Abstract

Stunting remains a public health problem in Indonesia, including in Kudus Regency, which recorded a prevalence of 4.56 % in 2024. This condition is influenced by various factors, both maternal and family environment. This study aims to analyze factors related to the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Kudus Regency, including a history of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women, a history of anemia, family socio-economic conditions, and feeding patterns. The study design used a case-control with a retrospective approach. The sample consisted of 200 respondents, consisting of 100 stunted toddlers (cases) and 100 non-stunted toddlers (controls) selected using consecutive sampling method in 19 community health centers in Kudus Regency. Data were collected through interviews with a structured questionnaire from the results of previous research on the history of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), Anemia, family socio-economics and feeding patterns and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Bivariate analysis showed that history of CED (OR = 5.05 ; p < 0.001), history of anemia (OR = 2.12; p = 0.028), family socioeconomic status (OR = 0.14; p = 0.001), and feeding patterns (OR = 0.18; p < 0.001) were significantly associated with the incidence of stunting. The incidence of stunting in toddlers in Kudus Regency is influenced by maternal factors (CED and anemia), family socioeconomic factors, and feeding patterns, with feeding patterns being the dominant factor. Stunting prevention efforts need to focus on improving maternal nutrition, preventing anemia, empowering families economically, and educating toddlers on feeding practices.

Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia, including in non-metropolitan areas such as Cilacap Regency. This study aims to describe the incidence of HIV in Cilacap Regency based on surveillance data from 2020–2024. This study used a descriptive observational design with a secondary data analysis approach. Data were sourced from the recapitulation of HIV reports from the Cilacap Regency Health Office for 2020–2024, with the study population comprising all HIV cases recorded during that period. Data analysis was conducted using univariate methods and presented in the form of frequency distributions and descriptive narratives. The results show that HIV cases are consistently detected annually, with a trend of increasing cases in recent years. The majority of cases occur in men. Most people with HIV/AIDS have received antiretroviral therapy (ARVs), although there are still cases of HIV-related deaths and individuals who have not or are not recorded as receiving ARVs. Based on population groups, HIV cases were most frequently found among men who have sex with men (MSM), followed by the general population and partners of people living with HIV/AIDS. These findings indicate that the HIV epidemic in Cilacap Regency is concentrated in key groups, but has spread to the general population. The conclusion of this study confirms that the HIV incidence in Cilacap Regency is ongoing and requires strengthening prevention efforts, early detection, and treatment continuity based on local data and a comprehensive approach.

Abstract

Introduction: Scabies is a contagious skin condition and a persistent public health issue in many tropical regions, including Indonesia. Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors play a central role in preventing transmission, particularly in communities with limited sanitation. Objectives: This study aimed to identify community patterns of knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors associated with scabies occurrence in the Wolofeo region. Methods: This descriptive quantitative study included 70 respondents selected through purposive sampling from individuals who had previously received outpatient treatment for scabies at the Wolofeo Health Center. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire that had undergone content validation and reliability testing. Validity was supported by a CVI of 0.87, and reliability was confirmed through a pilot test yielding a Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.82. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequency and percentage distributions. Results: Most respondents demonstrated good knowledge of hygiene and scabies prevention. Attitudes toward Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors were overwhelmingly positive, with nearly all participants expressing favorable views. All respondents reported good hygiene practices, indicating strong behavioral adoption of preventive measures. Demographic characteristics, particularly adulthood and senior high school education levels, were associated with higher readiness to implement preventive behaviors. Conclusions: The community showed strong preparedness for scabies prevention through good knowledge, positive attitudes, and consistent hygiene practices. However, a small subset exhibited limited understanding and less favorable attitudes, highlighting the need for sustained health education. Future research should incorporate observational methods to validate self-reported practices and better inform targeted prevention strategies.

Abstract

The phenomenon of adolescents involved in the prostitution industry was widespread globally, including in Indonesia. This study focused on the changing patterns of prostitution, motivations, perceptions, and risks faced by adolescent sex workers. The research used a mixed-method approach, employing both quantitative and qualitative designs. Data were collected through surveys involving adolescent sex workers and general adolescents, as well as in-depth interviews with adolescent sex workers. The quantitative study included 360 respondents, comprising 180 general adolescents and 180 adolescent sex workers, while the qualitative study involved 30 adolescent sex workers as informants. The research was conducted in Bali, South Kalimantan, West Java, North Sulawesi, North Sumatra, and Central Java provinces. The findings revealed a shift in prostitution patterns among adolescents from conventional (street-based) prostitution to online prostitution via digital platforms. Adolescents had greater opportunities to become online sex workers due to the diversity of social media platforms and service types available. Economic factors accounted for 81.7% of adolescents' reasons for becoming sex workers. There was a disparity in perceptions between general adolescents and the actual challenges faced by adolescent sex workers. Among adolescent sex workers, 80% had low reproductive health knowledge, 23% had experienced sexually transmitted infections (STIs), 16% had faced unwanted pregnancies, and 7% had undergone abortions. It was concluded that there were significant changes in the patterns, motivations, perceptions, and risks associated with adolescent sex work.
