Abstract

Secara empiris biji alpukat dan biji pepaya digunakan sebagai antidiabetes. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan konsentrasi yang efektif terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) dari kombinasi infusa biji alpukat  dan biji pepaya varietas Bangkok. Penelitian ini menggunakan 24 ekor tikus yang dibagi dalam 8 kelompok yaitu 2 kelompok kontrol (normal dan negatif), 2 kelompok perlakuan yang diberikan infus biji alpukat dan biji pepaya, 3 kelompok perlakuan yang diberikan kombinasi infus biji alpukat dan biji pepaya konsentrasi 0,4% v/v, 0,6% v/v, dan 0,8% v/v, dan 1 kelompok pembanding yang diberikan glibenklamid. Semua kelompok perlakuan diberikan sediaan uji secara oral selama 14 hari. Sebelum perlakuan tikus terlebih dahulu diinduksi dengan aloksan 120 mg/kgBB secara intraperitonial. Pengukuran kadar glukosa darah dilakukan pada hari ke -1, -3, -7, -11, dan -14. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi infus biji pepaya dan biji alpukat konsentrasi 0,4% v/v, 0,6% v/v , dan 0,8% v/v memberikan efek dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah  dan konsentrasi yang paling efektif dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah adalah konsentrasi 0,6% v/v.

Abstract

In general, anti-inflammatory drugs that currently available have great side effects. One of plant that suspected have anti-inflammatory effect is Kayu Jawa (Lannea coromandelic (Houtt). Merr). Objective of this research is to determine anti-inflammatory effect and effective concentration from extract ethanol Kayu Jawa leaves. First treatment was start with rats group divided into 5 groups that initial foot volume have been measured, then 0.3 mL of 1% lambda carrageenan solution injected to rat’s left foot as inducer, then foot volume measured again. Furthermore, rat groups were given oral induction,  1st group were given NaCMC as control group, 2nd group were given Diclofenac Sodium as drugs control group, then 3rd, 4th, and 5th as test group were given ethanol extract of Kayu Jawa leaves 75 mg/kgBW,  150 mg/kgBW, and 300 mg/kgBW. Foot volume measured again using plestimometer every 1 hour for 5 hours. The result showed that with 75 mg/kgBW, 150 mg/kgBW dan 300 mg/kgBW of ethanol extract Kayu Jawa leaves have ability to reduce rat’s foots volume that induce with carrageenan. Ethanol extract of Kayu Jawa leaves with dosage 300 mg/kgBW have bigger percentage of reducing rat’s foots volume (56.30%) than the other groups.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the concentration Infusa Seeds Avocado and papaya seeds effective leaves that have antioxidant activity to MDA levels in diabetic mellitus with rats was induced with alloxan. This research used 21 white rats were divided into 7 groups. All rats were induced by alloxan 110 mg/KgBB intraperitoneally. Group I as a normal control,group II was administered with Na.CMC as a negative control, group III avocado seed infusion of 10%, group IV papaya seed infusion of 10%, group V infusion combination of avocado seeds and papaya seeds 4%v/v, group IV infusion combination of avocado seeds and papaya seeds 6%v/v, group VII infusion combination of avocado seeds and papaya seeds 8%v/v. Administration were given orally for 14 days orally. Before treatment, all groups except the group I was induced with alloxan 110 mg/kgBB in intraperitonially. Measurement of MDA levels before and after administration of infusion. MDA levels as measured on a spectrophotometer 532 nm wavelength. MDA Assay performed with TBA method. The results showed that the combined infusion of avocado seeds and papaya seeds, concentrations of 4%v/v, 6%v/v, 8%v/v effective as an antioxidant.

Abstract

Sappan wood contains brazilin compounds that acts as antioxidants to inhibit the cholesterol synthesis, so it is efficacious hypolipidemic. It has been conducted the research on hypolipidemic effect assay of ethanol extract of sappan wood against male wistar rats. This research aims to determine the hypolipidemic effect from the ethanol extract of sappan wood based on a decrease in cholesterol content of rats. This research used 15 male rats were divided into 5 groups. Group I (control) was given suspension Na. CMC 1%, group II (comparator) was given simvastatin, the groups III, IV, and V were given ethanol extract of sappan wood at a dose 75 mg/kgbw, 150 mg/kgbw, and 300 mg/kgbw. All provisions were done orally once a day for 14 days. Cholesterol content measurements were done at the beginning of cholesterol before induction, after induction and after treatment. Before treatment rats were induced with propylthiouracil 0.01% and high cholesterol diet. The results showed that the ethanol extract of the sappan wood has a hypolipidemic effect and a dose 300 mg/kgbw was not significantly different (p > 0.05) with simvastatin.

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic inflammation. The research animed to determine the effect of n-butanol extract of Leucaena leucocephala leaves and the effective dose as antirheumatoid arthritis. It used 15 male rats divided into 5 groups: group I (negative control) was given Na-CMC; group II (positive control) was given a suspension of Methylprednisolone; group III, IV dan V were give the extraxt with doses of 83,3 mg/kgBW, 166,6 mg/kgBW and 333,2 mg/kgBW. The treatment was started by inducing Complete Freund`s Adjuvant intraplantary of 0,1 mL and let it remain until day 16. The therapy was conduction for 14 days orally and the foot volume measurements and observation of the arthritis index were performed on day 17 and 31st. The data analyzed using One Way Anova showed the differences among the groups (p 0,05) and continued with LSD test. The measurement of arthritis index using Kruskal-Wallis showed the differences between groups (p 0,05) proceeded to Mann-Whitney test. In conclusion, the n-butanol extract of Leucaena leucocephala  leaves had the effect as antirheumatoid

Abstract

The development of natural materials both from plants and from other materials as traditional medicines can be done by taking habits from the community in utilizing natural materials empirically. The wole woe plant is one of the plants that comes from the forest and grows wildly and is empirically used as a traditional medicine by the Weda community in Central Halmahera Regency. This study aims to see the chromatogram of wole woe stem extract and the group of chemical components that have potential as antibacterial using KLT-Bioautography method. The results of the chromatogram of the ethanol extract of wole woe stem, obtained 6 spots and there are 2 spots with rf values of 0.65 and 0.09 which have activity against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The results of the identification of chemical components using specific reagents, obtained chemical groups of anthraquinones, flavonoids, phenolics and alkaloids have potential as antibacterial, so that the ethanol extract of wole woe stem has potential as antibacterial.

Abstract

Repeated administration of traditional medicines can be potentially poisonous and damage vital organs such as the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys. Tests of safety need to be carried out. Bidara leaves are used traditionally used as antimicrobial, analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic. This study aims to determine safety of ethanol extract of bidara leaves on liver function. This research used wistar rats as test animals which were divided into 4 groups. Test animals were given ethanol extract of bidara leaves at a dose of 50 mg/kgBW, 500 mg/kgBW and 2000 mg/kgBW given orally for 14 days. SGPT rate checks are carried out before and after administering the extract. The results showed that giving ethanol extract of bidara leaves for 14 days did not have a significant effect on rat SGPT levels (p<0.05).

Abstract

Daun bidara (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) merupakan tanaman yang bermanfaat dalam pengobatan penyakit infeksi pencernaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol daun bidara (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) terhadap bakteri Salmonella typhi dengan metode difusi agar. Penelitian ini diawali dengan uji skrining menggunakan konsentrasi 0,1%, 0,5%, dan 1% kemudian dilanjutkan dengan uji Konsentrasi Hambat Minimum (KHM) dan uji Konsentrasi Bunuh Minimum (KBM) dengan konsentrasi 0,05 %, 1%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% dan 16% terhadap bakteri Salmonella thypi dan dilanjutkan uji aktivitas antibakteri dengan menggunakan metode difusi agar. Hasil uji skrining aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun bidara (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) memberikan aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Salmonella thypi pada konsentrasi 1%. Hasil uji KHM diperoleh pada konsentrasi 1% terhadap bakteri Salmonella thypi, sedangkan nilai KBM pada konsentrasi 0,05%. Hasil uji aktivitas antibakteri dengan metode difusi agar menggunakan konsentrasi 2,5%, 5%, dan 10% diperoleh diameter terbesar dalam menghambat bakteri pada konsentrasi 10%. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa semua konsentrasi ekstrak memiliki kemampuan yang sama dalam menghambat pertumbuhan mikroba (p0,05). Kesimpulan yang didapatkan adalah ekstrak etanol daun bidara (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam.) memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap bakteri Salmonella typhi.

Abstract

Qust al hindi is a plant from the Asteraceae family which has various therapeutic effects in ancient medicinal systems. This plant is used in traditional medicine in Arab countries as a stimulant, carminative, sedative and astringent. The part of Qust al hindi plant that is most often used for medicinal purposes is the dried root of the plant. This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolites contained in the root extract of the plant Qust al Hindi. The extraction process was carried out by the soxhletation method using 96% ethanol at 70ºC, and followed by phytochemical screening. The results of the phytochemical screening of the ethanol extract of the Qust al Hindi roots positively contained alkaloids, flavonoids and terpenoids.

Abstract

Pemberian obat tradisional secara berulang dapat berpotensi toksik dan merusak organ-organ vital seperti jantung, paru-paru, hati, dan ginjal. Daun bidara digunakan secara tradisional oleh masyarakat sebagai antimikroba, analgesik, antipiretik, antiinflamasi, antidiabetes. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat keamanan ekstrak etanol daun bidara terhadap ginjal tikus. Penelitian menggunakan tikus wistar yang terdiri atas 4 kelompok. Kelompok 1 diberi NaCMC sebagai kontrol, kelompok 2, 3 dan 4 diberikan masing-masing ekstrak etanol daun bidara dosis 50 mg/kgBB, 500 mg/kgBB dan 2000 mg/kgBB secara oral sekali sehari selama 14 hari. Pengukuran kadar kreatinin dilakukan sebelum dan setelah pemberian ekstrak kemudian dilakukan analisa statistik untuk mengetahui adanya perbedaan pada tiap kelompok uji. Setelah itu, dilakukan pembedahan untuk pemeriksaan histopatologi ginjal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak etanol daun bidara selama 14 hari tidak memberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap kadar kreatinin tikus (p<0,05). Hasil pemeriksaan histopatologi memperlihatkan adanya kerusakan seperti peradangan, degenerasi, kongesti dan nekrosis yang berbeda pada masing-masing kelompok dengan kerusakan terbesar pada dosis 2000 mg/kgBB. Pemberian berulang ekstrak etanol daun bidara secara oral tidak memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kadar kreatinin tikus tetapi secara histopatologi menunjukkan adanya beberapa kerusakan terutama pada dosis 2000 mg/kgBB.
