Abstract

The title of this research is “The Effect of Cartoon Pictures in Colored Envelopes on the Grammar Mastery of the 7th Graders at SMPN 1 Glagah in the Academic Year 2023-2024”. It is written to be submitted to the English Educational Department of PGRI University of Banyuwangi. The respondents of the research are seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Glagah academic year 2023/2024. In this research, the researcher took one class as the sample. The subject research is class VIIC which consists of 31 students. The objective of this research is To determine whether or not there is any effect of Cartoon Pictures in Colored Envelopes on the Grammar Mastery of the 7th year graders at SMPN 1 GLAGAH. The researcher conducted this research for three times of meeting, first day for pre-test, second day for treatment and last day for post-test. The method used in this research is quantitative with a one group pretest-posttest research design. The researcher used test as the instrument. After the data was obtained, the researcher calculated the data using the Wilcoxon test. Based on the calculation results, the pretest average was 34.86 and the posttest average was 77.91. To determine the truth of the hypothesis, the result of Wilcoxon test is 0.000, which is a lower value when viewed from the significance level of 0.05 used (0.000 < 0.05). It can be concluded that the hypothesis "Use cartoon pictures in colored envelopes as a learning media is effective on students' grammar mastery of the 7th graders at SMPN 1 Glagah in the academic year 2023-2024 is accepted”

Abstract

Based on the preliminary survey at SMPN 1 Glagah at Banyuwangi, it was known that the seventh grade students faced grammar mastery difficulties mainly since the teacher uses conventional way of teaching. This experimental research with one-group pretest-posttest design aims to investigate the effect of using cartoon pictures in colored envelopes on the grammar mastery of those students by utilizing a grammar test as an instrument. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ grammar mastery after being taught using this media. Therefore, the researcher recommends English teachers to implement this media to support grammar learning, especially for teaching the simple present tense.

Abstract

This research is a study of students’ workbook in 41 elementary School in Banyuwangi City. The study was limited in used topic in each chapter, from the 1st grade to the 6th grade of elementary school. The decree of ministry of education and culture number 79, 2014 used as parameter of this study. The result indicated that from 6 different levels of workbook that is used by the students from 41 elementary schools, none of them took local uniqueness as their topic in workbooks. It also found that from 41 English teachers in 41 schools, researcher chose 20 teachers as data sampling to be observed. Found that most teachers never develop the topic in the workbooks, they used workbooks as what they are. Multicultural in Banyuwangi do not make teachers aware to promote it to their students.

Abstract

Vocabulary is a crucial component in language proficiency that supports students' communication skills. This study was conducted to know the effect of a maze game on the Vocabulary Mastery of Ninth Grade Student at SMPN 1 Tegalsari in the Academic Year 2025/2026. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The participants of this study consisted of 33 of ninth C grade students. Data was collected using a vocabulary test consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions items that focused on synonym and antonym in three categories: verbs, nouns, and adjectives. With SPSS version 27, the statistical analysis was carried out. The results showed a significant increase in vocabulary scores, where the mean score of the pre-test was 51 and increased to 79 in the post-test. The paired sample t-test showed a t-value of 23.767, higher than the t-table value of 2.036 with a significance level below 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference. This study shows that the use of maze game can help students increase their vocabulary mastery. In this study, focusing on word recognition in the categories of verbs, nouns, and adjectives was proven to facilitate students' vocabulary mastery. Therefore, Maze Game has effect on students' vocabulary mastery, especially their understanding in adjectives.
