Abstract

Background: Food is an important requi-rement supporting the human activities, including academic activities on campus. The composition and quality of nutrients, both macro, and micronutrients in a diet, plays an important role in ensuring the availability of energy sources for daily activities and long-term health. This study is a preliminary study to evaluate the nutritional value of food provided in the canteen of campus.Method: This research will use a cross-sectional design on food samples sold in the canteen of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta. The macronutrient composition analysis was calculated using a list of foodstuffscompositions. Results: Most of the packaged food menu do not meet the macronutrient composition in a manner of balanced nutrition. The dominant side dish is chicken, the fat composition is higher than the recommendation due to fried processing. The portion of rice is not standard on various packages, with an average of 1.6 servings of standard rice. The content of vegetables is minimal. A snack menu is predominantly carbohydrate foods with a moderate to high sugar content, with minimal ber content, and processed by frying. Conclusion: The nutritional quality of the food menu in the canteen has largely not yet fulfilled the recommended macronutrient composition.

Abstract

Background : Cardiovascular disease have overtaken communicable disease for being the main killer worldwide. Hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the risk factors. Elderly women statistically have a high prevalence of hypertension. Vitamin D is known to affect blood pressure and many studies showed the association between vitamin D and blood pressure with varying result. This study aim to evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation (alphacalcidol) for 12 weeks and change in blood pressure of elderly women patients in community health service clinic (KPKM) Medical Faculty Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta (FK UIN Jakarta), with pre and hypertension grade 1 patients in majority. Methods :  Analytical pre-post study design was conducted as a part of an RCT (Randomized Controlled Trial) studies with 106 participants of elderly women (45 intervention group, 61 control group). Results : Vitamin D deficiency in the intervention group significantly decreased post-supplementation from 22.2% to 8.9%. Subgroup analysis showed the decrease in blood pressure is greater in the subgroup middle-age elderly than young-age elderly category. Even though there was a significant change in the diastolic blood pressure in the subgroup of middle-age elderly post supplementation (p=0.03), Mann-Whitney statistical analysis showed that 12 weeks vitamin D supplementation (alphacalcidol) did not significantly effect the pre and post systolic nor diastolic blood pressure (p>0,05). Conclusion : The study did not found significant effect of 12 weeks Vitamin D (alphacalcidol) supplementation on blood pressure in elderly women patients.

Abstract

Background: Dental caries is a multifactorial disease influenced by complex genetic and environmental factors. At least 27 gene polymorphisms have been identified that are associated with caries risk. Polymorphisms of genes encoding taste receptors, such as the TAS1R2 gene, can cause individual differences in perception and sensitivity to sweet tastes. Research shows that the TAS1R2 gene polymorphism is associated with the consumption of sweet foods, which affects increasing caries risk. This study aims to determine the relationship between the TAS1R2 gene rs35874116 polymorphism and the caries index in Tangerang Selatan population. Methods: This study is observational with a cross-sectional method involving 266 research subjects (45 males and 221 females; 20-55 years). DNA was extracted from venous blood using the Genomic DNA Mini Kit from Geneaid and the genotyping process using the rhAmp-SNP assay kit, which was analyzed using RT-PCR. Dental caries was assessed by calculating D(decayed), M(missing), and F(filled) on permanent teeth. The hypothesis between the TAS1R2 genotype and the DMF-T index was tested using the Mann-Whitney test, while the comparison between the TAS1R2 genotype and caries risk was tested using Kruskal-Wallis' test. The results of the study were considered significant if p<0.05. Results: The minor allele frequency was 16.5%. The proportion of TT, TC, and CC genotypes were 71.%, 24.1%, and 4.5%, respectively. According to WHO classification, the DMF-T index of all research subjects was 5.62, a high category. The group of subjects with the CC genotype had a higher DMF-T index (7.08; very high) than the group of subjects with the CT genotype (6.05; high) and TT (5.38; high). CT and TT genotypes with high risk were significantly lower than those with low-moderate caries risk. Conclusion: there is no significant association between the TAS1R2 gene polymorphism rs35874116 with the caries index value in the people in South Tangerang.

Abstract

Background: Malnutrition, especially overnutrition, is a primary adult nutrition problem. Food intake and physical activity have been the primary factors that affect nutritional status. In college students, food consumption and physical activity tend not to be compatible with the recommendation. Objective: To know the association between nutrient intake and physical activity with the nutritional status of undergraduate students in the Faculty of Medicine of the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Methods: This study was an analytical cross-sectional at the Faculty of Medicine, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, from August to September 2019. The sample of this study was undergraduate medical students at the Faculty of Medicine UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, with as many as 113 students meeting qualified criteria. The sample was chosen with a stratified sampling method. Data was taken using IPAQ (International Physical Activity Questionnaire) for physical activity, food records, and height and body weight measurements. Data was analysed using comparative analysis Results: Our analysis demonstrated an association between nutritional status and adequacy of calorie intake (p = 0.001), as well as macronutrient intake (p = 0.001). There was no association between nutritional status and physical activity (p = 0.737). Conclusion: There was an association between nutrient intake and the nutritional status of undergraduate medical students in the Faculty of Medicine UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. On the contrary, there was no association between physical activity and the nutritional status of undergraduate medical students in the Faculty of Medicine UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.

Abstract

Background: Cataracts, characterized by lens cloudiness, impair vision. Predicting visual outcomes after phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is crucial, and preoperative retinometry may be a valuable predictive tool. This study aimed to analyze this relationship. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted using secondary data from 31 patients who underwent phacoemulsification with IOL at Jakarta Hospital (2020-2022). Patient characteristics (age, sex) were described. The correlation between preoperative retinometry measurements and postoperative visual acuity was analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation test. Results: The cohort comprised 22 males and 9 females. Most male patients were aged 46–64, while most female patients were >65 years old. A statistically significant correlation was found between preoperative retinometry and postoperative visual acuity (p=0.005). The correlation strength was moderate (r=0.494), indicating that higher preoperative retinometry values predicted better postoperative visual acuity. Conclusion: Preoperative retinometry is a significant predictor of visual acuity following cataract surgery. This finding supports its clinical use for prognosticating surgical outcomes, demonstrating a direct, positive relationship between preoperative measurement and postoperative result.
