Abstract

Ciletuh National Geopark region which administratively located in the District of Ciemas and Ciracap, Sukabumi, West Java province has a unique geodiversity and showed the oldest rocks in West Java. Because the geological characteristic that is not found in other places makes Ciletuh as National Geopark in Indonesia. In carrying out the Geopark concept, supporting activities that related with sustainable economic on that area, called Geotourism. The objective of this paper is to determine the Geotourism potential activities to do in the Ciletuh National Geopark, particularly reviewing Ciletuh Amphitheatre. The method used in this study is divided into three processes: starting from literature research areas and collection of field data as one step in the inventory of geological sites (geosites), followed by analysis and classification of data in accordance with the goal of this research. Geotrek with the theme of "The Magical of Ciletuh Amphiteather" will guide us to surround and learn the beauty of the the Ciletuh Amphitheater ciletuh focusing on geosites which contained on amphitheater form, namely: 8 (eight) waterfalls  and two (2) Ciletuh scenery spots.

Abstract

The Eocene Ciletuh Formation, exposed within the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark, provides a key record of syn-tectonic sedimentation in West Java. While its general submarine fan setting is known, detailed facies and petrographic studies in specific localities are limited. This study aims to characterize the sedimentology of the Ciletuh Formation sandstone in the Mandrajaya area through an integrated analysis of lithofacies, petrography, and their spatial distribution to reconstruct its depositional environment. The methodology involved geological mapping to document outcrop characteristics and collect samples, followed by petrographic analysis of sandstones and conglomerates. Four primary lithofacies were identified: (a) matrix-supported polymictic conglomerate, (b) graded sandstone, (c) parallel-laminated sandstone, and (d) massive sandstone. Petrographic analysis reveals that the sandstones are texturally immature Lithic Arenites, and the conglomerates contain polymictic clasts of gabbro and recycled sandstone within a similar lithic arenite matrix. The spatial distribution of these facies delineates a submarine fan architecture, characterized by channel-fill deposits (conglomerates and massive sandstones) flanked by associated levee and overbank deposits (graded and laminated sandstones). The lithofacies association and petrographic composition confirm deposition within a dynamic submarine fan system sourced from a "Recycled Orogenic" belt, specifically the uplifted Ciletuh mé‎lange complex, within a tectonically active Paleogene fore-arc basin. Keywords: Submarine Fan, Lithic Arenite, Conglomerate, Fore-arc Basin, Sedimentation, Turbidite, Eocene.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest nickel producing countries in the world. One of the nickel producing areas in Indonesia is in the Loji Beach area. This research area is located on Obi Island, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. Geologically, the research area is composed of ultramafic rocks. This research aims to determine the characteristics of nickel laterite and its relationship with geological conditions in the research area using petrographic methods of rock samples and XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) geochemistry of drilling samples. Geochemical data in the form of Ni content from drill data was interpolated using the IDW method using ArcGIS software. Based on research results, Ni-laterite is abundant in the morphology of gentle hills with a slope of 0-7%. The base rock bearing Ni-laterite is thought to be serpentinite from the serpentinization of harzburgite and dunite. Based on petrographic analysis, the bedrock is composed of >85% serpentine, the rest is relict minerals olivine and orthopyroxene, as well as other minerals such as talc, oxide minerals and opaque. The results of geochemical analysis show that in the limonite zone there is an abundance of Fe elements, while in the saprolite zone the Ni element is enriched with levels of 1.5% -2.8%.
