Abstract

Children under the age of five (under-fives) are particularly vulnerable to nutritional issues, especially in coastal areas where social, cultural, economic, educational, and hygiene factors play significant roles. The nutritional status of under-fives is influenced by several factors, including exclusive breastfeeding, maternal education and knowledge, family income, and the child’s history of infections. Poor nutrition negatively impacts growth, leading to stunted height and weight, impaired brain development, reduced intelligence, and increased susceptibility to infections. This study employed a descriptive analytic method with purposive sampling. The analysis used univariate analysis to examine the frequency distribution of nutritional status and the characteristics of the children. The results showed that 85.8% of the children had good nutritional status, 11% were undernourished, and 3.2% were severely malnourished. In conclusion, the majority of children in the coastal areas of Bengkulu City were found to have good nutritional status.

Abstract

Teknik massage effleurage dan aromaterapi jeruk kalamansi (Citrofortunella microcarpa) mampu mengurangi nyeri persalinan kala I.

Abstract

Tuna fish (Thunnus albacares.) is one of the capture fisheries commodities with significant potential to be developed as a nutritious food ingredient to support food diversification. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of tuna fish oil and tuna fish flour derived from capture fisheries in Bengkulu Province as ingredients for nutritious food formulations through yield and chemical characteristic analyses. The study was conducted by processing tuna into fish oil using an oven-heating method at 100°C for 6 hours, while the residual solid from the oil extraction process was further processed into fish flour using a food dehydrator at 90°C for 8 hours. The analyzed parameters included the yield of fish oil and fish flour, moisture content, free fatty acids (FFA), protein content, fat content, and carbohydrate content. The results showed that the yield of tuna fish oil was 10.46%, while the yield of tuna fish flour reached 26.75%. Tuna fish oil had a moisture content of 0.47% and an FFA value of 0.86%, both of which met fish oil quality standards. Meanwhile, tuna fish flour contained 9.14% moisture, 53.45% protein, 6.92% fat, and 22.63% carbohydrates. These findings indicate that tuna fish oil and fish flour have strong potential as raw materials for functional food and food fortification due to their high protein content and omega-3 fatty acids, which provide important health benefits. The combined utilization of tuna fish oil and fish flour has the potential to produce food products with more complete nutritional value and higher added value in supporting local resource-based food diversification.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women remains a health issue that can have adverse effects on both the mother and the fetus. One preventive measure against anemia is the proper consumption of iron tablets; however, the success of this effort is influenced by the level of knowledge pregnant women have regarding the proper consumption of iron tablets. The research question of this study is whether there is a relationship between knowledge regarding the proper consumption of iron tablets and the incidence of anemia among pregnant women in the service area of the Telaga Dewa Community Health Center, Bengkulu City. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge regarding the proper consumption of iron tablets and the incidence of anemia in pregnant women. This study employed a quantitative method with a descriptive-analytical design using a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 378 pregnant women, with a sample of 45 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and hemoglobin level tests, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test. The results showed that of the 18 respondents with good knowledge, 16 (88.9%) were not anemic and 2 (11.1%) were anemic. Of the 11 respondents with adequate knowledge, 4 respondents (36.4%) were not anemic and 7 respondents (63.6%) were anemic. Of the 16 respondents with poor knowledge, 4 respondents (25.0%) were not anemic and 12 respondents (75.0%) were anemic. Overall, 24 respondents (46.7%) were not anemic, and 21 respondents (53.3%) were anemic. The chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a significant association between knowledge of how to take iron tablets and the incidence of anemia in pregnant women.

Abstract

The issue of malnutrition among toddlers in Bengkulu Province, particularly in Rindu Hati Village, Central Bengkulu Regency, has become a major concern with a prevalence of 2.4%. This condition requires innovative solutions utilizing local resources to improve the nutritional status of toddlers. This study aims to train the PKK group in Rindu Hati Village to utilize catfish, an abundant local resource, by processing it into jelly candies enriched with fish oil. The product is designed to enhance toddlers' weight with an appealing taste, minimizing the fishy odor, and providing additional economic value. The method employed is Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), engaging the community in the production process. The expected outcomes include increasing the PKK members' understanding of the benefits of fish oil and equipping them with the skills to produce jelly candies as a solution for preventing malnutrition. This training is anticipated to not only improve the nutritional status of toddlers but also empower the local community economically through innovations in catfish-based food products.
