knowledge about personal hygiene, improve personal hygiene behavior, and to find out the description of dental and oral health in children at the Baiturrahmah Orphanage, Kampar Regency. The method used in this community service activity was education, dental and oral health check up. This community service activities began with pretest, education, post test, and dental and oral health check up. The results of this service activity showed an increase in knowledge about personal hygiene, especially about dental and oral health, as well as hand washing WHO 6 steps by 18.01%, there were 59.26% of children suffering from dental and oral diseases such as superficial caries, chronic pulpitis, pulp gangrene, pulp polyps, crowding, and impacted teeth. It is necessary to carry out routine dental and oral health check up on children at the Baiturrahmah Orphanage and familiarize children with good personal hygiene behavior.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a potentially fatal disease that threatening global health, including Indonesia. Various efforts have been made to control DHF, one of them is by means of vector control. Household based insecticides are widely used by the community in controlling insect vectors, including Ae.aegypti as the main vector of DHF. This study aimed to describe the use of household insecticides in the Tangkerang Barat Sub District, Marpoyan Damai District. This study was conducted in September-November 2022 with a total of 100 respondents. The sample selection technique used was simple random sampling from 4 RWs. Data collection was carried out using guided interviews with 4 questions to respondents who used insecticides. Data analysis was carried out using univariate analysis. This study showed that almost all respondents (98%) used household insecticides, the most widely used type of formulation was aerosol (51%), active ingredient was dimeflutrin 0.02%; cypermethrin 0.10% (25.5%), used once a day (75.5%) and used at night (98%). Improper use of household insecticides can have negative effects on the environment, humans, and the occurrence of resistance. Mosquito Nest Eradication needs to be further improved in controlling Ae.aegypti.

Abstract

Insecticide resistant of Aedes aegypti populations is one of the main problems in controlling dengue hemorrhagic fever vectors because it will produce resistant offspring. This study aimed to determine the insecticide susceptibilty status of Ae. aegypti to 5% malathion, 0,75% permethrin, and 0,1% bendiocarb in Tangkerang Timur Village, Tenayan Raya District, Pekanbaru. This study is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. The resistance test method in this study was the World Health Organization (WHO) susceptibility test method with impregnated paper (5% malation, 0,75% permethrin, and 0,1% bendiocarb). The larval that were reared into adult mosquitoes were collected from 100 houses in Tangkerang Timur Village. Total adult mosquitoes aged 3-5 days tested in this study were 100  mosquitoes. The test mosquitoes were exposed to impregnated paper for 1 hour and the number of knock down mosquitoes was counted. Mosquito mortality was counted after 24 hours. The results of the susceptibility test in this study showed the mortality of Ae. aegypti to 5% malathion, 0,75% permethrin, and 0,1% bendiocarb were 100%, 85%, and 3.75%. The results of this study indicated that Ae. Aegypti has been resistant to 0,75% permethrin and 0,1% bendiocarb and susceptible to 5% malathion.

Malathion merupakan salah satu jenis insektisida yang telah lama digunakan dalam pemberantasan vektor Demam Berdarah Dengue (DBD) yaitu Aedes aegypti (Ae.aegypti) Pemakaian insektisida dalam jangka waktu lama dapat menimbulkan efek samping seperti resistensi. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui status resistensi A.aegypti terhadap malathion 0,8% di Kelurahan Labuh Baru Timur. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional deskriptif dengan desain cross-sectional. Larva Ae.aegypti diambil dari 4 RW di Kelurahan Labuh Baru Timur, kemudian dibawa ke laboratorium Parasitologi Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Riau untuk dipelihara menjadi nyamuk dewasa. Metode uji resistensi yang digunakan adalah metode susceptibility test WHO dengan impregnated paper malathion 0,8%. Nyamuk dipindahkan tabung paparan yang sudah diberi malathion 0,8% dan tabung kontrol masing-masing sebanyak 25 ekor kemudian diamati selama 1 jam untuk melihat nyamuk knockdown. Selanjutnya nyamuk Ae.aegypti dipindahkan ke holding tube, diletakkan pada ruangan selama 24 jam kemudian dihitung mortalitas nyamuk. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan mortalitas nyamuk Ae.aegypti 24 jam setelah paparn malathion 0,8% adalah 10%. Pemakaian insektisida dalam jangka waktu lama tidak efektif untuk mengeliminasi vektor demam berdarah karena dapat menimbulkan resistensi. Status resistensi nyamuk A.aegypti di Kelurahan Labuh Baru Timur terhadap malathion 0,8% adalah resisten. Perlu adanya rotasi pemakaian malathion dalam pengendalian Ae.aegyptisebagai vektor DBD. Abstract

Healthy and strong children can be formed from the consumption of a balanced nutritious meal. Unbalanced nutritional intake will cause problems for the growth and development of children. Healthy children are also characterized by healthy teeth and mouth. Bad breath (halitosis) can cause health problems and can affect children's self-confidence. This community service activity was carried out at the Aulia Al-Ikhlas Orphanage, Kampar Regency, Pekanbaru. This activity was held on August 7, 2022. This activity was attended by 19 children aged 7-17 years old from the Aulia Al-Ikhlas Orphanage. This community service activity was carried out in three stages: education about balanced nutrition meal and bad breath prevention, demonstration of how to brush your teeth, and anthropometric examination. The results of community service activities seen from the pretest and posttest scores showed that there was an increase in knowledge about balanced nutrition and prevention of bad-smelling breath by 76,48%. The results of the anthropometric examination revealed that children with normal nutritional status were 78.96%, 10.52% with overweight, and obese. Through this community service activity, it is hoped that children will have a variety of food with a balanced nutritional pattern and maintain of dental and oral health. Abstrak Anak yang sehat dan kuat dapat terbentuk dari konsumsi pangan yang bergizi seimbang. Asupan gizi yang tidak seimbang akan menimbulkan masalah pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak. Anak yang sehat juga ditandai dengan kesehatan gigi dan mulut. Bau mulut (halitosis) dapat menimbulkan gangguan kesehatan dan dapat mempengaruhi rasa percaya diri anak. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan di Panti Asuhan Aulia Al-Ikhlas Kabupaten Kampar, Pekanbaru. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada 7 Agustus 2022. Kegiatan ini dihadiri 19 orang anak Panti Asuhan Aulia Al-Ikhlas berusia 7-17 tahun. Pada kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dalam tiga tahap yaitu edukasi tentang gizi seimbang dan pencegahan bau mulut, demonstrasi cara sikat gigi, dan pemeriksaan antropometri. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian yang dilihat dari nilai pretest dan post-test menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan tentang gizi seimbang dan pencegahan bau mulut sebesar 76,48%. Hasil pemeriksaan antropometri diketahui bahwa anak dengan status gizi baik 78,96%, 10,52% status gizi lebih dan obesitas. Melalui kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini diharapkan anak-anak makan makanan yang beragam dengan pola gizi seimbang dan menjaga kesehatan gigi dan mulut.
