Abstract

Kata Kunci: Daun Kemangi (Ocimum sanctum L.), Gel Antiseptik Tangan, Potensi Daya Hambat, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus epidermidis The use of hand antiseptic gel is an effort to avoid skin contamination from pathogenic bacteria. Kemangi leaves are known contain flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and linalool which are effective as antibacterial. This study aims to determine the stability and antibacterial inhibition of the antiseptic gel of the ethanolic extract of Kemangi leaves (Ocimum sanctum L.) against pathogenic bacteria in the air, namely Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The simplicia of kemangi leaves was previously characterized and then extracted by percolation using 96% ethanol. The extract was formulated into an antiseptic gel preparation and tested for stability by the cycling test method for 6 cycles. Inhibition of antibacterial by agar well diffusion method at concentrations of 1.5%, 3%, and 4.5%. The research data were statistically analyzed by the One Way Anova Test. The results of the stability evaluation at 6 cycles showed no significant changes in organoleptic testing, viscosity, pH, dispersion, while the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus epidermidis was inhibited at a concentration of 4.5% with a diameter of 25.5 mm and 26.6 mm respectively is included in the strong category.

Abstract

The Pugun Tanoh herbs (Picria fel terrae L.), a species of plant from the family Scrophulariceae. The study was to determine the percent mortality and LC50 value of the ethanolic extract of Pugun Tanoh herbs in Artemia Salina L. larvae by using the Brime Shirmp Lethality Test (BSLT). Treatment concentrations include 180.0 ppm; 200.0 ppm; 220.0 ppm; 240.0 ppm; 260.0 ppm; 280.0 ppm; and 300.0 ppm and 0.0 ppm as negative controls with three replications. Each concentration used 10 larvae of Artemia salina L. 48 hours old. Toxicity was identified based on percent larval mortality by probit analysis (LC50). The result is a linear equation, Y = 11.222X+65,427. The LC50 value was reached when the concentration was 188.691 ppm. Toxicity of the ethanolic extract of Pugun Tanoh herbs was tested by BSLT. It showed toxic properties, there was potential as an anticancer because LC50 < 1000.0 ppm.

Abstract

Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) leaves have medicine potential, such as an antibacterial in anti-acne treatment contain flavonoids, tannins and saponins. The study aims to determine whether the ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves 96% can be formulated and determined the effectiveness of concentration preparation in inhibiting the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The preparation of cream preparations used a concentration of 20%, 30% and 40% jackfruit leaf ethanol extract. Then carried out the evaluation test of the preparation including the organoleptic test, homogeneity test, spreadability test, and pH test. Furthermore, the antibacterial effectiveness test was carried out by using the diffusion method. The results of evaluation test for cream preparations which included organoleptic tests with the results of three concentrations meeting the requirements, the homogeneity test and the dispersion test of the preparations, the results meet the specified conditions and the results of the pH test with the three concentrations of preparations that met the specified pH requirements. And it can inhibit the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria with an inhibition zone of 7.5 mm at a concentration of 20%, 11 mm at a concentration of 30%, and 11.7 mm at a concentration of 40%. Antibacterial effectiveness test using positive control had an inhibition zone of 25.9 mm. The conclusion of this study is that the ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves can be formulated into anti-acne cream preparations.
