Abstract

Femtech opens space to fulfill women's right to information on sexual and reproductive health and raises the potential for control over women's bodies. This study aims to explore the potential risks of FemTech related to women's bodies in cyberspace and uncover the exploitation and misuse of women's data. Women as users in an organized manner are seen as commodity objects, which indirectly makes women digital laborers. This study uses analysis of the Feminist Political Economy (FPE) lens from Bezanson & Luxton in three conceptual areas, namely the expansion of production models, the sex/gender system, and the analysis of domestic labor as a contribution to labor reproduction. This article develops an FPE analytical framework for studies of technology-related reproductive health. The researcher summarizes user data collected in Indonesia's top ten FemTech applications by entering the keyword' menstrual calendar' in the iOS App Store and Android Play Store. This research finds that women as Femtech users are shackled in the reality of hegemonic masculinity and lack of reproductive freedom, are in a commodity circle, and are exposed to risks as digital workers. Abstract

Online friendship has become common between generations, especially among Gen Z and Millennials, and some friendships transition from online to offline, which requires disclosing their offline identities. Despite the risks involved, Online Social Networks (OSNs) are essential daily and provide self-expression, social pleasure, and networking opportunities. Privacy is a complex concept with different definitions, and interpersonal communication can be private but can become public depending on the context. Self-disclosure and trust are essential factors in online friendships. This study used netnography to study online consumer-based communities, particularly volleyball fans. We conducted observations, literature reviews, and interviews with informants who had experienced shifting from online friendships to offline ones. We analyzed the data descriptively using the theories of trust and self-disclosure. Participants connect with others who share the same interest in volleyball. They both use pseudonyms to protect their privacy but occasionally post pictures with censorship on their faces due to anxiety over privacy and online crime. They both establish trust with their online friends by analyzing their reputation, performance, mutual friends, interaction, and persona before extending their friendship from online to offline. The study found eight communication patterns that create trust, such as talking about common interests and exchanging personal information, and suggests opportunities for further research on comparing different age and gender groups and exploring communication patterns in other social media platforms.

Abstract

Abstract

Despite significant advancements in women's higher education in Indonesia, where female enrolment now surpasses that of men, major gender disparities persist in the labor market. This paper investigates the enduring paradox of "Excelling on Campus, Lagging in the Workplace," wherein higher educational attainment for women does not translate into equitable outcomes in labor force participation, remuneration, and career advancement. Employing a qualitative methodology through a systematic literature review, this study synthesizes and critically analyzes existing national data, institutional reports, and academic literature. The analysis is framed by the Feminist Critique of Human Capital Theory, arguing that conventional economic models fail because they ignore the entire sphere of social reproduction the unpaid domestic and caregiving labor that is disproportionately shouldered by women. The findings demonstrate that the participation gap, wage disparities, and the "glass ceiling" are not separate issues but are interconnected manifestations of a system that structurally penalizes women for their socially-mandated reproductive roles. The study concludes that achieving substantive gender equality in Indonesia requires a policy shift beyond merely promoting education, necessitating a fundamental re-evaluation of the value of reproductive labor and the implementation of policies that directly address these structural barriers.

Abstract

Indonesian migrant workers currently have a new trend as part-timer content creators in social media, documenting their life and making videos or live videos about their life in a new country. This is common thing between the diaspora to document their lives in a different country, but there is a gap that differentiates between diaspora or white-collar immigrants from Indonesian migrant workers who commonly work as unskilled laborers. As we already know how policies that protect immigrants do not really work because of the high case of immigrant abuse, intimidation, persecution, low welfare, etc. Immigrants seeing the potential of being content creators in social media will give them better welfare and life quality when actually they become new commodities by creating content about their life. Using Pierre Bourdieu theory of modal commodification, we conduct exploratory research to investigate problems about commodification content that is not clearly defined. The first step we do is doing observations of migrant workers content creators and then we do online research and literature research to strengthen our research on a specific case that is Zhiee Leely and Maybe Memeyon Youtube. The results show us that Indonesian migrants worker are unconsciously being commodified in a habitus that leads them to get financial modal by-product daily content on Youtube and it is mean they need to do a double job, longer working hours, more risks, without government social security because only being migrants worker for them did not guarantee them better life better welfare. Keywords: migrant workers, double commodification, welfare, social media, content creator.
