Abstract

Coffee table is quite important furniture because it is located in the center of the family room, so the coffee table must appear functionally and aesthetically attractive. Currently, minimalist and multifunctional furniture is growing rapidly with the extendable trend. This research aims to design a coffee table that can be opened lengthwise (extend). The Internet of Things (IoT) feature was added to make it easier to use this coffee table and to follow modern furniture trends. On the other hand, the industrial challenge is an environmentally friendly industry, such as minimizing waste by utilizing leftover materials that can still be used. This research also utilizes industrial wood waste. The coffee table designed in this research can be opened to the side so that it has an additional function as a place to store items. The type of research used is Quantitative Research using the design thinking method as a research method as well as a design method starting with empathy and ending with a test. Both the empathize and test stages use questionnaires as a measuring tool.  The result is that the function and aesthetic value of the extendable coffee table is quite good in terms of size, scale, proportion, texture, pattern and color because it uses appropriate finishing materials. The application of IoT in the design of an extendable coffee table shows that this product can follow technological trends in furniture design in the future and make it easier for users to operate furniture in storage functions without having to use a lot of manual effort.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of an ergonomically redesigned office chair, tailored to meet the anthropometric needs of employees. It addresses common issues associated with prolonged sitting, such as musculoskeletal discomfort and fatigue, which are prevalent in sedentary work environments. Utilizing anthropometric data from prior studies, the redesign incorporates modifications in key chair dimensions—such as seat height, seat depth, and backrest height—to enhance user comfort and reduce physical strain. The ROSA (Rapid Office Strain Assessment) tool was employed to assess posture and ergonomic risk for both the old and redesigned chairs. Findings indicate a significant improvement in ergonomic support and comfort with the new design, supported by a statistically significant reduction in ROSA scores, as confirmed through a paired sample t-test. Although the redesign effectively enhances comfort, further improvements are recommended, including adjustable lumbar support and backrest flexibility. This study underscores the importance of ergonomic adaptations in office furniture to support diverse body types and reduce occupational health risks.

Abstract

Workplace seating that does not match user anthropometry often leads to discomfort and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This study evaluates the office chairs used at the Politeknik Industri Furnitur dan Pengolahan Kayu Kendal by combining discomfort analysis and anthropometric mismatch assessment. Thirty-two employees (16 males, 16 females) participated, completing the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire and providing seated anthropometric measurements. The NBM results revealed that lower back discomfort was the most common complaint, particularly among female respondents, who also reported higher discomfort in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Mismatch analysis confirmed severe incompatibilities between existing chair dimensions and user anthropometry, with seat height (100% mismatch for both genders) and seat depth (94% for men, 88% for women) as the most problematic. Based on these findings, a redesigned chair was developed, lowering seat height by 30 mm and reducing seat depth by 66 mm, alongside adjustments to backrest and armrest dimensions. Comparison with Indonesian (SNI) and international ergonomic standards (ISO 9241-5, BIFMA G1, EN 1335-1) showed that the redesign falls within recommended ranges. The study demonstrates how anthropometry-based redesign can reduce mismatch and improve comfort, providing practical guidance for the local furniture industry.

Abstract

Abstract

The adaptation of new habits after the COVID-19 pandemic has created a new habit, namely work activities that can be done from home. PT Nutech Intgerasi has new rules as a form of adaptation to new habits, called Flexible Working Arrangements, which is work from home, work from office and onsite work systems. The current attendance system cannot cover these three work systems. Therefore, a new system is needed so that the head unit and the Human Capital & Organization team can continue to record and monitor each employee. The system is built using System development Life Cycle method and face recognition technology, then added Geolocation to record the location, the system was built with the JavaScript programming language. In the initial stage, the application has been implemented in the Business and Product Development department. The application has successfully recorded employee attendance and recorded the location when employees make attendance. For the face recognition feature of the five test data taken, four of them show data accuracy below the euclidean distance threshold value, where the euclidean distance threshold value is 0.40, even one of the test data managed to have an euclidean distance of 0.18 which means that the level of similarity is very high because the smaller the euclidean distance, the higher the level of similarity. In addition, by giving a lower limit value at the face detection stage of 0.90, only faces that are clearly visible and with good lighting are captured.

Abstract

Failures in the transfer carriage at the tippler station significantly disrupt material flow in palm oil mills, contributing to approximately 50% of total downtime during seven months of operation. This study aims to identify critical failure components of the transfer carriage system using the FMEA framework, analyze the root causes of these failures through the fishbone diagram and recommend maintenance improvement strategies. Data were collected through maintenance records, direct observation, and SOD questionnaires completed by three experienced personnel. Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) was applied to prioritize risks, while a fishbone diagram was used to determine root causes. The analysis showed that bearing damage or broken had the highest RPN (189) and represented the primary cause of operational interruptions. Improvement actions including automatic lubrication, stricter inspections, operator training, and higher-quality bearing selection, are projected to reduce failure frequency and unplanned downtime, enabling a shift from reactive to preventive maintenance while improving asset utilization and production stability This study offers a structured, data-driven framework for enhancing equipment reliability in palm oil mills, with practical relevance for maintenance planning and resource allocation. Keywords: Palm oil mill; transfer carriage; tippler station; FMEA; fishbone diagram; critical component
