Abstract

This is descriptive qualitative research design. The respondent of the research were taken by using purposive sampling. The respondent were three English teachers in SMAN 1 Banyuwangi, SMAN 1 Giri and SMAN 1 Glagah. The data were taken by using documentation, interview and questionnaire. The researcher analyzed the data of questionnaire by using Likert scale. The result of the data analysis was determined based on the SAMR model. Based on the data analyzed by using Likert scale, the English teachers in Banyuwangi high schools often implemented SAMR in English language teaching and the index percentage was 60%. The percentage of substitution level was 67%, as a result the respondents often used technology in substitution level. The percentage of augmentation was 62%, so the English teacher in Banyuwangi high schools often implemented technology in augmentation level. In Modification level, the percentage was 62%, it means the English teachers in Banyuwangi senior high schools often used technology in modification level. The percentage of the redefinition was 50%, as a result, the English teachers of Banyuwangi high schools seldom implemented technology in redefinition level. The English teachers used technology to design the material, so students can understand the material easily. The technology mostly used was LCD and laptop as the tools, also power point and video as the media. the problem that was faced by the respondents was the weakness of WIFI signal. The teachers often used technology in substitution level, augmentation level, and modification level. Yet, the teachers seldom used technology in redefinition level. So, the English teachers are suggested to redesign the material creatively and attractively by using varied application in order to make students more creative and used internet for education by using varied application.

Abstract

Questioning strategies are the important method for teachers to ask the students by giving the question. The goal of this research was to identify out the type and the level of questioning strategies that used by the English techers in English classroom interaction at SMAN 2 Taruna Bhayangkara in the academic year 2019/2020. This research used descriptive qualitative research design. There were 6 English teachers as the respondents. It determined by using purposive sampling. To collect the data, it taken by using questionnaire and interview. Likert scale was the tool to analyze the data from quistionnaire. To determine the data analysis, it related to eight indicators namely wait time, probing question, balance, participation, prhasing, sequencing, adaptation, and student question. From the data analysis, it offered that questioning strategies always use by the teachers in English classroom interaction. The percentage of wait time was 80.56%, probing question 79.17%, balance 61%, participation 76.39%, phrasing 87.5%, sequencing 80.56%, adaptation 68.06%, student question 73.61%. In addition, the most performed type of questioning strategies was phrasing (87.5%) and based on the Bloom’s Taxonomy, teachers used of model questions in understanding level which has indicated in lower level question. Thus, the English teachers should develop questions in higher level to stimulate students higher order thinking skill.

Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the foremost important components in learning language. Word mapping strategy is depiciting of changing relationship between and among words to encourage students studying English. The researcher used experimental method. The research was conducted at SMK PGRI Banyuputih from 10stAugust until 15thAugust 2018, in the academic year 2018/2019. The population of the research was tenth grade students at SMK PGRI Banyuputih. The samples were class X AK as the experimental class and class X TKJ as the control class. Both of them were consisted of 15 students. This research used quantitative approach with experiment design. The technique of collecting data used was a test. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on the result of the data analysis of T-test formula, it can be known the result of t-test was higher than the t table. That was 2,89 > 2,048. it show that there is an effect of word mapping strategy on the vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students at SMK PGRI Banyuputih in academic year 2018/2019.

Abstract

Speaking is an important things in interaction, and speaking English is very important to learn to communication when people from the different nations meet. This research aimed to find the type and the dominant barriers in speaking English learning at Senior High School in Songgon Sub-district. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The respondent were 160 from three school in Songgon Sub-district, they are 69 respondent from MA Alfatah, 17 respondent from SMA 4 Muhammadiyah, and 74 respondent from SMK Nurut Taqwa which determined by using cluster sampling. The data were taken by using online system of questionnaire and interview. The data from questionnaire was analyzed by using Likert scale. The data analysis was determined based on theory linguistics barrier and non-linguistic barriers. Analysis questionnaire and interview data showed that students at Senior high school In Songgon sub-district have high Barriers in speaking English learning. The type of barriers had by students showed the percentage score of each indicator are 66% in speaking barrier, 57% in lack of vocabulary, 65% poor in grammar, 64% poor in pronunciation, 71% in lack of motivation, 62% in fear of mistake, 61% in anxiety, 65% in lack of confidence, and 57% in shyness. The most dominant barriers had by students are poor in grammar from linguistic factor and lack of motivation from non-linguistic factor.

Abstract

English is important language to communicate with the foreign guests who stay at the homestay. This research aimed to describe how the Homestay hosts interest in learning English at Tamansari tourism village. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The respondents were 22 homestay hosts in Tamansari tourism village which determined by using purposive sampling. The data were taken by using questionnaire and interview. The data from questionnaire was analyzed by using Likert scale. The data analysis was determined based on theory of interest with four indicators. They are attention, participation, willingness, and feeling need. Analysis questionnaire and interview data showed that homestay hosts in Tamansari tourism village have high interest in learning English and the index percentage was 74%. It consists of attention level 78%, participation level 64%, willingness level 71%, and feeling need level 74%. Therefore the homestay hosts in Tamansari tourism village need English as communication medium with the foreign tourists. On the other case, there were some problems faced by the homestay hosts that are pronunciation, lack of time, lack of partner to learn, fluctuation of foreign tourists visit, and low awareness to learn made them practice English less maximal.
