Abstract

Figurative language is language used to express something beyond the literal meaning. There are thirteen types of figurative language used in this research, namely simile, methapor, personification, hyperbole, euphemism, symbolism, repetition, irony, sarcasm, paradox, antithesis, idioms and imagery. This research focuses in analysing the types of figurative language found on the song lyrics “You are My Sunshine”. The objective of the research is to know what the types of figurative language used on the Song Lyrics “You are My Sunshine” by Anne Murray and how the types of figurative language used on the Song Lyrics “You are My Sunshine” by Anne Murray. In this research, researchers used a descriptive qualitative method in analyzing data in the song lyrics. In collecting data, the research identified and classified the types of figurative language in the song lyrics. In analysis data, the research reads song lyrics, determines types of figurative language in song lyrics, sorting song lyrics to put into types of figurative language, conclusion. The results of the research found nine types of figurative language with a total of each types of figurative language, namely, methapor (3), hyperbloe (1), symbolism (1), repetition (1), idiom (2), imagery (1). From thirteen types of figurative language used in the song lyrics, nine types of figurative language are used in the song lyrics and four types of figurative language are not used in the song lyrics. Types of figurative language that is not in the song lyrics, because the sentence song lyrics is ordinary language sentence.

Abstract

This research is a study of students’ workbook in 41 elementary School in Banyuwangi City. The study was limited in used topic in each chapter, from the 1st grade to the 6th grade of elementary school. The decree of ministry of education and culture number 79, 2014 used as parameter of this study. The result indicated that from 6 different levels of workbook that is used by the students from 41 elementary schools, none of them took local uniqueness as their topic in workbooks. It also found that from 41 English teachers in 41 schools, researcher chose 20 teachers as data sampling to be observed. Found that most teachers never develop the topic in the workbooks, they used workbooks as what they are. Multicultural in Banyuwangi do not make teachers aware to promote it to their students.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan self efficacy dan memaksimalkan potensi yang dimiliki mahasiswa berkebutuhan khusus sehingga dapat berpartisipasi secara penuh serta produktif dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat serta untuk mengembangkan self efficacy dalam motivasi belajar mahasiswa berkebutuhan khusus. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian lapangan (field reseach) dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Sedangkan menurut sifat masalahnya penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian kualitatif deskriptif data yang dikumpulkan bukan angka-angka tetapi berupa kata-kata atau gambaran. Penelitian ini dilakukan langsung di lapangan yaitu di Universitas PGRI Banyuwangi untuk mendapatkan data yang diperlukan terkait Meningkatkan Self Efficacy Mahasiswa Berkebutuhan Khusus Melalui Pendekatan Psikoanalisis Dan Cooperative Positive Learning. Kesimpulan pada hasil penelitian ini adalah implementasi pendekatan Psikonalisa dengan Model CPL sangat penting dalam meningkatkan prestasi belajar mahasiswa berkebutuhan khusus. Penggunaan metode psikoanalisa dalam proses belajar memberikan dampak positif bagi mahasiswa. Terutama untuk meningkatkan self efficacy. Adapun dampak positif di antaranya mahasiswa lebih mampu menghadapi permasalahan, Lebih yakin terhadap kemampuan dalam diri, dan Memiliki Kemampuan untuk Bangkit dari Kegagalan.

Abstract

This research was a descriptive qualitative research. Aim at describers types and motives of swearing uttered by Dave and Halley in Crawl Movie by Alexander Aja. This research focused in analyzing words which contain swearing that are used by Haley Keller and Dave in Crawl Movie by Alexander Aja. The scope of this research is Sociolinguistics field that has function to know the relationship between language and society. This research only focuses in analyzing the types of swearing and the motive of using swearing.. The researcher used documentation method to collect the data. In this research, the researcher applied three steps of data analysis made by Miles and Huberman theory, those three steos are data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/verification. The researcher found that there are 3 types of swearing that is used in Crawl Movie. Those are expletive, abusive, and auxiliary. The expletive is the most swearing uttered by the characters in Crawl Movie. They appeared 22 times. It is followed by the abusive which are uttered 5 times and auxiliary are uttered 5 times. Therefore, there are 3 kinds of swearing motives. They are psychological, social and linguistic motives. Psychological is the most motive used in the movie. Swearing with psychological motive occurred 24 times. Meanwhile, linguistic motive occurred 5 times. Then, social motive only occurred 3 times.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive qualitative which analyze the illocutionary act in the main character in Spider-Man: Far From Home Movie. This research aimed to identify the types and functions of illocutionary act in the main character in Spider-Man: Far From Home Movie. The researcher used Miles and Hubberman’s theory to analyze the data. It consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The research found that there are 4 types of illocutionary act that used by the main character in Spider-Man: Far From Home Movie based on Searle theory: those are representatives, expressives, directives, and commisives. Directive is the most illocutionary act used in this Movie. They appeared 36 times. It is followed by expressives which are uttered 31 times. Then, representatives are uttered 8 times and commisives are uttered 3 times. Therefore, There are 4 types of illocutionary function used in this movie based on Searle theory: competitive, convivial, collaborative, and conflictive. Competitive is the most illocutionary function used in this movie. They appeared 55 time. It is followed by convivial which are uttered 16 times. Then, collaborative uttered 4 times. The forth is conflictive that uttered one times.

Abstract

Communication is the most important part of human life. It does not only occur on social media, but also in drama or movies. However, communication which is only known by the speaker, will lead misunderstanding between the speaker and listener. Pragmatics is an appropriate analysis for interpreting a language. One of the important aspect in pragmatics is speech act. There are three levels of speech acts that can be found in utterances, namely locutionary, illlocutionary, and perlocutionary act. This research is a descriptive study of the illocutionary and perlocutionary acts in Onward movie. The researcher used descriptive-qualitative design and the documentation method to collect data. The researcher used several steps to collect data. The first step, the researcher searched and downloaded Onward movie and its script through the internet. Second, the researcher watched the movie and paid attention to the character’s utterances while reading the script simultaneously. Third, the researcher collected data from dialogues relevant to the research problems, namely the illocutionary and the perlocutionary act. Finally, the researcher grouped the speaker’s utterances with each type of illocutionary act and analyzed the perlocutionary act based on Austin’s theory. The results show that in Onward movie there are 31 types of illocutionary acts with 4 main types and 27 supporting types from the speaker, and 31 perlocutionary acts, namely 24 perlocutionary objects and 7 perlocutionary sequels made by the main character as the listener.

Abstract

Writing is a form of communication between the writer who express the idea and the reader who comprehends what they read. However writing is a very difficult and complex process. It requires some important skills to make the sentence which clear and acceptable. Nowadays, the use of social media for learning is a new phenomenon. One of the social media is Instagram. Instagram is a social network based on sharing pictures and videos which can be posted to other social media sites. Instagram has also many features that can be useful for students. This research aimed to analysis students’ perception toward Instagram using in learning writing. The research design was descriptive qualitative. The respondents were 20 students in SMK PGRI 2 Giri Banyuwangi which determined by using purposive sampling. The data were taken by using questionnaire and interview. The data from questionnaire analyzed Likert Scale, while the data from interview by interviewed. The respondents for questionnaire were 20 respondents, while interview were 3 respondents. The data analysis was determined based on theory of five indicators. The percentage results of indicator are sharing information (66%), social interaction (66%), communicative utility (68%), self-expression (69%), and entertainment (66%). Analysis of interview by 3 respondents by English teacher, they agree that Instagram become media for support learning writing. Based on the result above, it was concluded that students and also teacher agree using Instagram for learning writing.

Abstract

There are several skills to master English as international language must be taught in teaching learning process that is listening, speaking, reading and writing. This research explores the experimental research of effectiveness in using talking chips strategy for students’ speaking ability of Eighth B grade at MTs NU Gombengsari in the 2017/2018 academic year. The primary data were taken from pre test and the secondary data were taken from post test. The numbers of respondents are 34 students in the population that uses purposive sampling. The purpose of this research was intended to know the effectiveness of talking chips strategy for students’ speaking ability and to find out the significant different of students speaking ability in vocabulary, pronounciation and independence. In this research, the researcher used the pre test and post test as data collecting method and t-test formula as data analysis. There are 1,65% of the effectiveness of talking chips startegy that had been applied. The degree of value of this research is stated in 32. The result of talking chips strategy is able to increase the achievement of speaking ability. Learning description of speaking ability using talking chips strategy is easier for the students to explore their ideas.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the description of the implementation of Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) in teaching writing descriptive text to the eighth grade students of SMP Sunan Giri 2 Kalipuro in the 2019/ 2020 academic year. In teaching and learning English, there are many strategies used by the teacher. In teaching writing, one of the strategy can be used is Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM). The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. The research was conducted at SMP Sunan Giri 2 Kalipuro, and the subject of the research are the English teacher and 30 students of eight grade of SMP Sunan Giri 2 Kalipuro. The respondents of the research were taken by using purposive sampling. The researcher took the data by using documentation, interview, questionnaire and test. The researcher analyzed the data of questionnaire by using Likert scale and to analyze the students’ writing test by scoring rubric. The result of the intervew to the English teacher showed that the use of media in teaching and learning process could the students more interested to study English in the class, one of the method was the implemented is Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM). The students’ responses indicate that the implementation of Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) were very helpful to them in writing desriptive text. More that 50% of the students agree that the method had many benefits in teaching and learning process. The result of the test also showed a good achievement of the students in writing descriptive text. They get 79,4 in the average and 87% in good interpretation percentage. Therefore, it is recomended that PWIM can be used more often by English teacher in teaching English especially in teaching writing descriptive text.

Abstract

The thesis is about the effect of using literary film to improve speaking ability of the tenth grade student at MA Al Imarah Wongsorejo in the 2019/2020 academic year. The objective of this research is to know whether or not there is the effect of using literary film to improve speaking ability of the tenth grade student at MA Al Imarah Wongsorejo in the 2019/2020 academic year.The method used in this research is experimental quantitative method. The respondents of this research are 39 students of the tenth grade students. This research used purposive method to get the respondents of the research and the interview test to collect the data. The result of T- test is 13,420 and the T table value is 2,021 in the significant level 5% and degree of freedom was 37. It shows that the T-test value is higher than the value of T table. This data analysis is also strengthened by the average scores of students. The average score of the respondents’ posttest result was 73,974 which were higher than 39 in the experimental group that had gotten pretest. Based on the result of the data analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that, there is significant effect of literary film to improve speaking ability of Tenth Grade Students of MA Al Imarah Wongsorejo in 2019/2020 Academic year.
