Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of social media use on body dissatisfaction among high school adolescents in Pangandaran Regency. Body dissatisfaction refers to negative feelings and thoughts about one’s physical appearance, often arising from discrepancies between actual and ideal body images. Social media, as a platform that emphasizes visual content, has been identified as a significant contributor to the formation of unrealistic beauty standards that may influence adolescents’ self-perception. This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a simple linear regression analysis technique. The population consisted of 1,507 students from five public high schools in Pangandaran Regency, and a sample of 418 students was selected using stratified random sampling. Research instruments included the Social Media Use Scale and the Body Dissatisfaction Scale, both of which had been tested for validity and reliability. The results of data analysis revealed a positive and significant correlation between social media use and body dissatisfaction (r = 0.212; p < 0.001). The coefficient of determination (R²) = 0.045 indicates that 4.5% of the variance in body dissatisfaction can be explained by social media use. These findings suggest that higher social media engagement is associated with greater body dissatisfaction among adolescents.

Abstract

The college period is an important transitional phase that requires students to adapt to complex academic, social, and emotional challenges. Difficulties in adaptation often reduce students' well-being and quality of life. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of classical guidance services based on growth mindset and distress tolerance training in improving students' quality of life. The method used is a quantitative approach with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. The research sample consisted of 30 students selected through purposive sampling. The data collection instrument used the Quality of Life Inventory (QOLI), and the analysis was performed using a paired sample t-test. The results of the study showed a significant increase in students' quality of life scores after participating in the training, both overall and in each dimension. These findings confirm that the integration of growth mindset and distress tolerance can strengthen students' cognitive and emotional aspects, thereby improving their psychological well-being and ability to adapt to academic pressure.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Person-Centered Expressive Art Therapy (PCEAT) counseling in improving the emotional well-being of students. Emotional well-being refers to individuals’ affective evaluation of their lives, consisting of positiveaffect and negative affect dimensions. The study employed a quantitative approach using a Single Subject Research (SSR) experimental design with an A-B-A pattern. The participants consisted of three students identified as having low levels of emotional well-being based on the Emotional Well-Being Scale (EWBS) developed by Şimşek (2011). The intervention was conducted through five counseling sessions based on expressive art activities to facilitate the expression and understanding of emotional experiences. Data were analyzed using visual analysis and the Percentage of Non-Overlapping Data (PND) technique to examine changes across baseline and intervention phases. The results indicated an increase in emotional well-being scores among all participants after the intervention. These findings suggest that Person-Centered Expressive Art Therapy is effective in enhancing students’ emotional well-being and can serve as an alternative counseling approach in Islamic boarding school settings.

Abstract

This study addressed the need to promote students’ positive psychological well-being amid increasing academic, emotional, and social challenges during adolescence. The study examined the effectiveness of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)-based group counseling intervention in enhancing flourishing among senior high school students. ACT was selected because it aims to enhance psychological flexibility, a key mechanism that enables individuals to pursue meaningful and value-consistent lives despite experiencing psychological distress, thereby supporting the development of flourishing. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. An initial screening was conducted with 149 students, from whom 16 students with low to moderate flourishing levels who met the inclusion criteria were purposively selected for the intervention. Flourishing was assessed using the Integrative Multidimensional Flourishing Scale (IMFS; Cronbach’s α = .93), alongside measures of psychological flexibility, depression, anxiety, and stress. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, paired-samples t-test, Cohen’s d effect size, and the Reliable Change Index (RCI). The findings demonstrated significant improvements in students’ flourishing and psychological flexibility, accompanied by reductions in psychological distress. The intervention produced a very large effect on flourishing (Cohen’s d = 2.68), with reliable positive changes observed across participants. These findings support ACT-based group counseling as an effective school-based promotive intervention for strengthening students’ psychological well-being and adaptive functioning.

Abstract

Final-year students face various challenges in the thesis preparation process, including problem identification, topic selection, data collection and analysis, seeking references, and difficulties with academic advisors. This study aims to examine the correlation between mindset and grit among final-year students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Tasikmalaya. Using a quantitative approach with a correlational design, this research investigates the relationship between mindset and grit. The sample consists of 206 out of 442 final-year students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Tasikmalaya, selected through random sampling. Data analysis employed the Pearson product-moment technique. Results indicate a positive correlation between grit and growth mindset (r = 0.514, p=0.001), while grit shows no correlation with a fixed mindset (r = -0.031, p = 0.657). These findings suggest that classical guidance services can enhance grit by fostering a growth mindset.

Abstract

Aggressive behavior in the school environment has a significant impact on the learning atmosphere, creating an unsafe environment that disrupts academic processes, affects students' mental health, and influences social relationships at school. This behavior is associated with low levels of emotional intelligence. This study aims to examine the influence of mindfulness and self-compassion on emotional intelligence among students at SMA Negeri 6 Tasikmalaya. The study used multiple correlation analysis, involving 300 students, with data collected through questionnaires measuring levels of emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and self-compassion. Based on the Structural Equation Model (SEM), the structural model for mindfulness and self-compassion on emotional intelligence demonstrated positive and significant results. A positive correlation was found between mindfulness and emotional intelligence (r=0.230; p=<0.001). Self-compassion showed a positive correlation with emotional intelligence (r=0.647; p=<0.001). Together, these two variables contributed 46.1% to emotional intelligence. These findings indicate that increased mindfulness and self-compassion play an important role in enhancing emotional intelligence.

Abstract

The transition from high school to college often introduces significant stress due to the need to adapt to a new academic culture and social environment. This stress can lead to decreased academic success, lower grades, and even dropout if not managed properly. Challenges such as high academic demands, fatigue, and procrastination hinder student progress. Academic procrastination, influenced by external factors, is linked to various adaptation levels. Beyond intellectual ability, factors such as interest, motivation, and self-concept play crucial roles in academic performance. Students with clear goals and self-management skills are more likely to succeed. Grit which combines resilience, courage, and determination, enhances the ability to overcome challenges and achieve long-term goals. Developing a growth mindset, which views failure as a part of the success process, can further improve grit and academic resilience. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy counseling has been shown to boost grit and academic resilience. This study emphasizes the importance of training in academic resilience through REBT to support student success.
